It’s relative in my opinion.
There’s no point in spending a large chunk on wages for players if they don’t suit your style of play. A terrible example but I’m using it anyway is getting the Barcelona squad and telling them to play like Lincoln. Yes you will still do reasonably well but far short of the potential.
Our squad has been assembled around a few player and then Nolan has got players in for his, direct style. Such players won’t command as much a fee as they aren’t dribblers etc.
It’s mentioned in this thread that Mansfield have players who can play the ball on the floor well but it seems the new manager likes to get the ball forward quickly thus not using the players to their ability or worth.

It’s like buying a Land Rover to go to the shops, costs a fair wack, it’s expensive each week, not great to park but it’s a “great” car.

That’s all very well, and sounds about right.

But will the magpies be up for the fight? How many times have we rolled over , boys vs men at times in this local derby?

If you don’t win the battle , compete, the style of play and effectiveness will count for next to nothing. If the lads can’t get up for a local derby as well as 3rd vs 5th then they deserve nothing this season

It's easy to get caught up in completely pointless arguments like this, but i'm not sure that your starting xi is THAT much better than ours. You've definitely got a much, much deeper and better squad (as the total mismatch in the Checkatrade showed when both teams made a raft of changes), but Grant, Hewitt, Tootle and Stead would all start for you I think and you could make a case for one or two more.

Grant for sure, Stead can replace Spencer on the bench. I don’t know Hewitt or Tootle.
I don’t think our starting eleven is ‘THAT’ much better than County so I agree with you on that.

Adam, the ‘long ball’ comment is not fair considering he’s spoke against its effectiveness in a interview. Give him time.

I was critical of evans over it. It doesn't suit anyone from our midfield or forward line, apart from Jimmy spencer, who's as useful as a pot plant.

If this team passes the ball and at tempo - like Luton earlier in the season, like against Newport etc then it suits our game much better and were much more effective.

If he plays the long ball - which looked dreadful in both home games - and we win tomorrow then fair enough, but if we lose playing it, it won't go down well.

Expecting a horrible game of football. County are a direct side, and if they start both Stead and Ameobi it will signal their intent to be as such from the first whistle.

Pearce struggled with Rheady recently when Lincoln constantly bombarded that area with the diagonals, but I'm not sure what to expect as Pearce is always a colossus against Notts, and as we know Rheady is simply awesome at what he does.Pearce hobbled off against Colchester too it seemed...doubts over his fitness maybe? Bennett is back, so I expect it to be him and Pearce at centre half. That's where the main battle lines will be drawn for me, and how those two perform is imperative to what result we may or may not achieve.

We've been a terrible offshoot of Lincoln-esque football recently, and to be fair Swindon fans more than warned us of it. Flitcroft has quashed this recent trend by saying it is not his overall vision as to what he wants us to do, but I am sceptical as he seems to talk a good game....and in our not so distant past, so did David Holdsworth....and thus far (early days) he has reminded me of him!

I was sincerely hoping this would be the game that if Flitcroft isn't chatting shite, we finally start to see some foundations of what we all want... i.e. we start to see us actually playing the way that we all know suits us best, for an entire 90 minutes.....something that has only really happened on around 2 or 3 occasions this season! We've done well mostly on a good 45 minutes per game, but it goes a long way to explain us throwing leads away and being the side with the most draws in the entire EFL.

However, with the weather forecast, it has all the hallmarks of being terrible to produce a good game of football. Given the atmosphere and massive "6 pointer" status attributed to this game, it will be a nervy game of hot potato in my opinion, and has a crap scrappy draw written all over it.

Mansfield will be bang up for this , as they always are, because it’s their seasons Big Day Out.

We won’t, is mystifying but countless times we look like boys against men. Only last season in the dogged home draw under Nolan did we put up a decent fight in an extremely scrappy and competitive game.

With our record we should start favourites, but on paper Stags are better, history shows they always win or draw so I’m going for 2-1 away win.

Sadly

Hoping for 13000 in attendance to soften the blow
I have never thought of notts as a rival local yes rival no not like spierites ,its just a good piss up ,by the way i lived in west bridgford so all this talk of a day out in the big city is really a load of crap ,,mansfield has its problems but ,lets look at arnold ,clifton st anns ,meadows carlton , hey its bloody paradise compared to them

Too many cervezas for the bargain Brit abroad methinks.

I don’t mind the reminders how we never beat you since about 2003 but please don’t compare Mansfield to Nottingham ever.

All big cities have shit hole areas, try New York or even better still Chicago and you will see what I mean. They have more crime, more violence than Mansfield , so I guess that makes them worse? Lol

The fact you quote Arnold and Carlton as Dodgy Nottingham areas really says it all lol.
In Mansfield it’s find the nice part , I can think of two at a stretch

Saying that Mansfield is great for a night out, fantastic shopping and lots of sports and leisure options and don’t forget the museums. It’s a tourists dream

When you bring more fans to Meadow Lane than you get at Field Mill, week in week out, it’s the true definition of ‘Big Day Out’

Comparing Nottingham to New York and Chicago

Anyway, back to the game here's hoping Flitcroft can finally get us playing half decent and maybe get a win. Not overly confident of getting any thing out of the game.

