I'm coming to the view that we, Morecambe, Crawley and Stanley are appearing quite fucked this season. What with the likes of Notts and Wrexham returning to the league, it seems almost like a Revenge of the Brotherhood and the potential return of the pre-neoliberal (i.e pre-1986) era, I mean, only almost, given half the National League are in one form or another ex-league teams, but near enough to give a supporter of "upstart" teams "punching above our weight" (Wycombe apart, I suppose) a bit of worry....

I dunno, I mean we actually showed a bit of spirit to come back and draw with Melksham the other night. We'd probably have lost that game last season...

There will probably be a lot of excited talk of the revenge of the brotherhood in the NL, only for Chesterfield to choke at the last and allow someone like Boreham Wood up instead.

Oh yeah Stevenage and Salford.can go too. I guess Wycombe are OK now? In the same boat as other Johnny come lateleys like Oxford and Cambridge.
So when are Wrexham back to their rightful place in the National league then? I believe you were the longest serving team there...maybe ever.

You're part of the promoted pot now. No longer the elected elite. You can rub shoulders with the rest of us tinpotters now. We'll allow it.

I'm sure some other teams have been non-league for longer than 15 years tbh.

Our rightful place is the Welsh Leagues. That's what everyone says isn't it?

We were there longer than them...19 consecutive years I think.... (other teams off the top of my head I'd guess Alty, maybe Kettering, must have had longer non-consecutive spells if you count the Gola league/Alliance league years)

Happy to pretend Wrexham aren't tinpot until they prove otherwise now though.....

Kettering were founder members of the Conference and remained there uninterrupted until 2001 (and they’ve been back a couple of times since).

If you’ve been non league most of your history you’re always non league, it’s how it works.

Leave chesterfield though, they can carry on playing the dog & partridge every other weekend, though the leagues that shit this season it’d be almost impossible for them not to come up.

1864-1921= 57 Non league
1921-2008= 87 League
2008-2023= 15 Non league

Phew just made it.

Yes if they don't go up this year it'll be a huge failure, league looks there for the taking. Also hilarious.

I wouldn't be surprised if they lost out to someone like Barnet though. I don't think Cook has it anymore.

Horrible club Kettering and Rockingham Road was a complete dump.

You should see their new gaff...amazed it passes ground grading. Rocky Road is now, unsurprisingly, a housing estate.

Probably be alright in their new league to be honest. Chips and curry sauce are good there, but aside from that 2 of the most boring games of football I've ever witnessed were last season at Kettering. Absolutely dreadful.

Stop using facts to stop a little wind up. :)

Going by adamstag's criteria. First mention of us is in 1896 (letter asking the fa if we could swap shirt colour) so we would need to stay in the efl until 2125 before we are considered a league club. Personally think that's a tad too long.

I remember going there in about the 68/69 season for a cup replay. They had this chap dressed up as a friar leading there fans singing.

They had a budget of £9m last season, albeit some of that to buy back their ground from the Uni. The taxpayers of Wales are also going to chip in with £18m for a new stand for them.

As we haven't released our finances for last season how do you know that?

Also your stadium is 'owned by the taxpayer' and in effect they've subsidised your club every year you've been there so I wouldn't claim any moral high ground if I were you.

Don’t know where they are now but I remember when they played at Nene Park when Ladak was chairman. Literally whitewashed over the sign that said Rushden & Diamonds FC and wrote Kettering Town FC on top. Was never going to work for them there.

We are not subsidised by the local authority.

We would like a new stand , but someone will have to win the lottery first.
