By all means, criticise Karius for his form, but they don't get to tell someone to shut their mouth in response. I'm really pleased to see people pushing back at this, there are too many parasites flinging excrement wherever and however they please without consequence.

it is kind of true though, pundits make a point to criticise specific players (typically foreign and unknown) and can criticise anything up to and including their professionalism and don't expect any kind of response - only to be furious and indignant when they do get one.

It's bizarre, especially when it comes from clearly awful players like Phil Neville and Robbie Savage.

Pundits in general talk absolute nonsense and the more frequently they are called out the better. More fool anyone who watches any pre or post match guff these days.

The Premier League is a soap opera, I think that's fair comment. The media build up characters, plot lines and narratives and feed it to the hooked punters.

Perhaps that makes the Nevilles the Mitchell brothers?!

But whatever the case, for Klopp and Guardiola to react the way they have recently to a bit of stick from the media is a bit strange. Both have worked at big clubs under large media scrutiny before (especially Pep) - they know how the game works.

Christ imagine being bullied by the Nevilles

They probably still share a bed and dress each other up in their pyjamas and only eat cereal with the milk made from the other brother.

Not sure if its true but I was told Lee Sharpe's autobiography had a part describing the squad celebrating a league victory in a club. Sharpe lost some sort of bet and had to pay for a round so had to order "21 pints of lager, a bottle of champagne for Eric and 2 cokes for Gary and Phil".

Someone please confirm its true.

The Nevilles and Carragher are like playground bullies with Klopp playing the part of headmaster and Karius as the grass.

Mignolet is the opportunistic child that gets the trier's band after it had to be vacated by Karius for throwing a pencil across the classroom.

Whatever your thoughts you can't call him an awful player. You don't play 500 times in the premier league and 59 times for England if you are awful.

That said, he is a crap pundit.

No professional player is awful in the true definition of the word. Relatively speaking though Phil Neville was awful.

I absolutely am calling him awful.

And I'm not stopping there, Barkley has 22 caps for England and well over 100 appearances in the Premier League - he is completely awful as well.

But in more general, players with over 50 caps with England who are either poor or awful (modern era) - Gary Cahill, Glen Johnson, Joe Hart, Emile Heskey.

Milner and Barry get off with being decent enough plodders.

Would say Phil Neville by far and away the worst, followed by Glen Johnson and Emile Heskey.

Would you say Scott Brown is awful? What about Christophe Berra? James Morrison? Steven Fletcher?

All of them except Morrison.

Although Steven Fletcher was a good player at one point, but seems a drastically failing individual off the pitch and seems to have lost what talent he had. Fairly standard process for many Scottish footballers.

Awful compared to who? Do you have to be a top player? A top, top player? A top, top, top, top, top player? Phil Neville was one of the better Premier League players of his era. He's pretty qualified to speak about football at this level, especially given his experience. A far better player than Morrison ever was too by the way.

Savage, well...

In the sense that, were you to calculate the total Premier League player from say, 2000-now would he be in the top half? Er, probably. Is in he in the top 100? Not even close.

Would actually consider Morrison a very underrated player, if you consider him no where near then fair enough.

As for qualified to speak about football, is Gazza qualified? Andy Goram? Being a good player does not qualify you to speak about anything. Quite a few of the footballers I've met might understand football on a basic level but simply lack the cognitive skills to articulate it.

I've said it before on this forum but one of my favourite ever pieces of punditry was Gareth Southgate savaging the defensive capabilities of none other than Fabio Cannavaro during one of the later games in his career. Southgate, journeyman centre back at a succession of mediocre clubs, Cannavaro, Ballon D'Or winner, Juventus and Real Madrid veteran, and one of the greatest defenders of all time. Cannavaro absolutely did have poor games, but Southgate telling him what he should be doing

Opposing the pedestrianisation of Norwich city centre!!!!
It doesn't matter to me how good or bad Phil Neville was as a player, he's a dogshit pundit who talks bollocks. Conversely, I think his brother is pretty good..

Yes, I guess the fact that Gary Neville is regarded as one of the bestest pundits eva shows that maybe this whole punditry thing isn't for me.

The only people I can remember providing any kind of meaningful insight whatsoever were Hamann, Nevein and, somewhat bizarrely on his brief appearance, Adebayor.

I assume you meant to type Nevin, the Scottish (yeah, he is Scottish) ex-footballer from Scotland.

You have very high standards for what constitutes a good (or in this case, not awful) player.

As for qualified to speak about football, is Gazza qualified? Andy Goram? Being a good player does not qualify you to speak about anything. Quite a few of the footballers I've met might understand football on a basic level but simply lack the cognitive skills to articulate it.

You were the one that brought Neville's ability into it. I don't think he's a very good pundit either and I would prefer that the vast majority of pundits weren't ex-professionals, but instead people that have dedicated their lives to analysing football. I took umbrage with you mocking Neville's ability (when he had a career that most professional footballers dream about) and that it's somehow bizarre that he can comment on football because he was crap.