Looks like East Midlands trains are struggling for working/serviceable coaches tomorrow as they will have a high demand on the Mansfield/Nottm line, The Grimsby/Lincoln line and also The Nottm/Sheffield line as Forest are in the steel city.

I’m just thankful the vast majority of people don’t care about certain towns, locations etc.

MTFC and NCFC are the only important aspects.

Certainly Buoyed by the £100k we received from Peterborough for evans.

If that happened 16 times, hardy would cover his losses for a year, bless him.

It does make you chuckle doesn't it?

I guess if someone starts talking about things like that they've greater insecurities about football. Maybe a big fall from grace, or a big debt?

No hint of irony in that Adam? There's no way your budget is being paid for by the entrance fee, pies and peas

The point stands. I could of used Manchester instead (bigger city, Dodgy areas, more crime), but no need as Adam basically mentions in every other thread. He lives in Manchester you know not Mansfield, Manchester lol

Still find it amusing that Costa Del Stag quoted Arnold and Carlton as the big cities rough areas lol. I’d suggest a little too much sun for the old boy.

Totally agree with Conker it’s about NCFC and MTFC today on the BDO.

£100k sounds a great deal for Evans jumping ship at about the worst possible time and potentially derailing guaranteed promotion.

Good old fatty fat boy, maintaining his reputation in the footballing world during his brief stint in north Nottinghamshire

Hard pitch
Direct approach
Great atmosphere
Big crowd
Stead and Rose hitting the deck repeatedly for next to no reason
Pearce having a stormer as usual
Smoke bombs / flares
No Evans/Raynor sideshow thankfully
Jokes about inbreds and extra fingers and toes
Yeeeeelllllloooooooowwwwwww on repeat
Comeeeee on you pieeeessss on repeat
And a likely away win

Sounds about right for this game

Haha. It was 9 minutes as they time wasted, fell about like pansies and tried to cheat.

and it bit them on the Arse. You'll never beat the Mansfield

Obviously gutted to concede a last minute equaliser to a handball penalty but Stags never looked like scoring all game. I understand what the stags fans on here are on about, long ball does not suit them at all. Although weather didn’t allow much else

Flitcroft still looking for first win and has managed to halt half a seasons momentum under Evans in just 3 games. Impressive stuff.

Huge missed opportunity for the Stylish Magpies but not getting that 2nd goal when we had great attacking positions and some opportunities to kill the game.

Play offs for both sides ?

No idea if it was a penalty or not, was a blizzard in the way, but we were comfortably the better team there so it’s absolutely gutting either way.

I had a good view, ball definitely hit hand/arm in the area. Hate penalties for handballs in general but especially when it’s not even a threatening situation or a shot at goal.

Noble was my MOTM, Hawkridge didn’t look at the races at all, didn’t seem to have his footing or realise its a derby game. Poor performance throughout
Stead played well as did Duffy. Dicko is very average imo and was once again, Hewitt average. Grant worked hard.

For Mansfield, thought Hemmings was very tidy, Rose quiet, McDonald was very disappointing always rated him. Anderson was solid.

No2, don’t know the lad’s name had a shocker. And at times Stags looked all over the shop at the back.

Direct into the channels , turning the centre halves was always the way to go. Conditions didn’t suit anything else and definitely suited notts more.

Wasted opportunity for Notts to put pressure on others at top but against the former Stags manager we wouldn’t of been leading until the 99th min of that I’m certain.

I’m absolutely taken by surprise by that Jacob.

The first half was a dire affair with both lacking quality, the only difference was the goal which we completely gifted.

The second half we were definitely the better team, County rarely threatened although we were pretty ineffective despite having the majority of the attacking play.

A draw was a fair result in my opinion, we played poorly AGAIN but County like Lincoln are very one dimensional. To be fair so are we recently.

I was in line with the penalty and it looked nailed on to me btw.

Got to agree. No side deserved a win, we dominated the 2nd half entirely but seem to strangely have lost our creativity and confidence.

The penalty was nailed on, what he was playing at I'll never understand, daft as fuck

Notts don’t play well by controlling the ball or dominating the game - we control games as we did in that second half, could’ve been there for hours and you wouldn’t have scored without something like that from Alessandra.

Nobody dominated anything!!! Didn’t think Mansfield looked like scoring, Rose’s Cutler effort wide and a save for the cameras from Collin late on was the grand total.

Shola has two great chances first half
And we wasted 2/3 great situations second half.

I think Notts just played to the conditions far better. Middle of first half we lost our way but never looked in huge danger
