Carrick was very underrated for United's dominant spell, a player that always went unnoticed. I never thought he'd make the grade when he signed from Spurs to be honest.

I always liked Mark Viduka too, a very classy player that just seemed to have the tag of a mid-table striker. I still remember him destroying Arsenal.

He took a while to get going at United and the fans didn't warm to him for a long time. He's good, nothing special. I wouldn't say he's rated too high or too low now, but for a period he was unfairly maligned.

Underrated: Luka Modric (mainly in his Spurs days), Clarence Seedorf, Aaron Lennon

Seedorf certainly isn't underrated and Modric was constantly linked with moves to big clubs while at Spurs.

It's a bit of a popular view these days but I still think Milner is vastly underrated and has been throughout his career.

Overrated? I don't see the fuss around Cavani, but then again I don't watch a lot of any European football.

I don't think I've seen an article or match report mention Milner without claiming he's underrated.

Meaning he's now actually vastly overrated.

Can't agree with that, Rio was one of the best in Europe. Better than Vidic imo, but that was probably the best partnership in Europe during the late 00s.

Fully agree with this. I'm similar with Pirlo (come at me).

I remember him always being good, until he got older and everyone started wanking over him and it wasn't only coz of his amazing beard.

Dunno if he genuinely got better (or adapted) with age, if I just missed how good he'd always been, or if he timed his career perfectly to intersect with when it became hipster to chinstroke about people who run about half a mile every game.

Piss off. His work rate was invaluable for that Arsenal team. And no I don't rate him just because he's a swede, see Zlatan for example whom I've never rated.

I don't think Seedorf was rated highly enough. Doesn't play with all the flair and won't be scoring a load of goals or many spectacular so often overlooked over others he played with.

Seedorf is regarded well enough, imo. That diamond with Pirlo, Seedorf, Gattuso, Kaka is possibly the most balanced midfield I can think of. It had everything.

Hagreaves has won titles and European cups in two different countries and was England PotY, he more than proved his worth. He was prevented from going even further and should be in the conversation but he's remebered more as a crock.

Hargreaves played 100+ games for Bayern Munich as well, and those will be disregarded by many who follow football in England.

I wasn't really a fan of Seedorf growing up until I saw him play as a trequartista against Utd one time and he was brilliant.

Giovanni Elber doesn't get the recognition he deserves outside of Munich I reckon, he was a great player.
