Philippe Coutinho is ready to hold clear-the-air talks with Liverpool as he looks to return to the fold with Jurgen Klopp's side.

The Brazilian international emailed a transfer request to the club earlier this month, a request rejected by Liverpool, after interest from Barcelona turned his head.

Barca have had a number of bids rejected for the playmaker and have been surprised by the Anfield club's resolve, they have ended their interest in order to analyse other options and sounded out Christian Eriksen's interest in a move as well as talking to the representatives of Nice midfielder Jean-Michel Seri - with whom they have outline personal terms agreed.

Which all leaves Coutinho in an awkward position on Merseyside, where he has asked to leave the club but looks certain to still be a Liverpool player on September 1st.

Well played Liverpool, it's good to see Barca shuttle off with their tails between their legs.

Barca this window after missing out on Coutinho and Dembele and selling Neymar.

At £115m I still think we should have sold but at least it showed the owners resolve and perhaps indicates they're planning on sticking around. We will see if it results in a decent season from him.

I wonder if this'll have an element of the Ighalo about it.

It'll be a bit awkward to begin with no doubt when he comes back, but he'll get going soon enough and have a good season I reckon.

Coutinho would have to have a season similar to Ronaldo or Bale in their final season for us to not feel like twats for turning that figure down this time next year.

He recently signed a new contract, didn't he? In which case, assuming his career trajectory keeps up and he avoids major injuries, won't his value be even higher next time Barca or others come calling? On top of that, you'll have had another season out of your star player in a World Cup year where he is not going to down tools. His involvement could mean the difference between top four and finishing outside of it, with all the financial gains that are involved in Champions League qualification. Finally, you've told Barca where to stick it.

I agree that hes potentially difference between us qualifying for the CL and not.

But Coutinho doesn't belong in the same sentence as the likes of Ronaldo and Bale, who are top tier. As good as he is, and he can be fantastic, he doesn't do it regularly enough. Market forces aside, to justify a higher price than what we turned down, he would need to get rid of his ability to go missing for three games at a time. I also believe he needs another 5 goals and to double the number of assists. There is potential for him to do this. Hes improved every year and our attack, injuries permitting, is better than last year following the additions of Salah, Solanke and a Mane who doesn't have AFCON responsibilities. I just don't think he justifies 120m right now. Especially when you have the likes of Draxler available at less than half the price (reportedly).

Finally, I'm as delighted as anyone that both us and Dortmund have effectively told Barca to fuck off. Only Madrid sit on top of the mountain now.

Pfft, Coutinho has more to his game than one-trick overhyped pony Bale that's for sure. All this fannying about though has set him back both on his sharpness to play with the side, and with the fans, who'll be a bit cold to him for a bit. However once he gets through that, he'll excel as he is starting to peak imo.

W've turned down 30mill for Drinkwater from Chelsea. Told them we want at least 40.
Given that we'd presumably go straight in for Adrien Silva who we tried to sign last summer but baulked at paying 40mill for, we'd want a fee where we can just make a straight move for the Sporting player.

Surprised William Carvalho is only going for £35m to West Ham according to reports. I think he'll be a great signing for them if it happens.

Come back when Coutinho has even come close to winning a PL player of the season award, let alone two. Or comes anywhere close to Bale's output in terms of goals and assists. He's a one trick pony like Cristiano Ronaldo is a one trick pony - strong, fast, skillful, great finisher, good in the air, great at crossing, good at set pieces, tracks back well, great in the big games.

What's the increments this time, 60 mill upfront followed by 10 mill over five seasons and 30 mill in incentives? Liverpool aren't interested and Coutinho has already trying to backtrack on things by saying Barca told him and his family to do what they done.

Meh you obviously have fallen for the spiel and are in with the rest of the sheep just like the press with your beloved Beckham who was another overrated balloon. That's ok though, if you think a guy who can run a bit is better than a true trickster with all the attributes like Coutinho. ;)

And Liverpool are looking mental.
Though fair play, it's only money.

A bit better this time but it won't be accepted so they shouldn't bother anyway. Barca looking very desperate this window.
I think they'll look a bit silly if they reject that now. He obviously desperately wants to go so they're only prolonging the inevitable by rejecting it. I didn't expect him to be the type to kick up such a fuss and disrespect the club by refusing to play. And yes Liverpool don't need the money but that sort of money can still make a huge difference and it's way above Coutinho's value, even in this inflated market. And with Mane and Salah it's unlikely Coutinho would be as important this season anyway.

Why because they are holding out on keeping their best player and can't spend the money they've got anyway?

It'd look sillier if they let him go after being vehement on him staying. It doesn't matter if he wants to go either, he signed a 5 year deal in January and Liverpool have him tied down for most of that contract. He has resigned himself to the fact it won't be happening this year so is reintroducing himself back into the fold. Also Mane and Salah are the main wingers now with Firmino/Sturridge/Solanke/Origi in the middle, with Coutinho running things deeper in an area he's needed in if you've seen just how much he and Lallana have been missed there, since the midfield in its present guise is too workmanlike.

Of course they can spend the money they have, me n Bilo went over this. You wont get Keita cos he plays for an uber rich club. Outside of the Premier League and a few select clubs with billionaire backers, nobody is going to refuse big offers for their players. There are more Salah deals out there.

That seems to be the problem, Klopp is being ridiculously stubborn in terms of identifying alternative targets to his main preferences (Keita and VVD). That's how it seems from the outside, anyway.
