Just very decent at set pieces and have a solid defence. Not a team id want to watch but cant argue with your league position
Football will always have teams like that, if it works for em can't blame em, I hated our stint under Pulis cos of that but Stoke had success with it.

It's a poor quality league really.
The two that have stood out to me have already gained promotion and the rest are poor to meh.
For ourselves and Mansfield to be up here after awful starts just shows it doesnt take much to turn things around. Same for Bolton last season.
Every year we're told it's a poor quality league. Every. Single. Fucking. Season.

As someone who's watched this league consistently for 10 years, it's about the same standard it's always been. Give or take very minor differences.

We're all essentially pretty poor teams hence why we're in this league. Those that get promoted usually have 2 or 3 players that could play the level above and the rest supplemented with grafters. Or one or two strikers that have a real purple patch. A tightish defence helps. We had Pope, Myrie Williams and Vincent in 2013 who were playing a level above that season...they haven't played to that level before or since. The rest of the team was fairly average but for a cameo by Lee Hughes.

It's as you go up the leagues that it gets harder. In league 1 you probably need 5 or 6 stand out players and 8 or 9 in the championship. Premier league all 11 need to be top class.

I'll never buy the argument that a league is of a poor standard purely because it is competitive, surely it makes for a better spectacle? That's why the PL is usually shite, two sides miles away from the rest and a relegation battle that's finished with a few weeks to go. You used to hear it all the time in the NL because there weren't one or two teams running away from it. Then you'd have "*insert season and club name* would be twenty points clear in this league". Pointless comparison.

The league isn't poor. Its better than the year BRFC was promoted I'd argue. Better football on the floor, anyway. Weird a team that was here for such a short time can speculate on their first year back as well.

Ive not seen many teams play it on the floor this season. Thats not really all I look for anyway, the quality of individual players I thinking more of, and I couldnt name you many players that I think would succeed in L1.
Shouldn't you be called Devon_Lass as you seem to argue against absolutely everything.

To be fair we don’t hoof it. We just lack creativity from open play, many games we’ve passed it around at the back and not had any penetration through the middle. We score so many through set pieces because we don’t really score through open play.

You don't know much about surviving in L1 anyway so I don't really care what you think. The table shows you're talking shite. Even the PPG folk are doing okay never mind last year's teams all above relegation. Mk, Plymouth et all doing just fine. More than fine.

Play to your strengths I say. We score a lot from open play but hardly anything from set pieces. Open play goals are probably more attractive but they're not worth any more than any other goal.

It’s League Two so of course is relatively poor, always is though.

You get some moments of brilliance and some teams like to knock it about but a lot is physical, shithousing and that’s purely the level we are all at.

As mentioned above the top sides have a bit of luck, depth and a handful of players able to play comfortably in league one, hence this season we have been challenging with the likes of Wilson, Proctor, Hall and Conlon but even then it’s mixed with grafters like Garrity and Charlsley.

The more of those type of L1 capable players you have the better you’ll likely do, hence the strugglers just don’t have that.

You will see teams like Northampton and Sutton though who play a certain way effectively if not easy on the eye and you can get away without the creative individual quality at this level if your well organised and have the defensive quality and set pieces which you maybe won’t in League One.

From the games I’ve seen this season there are only 2 teams in this division right now who’d survive in L1 and that’s FGR & Exeter.

Of course anyone who’d go up would sign players and strengthen, but based on their current squads. The standard of the players in L1 is much much higher.

But what would I know? We’ve only been in L1 for what 6/7 years straight and I’ve seen nearly every game this season in L2.

Surviving in the Third div -- Is exactly what we do know . We've been in it the most whil'st a football league club.

No don’t you get it? We were relegated last year so that’s clear proof that we don’t understand what it takes to survive in L1. Just think about that logic for a second, it must mean anyone relegated thinks their team was good enough.

But hey, what would a Rovers fan know about survival in L1 compared to DevonLad? Didn’t you know Exeter have been in L1 for 3 years in the last 20 years, you just can’t beat that experience of L1 survival knowledge

I'm talking historical not just last season. We went down for a reason. The team assembled by that joker Garner was crap and replacing him with another joker in Tisdale. We've spent enough seasons in Division 3 to be able to work out how to survive.

Don’t worry I’m with you, just trying to explain someone else’s mindset.

Clough is a L1 bonus should we go up.

Cannot believe with two games to go and 75 points on the board we could still end up outside the play-offs!

Guess all eyes on what happens in the two games on Monday now. Would have been a very good day if Rovers hadn’t scored a winner but even so it’s been alright. All in our hands again, just win both games and we’ll be up.

Realistically I think the autos are a long shot for us. We need a striker or two to get into the playoffs. We also are playing sides above us away rather than at home.
Big game at Swindon next week to see where we are Realistically

Every club, FGR apart, has/will have a bad spell. Tranmere looked well set a week or so ago, now they’ve lost 2 in a row. We’re all in the basement for a reason - we’re inconsistent and, generally, bang average.

You’ll blow it - you always do. Perennial bridesmaids.

I'll go for

FGR
Mansfield
Port Vale
===========
Northampton
Bristol Rovers
Tranmere
Newport
===========

Exeter repeat last season and fail to beat us at home - costing them a play-off place.
Some rather amusing posts on here earlier on

Rovers definitely favourites now in my book. An absolute gimme 3 points next week and one of us or Mansfield have to win both our games. That 95th minute winner is a sickener as a draw against Exeter last game might have been enough.

If anyone is favourite it’s Northampton. They have the GD over Rovers and I think they’ll likely win at Barrow.
