Well, you can argue the point forever about who is big and who is bigger etc.
If you put away the measuring stick (or whatever you use)
There have been 50'000 fans watching whats been well over a decade of turgid crap for the most part in Sheffield.
Wednesday averaged over 20'000 in the division 3 years (as I still call it) playing crap, dunno Uniteds, but it will be something similar.
Its not all about the odd "one" season down there, its years of mainly hopelessness, it takes some doing to keep the faith, staying constant and waiting for it to turn.
I remember going to Villa park years ago in the 70's..We lost, I can't remember the score, but they had Chico hamilton, Lochhead and Rioch in the side, there were over 20'000 there, Villa fans stayed constant during that period...Takes some doing.
So we have our own parochial spat on Sunday, and you will have to excuse us for getting excited about it, sometimes its all youve got

Sorry mate, If it came across as go at you, I didn't mean it in that way...
Villa has always been my favourite away ground..reeks of football.
I was mainly saying the arguments about who is bigger than who is pointless, we will never agree

It is pointless, but I was just replying to sheffsteel who was giving his view of both clubs throughout the decades. For the record it was 1973 and we won 2.1 with Chico Hamilton and lochead scoring for us, Infront of 20710. Anyway hope it's a good game for both sets of fans.

Lol...and when you play Brum, I hope you enjoy it just as much.....
I'll settle for winning 1-0 in off an offside stray dog mate...Its beyond football for me

I'm not a city lad, and in all honestly don't feel the hatred for blues like some of our fanbase. Wolves was always the team I disliked growing up because the two main teams in my town are wolves and villa. Had a look at tickets not long ago for Sunday's game, but I've got no chance. I fancy United to win if I'm honest.

Sheff United were a big club pre war, especially pre 1st world war ha ha but since the 2nd world war we've done very little and underperformed badly. Never been in a major final and never been in Europe. We've had loads of cup semi final appearances and play-off final appearances though.

Wednesday have underperformed too but at least they challenged for honours in the early 60's and early 90's.

My point was unlike Birmingham and especially Nottingham, no Sheffield club has been able to dominate for too long. There's always been cycles where 1 Sheffield club is clearly better than the other and in that period managed to attract most of the local youngsters. This explains why the support isn't that different, Wednesday have historically shaded the support by 10% however there's always been an urban legend that Wednesday have a lot of casual supporters that don't go to matches, so they've had a reputation for having massive potential.

No problem mate...Theres a history of underdogs winning the Sheffield Derby...The Blades are clinging onto the underdog card, but I claim it cos we are are below them in the league.
Ive no hatred for United, got plenty of folk who are mates on the dark side lol...
BUT...Theres no way i'm going down the track of..."Hope its a good game and may the best team...whatever..."
and I should imagine any Blade worth worth their salt will be exactly the same

I think both will do well this season, but you've got to fancy Wednesday overall to make the play offs.

Liam Palmer was on the bench for the 2-2 not to mention Bullen captaining us in a couple.

Palmer will be nothing more than a sub again Sunday that's kind of the point I am making, Bullen I will kind of give you as he could have some influence in the team talk. From a blades point of view their 2 biggest dressing room influences in wilder and sharp are both lifelong blades, we don't have that comparison

I honestly think the play offs are going to be harder to make this year.
Although I like Carlos, I honestly believe he can be too cautious, Once we take the lead, we stop, we set up defensively and try to hang on to what we have...Huddersfield was a prime example last year, and Cardiff was another example last week.
Do that against the Blades in a Sheffield derby, you are asking for trouble, cos they won't stop.
I honestly don't want to go through another play off....Wembley the other yearagainst Hull was a massive disappointnment, Huddersfield deserved to beat us last year, another massive disappointment.
Its gonna have to be automatic this season..or I'm gonna sulk

Who gives a fuck if their two biggest influences are a foul mouthed pikey (Wilder) and a fat nobody (Sharp), football is won on grass not a dressing room. They've had a squad full of Berties and been pummeled by us before with no Sheffielders in the team, stop worrying.

I know, but I'm not a member and I have no history of purchasing tickets. You've had to of been a member before August 1st to qualify for tickets for this game.

To be fair If I was you £42 to watch a game you have no interest sat under our fans, fuck that.

It is shocking tbf, and I very much doubt I'd of paid that for a club I don't support. Just a game I've always wanted to attend, so I looked into it. Prob be better off attending bramall lane as it will be cheaper.

Will be £32 at ours for you, you will need previous purchase history though. Can only buy 1 ticket per customer number for any of our matches now home or away.

As a season ticket holder I cannot buy another ticket for any match bramall lane

Why is that? Seems a bit OTT. I can understand it for the Sheffield derby, but not your run of the mill games.

Every single game mate. Throwing banning orders out for fun now too the club because of a bit of misbehaviour at away games and 2 Norwich fans got hammered on Saturday so two poor c*** who didn't actually do the damage have got life bans for getting nicked.

I've heard about the trouble this season, and was a bit surprised about the Norwich game. That's the way it is now mate, and imo the police take it beyond the law in what they do. Football fans are still regarded as scum, but it's not surprising really.

Oh dear
What about the 2 innocent poor blokes who ended up unconscious and hospitalised?

No innocent blokes end up unconscious and hopsitalised at football anymore and were doing nothing wrong.

Not sure if you're on about Norwich or Blades fans but either way I'm sure they were asking for trouble, not that it excuses the state they ended up in.

Best me to it, Jordan wins the tit of the month award.
He's definetly been watching to much Green Street if he is naive enough to believe every time there is trouble, it's only "the firms" and they have a code of honour that is never broken. Or innocent people could never be in the midst of 2 sets of hooligans or get hit by flying objects or flares.
I agree most of the time the injured parties are often involved in the violence, but trying to walk out of an away end and getting attacked isn't asking for or provoking trouble.

You have absolutely no fucking idea what happened outside the away end and no idea what the 2 Norwich fans were doing, you just carry on believing everything you read on the news and the papers.

So you think these Norwich fans were just minding their own business walking out of the away end talking amongst themselves and ended up unconscious in hospital? How thick are you?

There have been very rare instances where innocent people have been jumped as per the example Tom gave, but the reason it made national news and is such a well known incident is because nowadays it's a complete rarity.
