Oh how I wish I was around during the 80s Thrash Metal scene!

Yep, I know what you mean because I wish I was around to witness the birth of punk, or at least, to see the second wave of Punk - you know, the likes of Discharge, Crass, Conflict and so on. But then again, it's easier to look back and say so until you start to regard some things that we have now, like the internet for ex. Prior to the widespread use of IT, I remember buying loads of records only to go back home and tell myself wtf is this shit I have just purchased. The ones who were teens or young men during the late 70's/early 80's had it even worse, as the only thing they had was John Peel and a couple of other dj's spinning non mainstream stuff. And even then, one would think hey this is good, only to discover later that the 2 or 3 songs he heard on the radio were the only decent tracks on the album.

Another thing was the cost of the records and cd's back then, as they slightly on the expensive side. Sure, one can always ask the store assistant to let him listen to a cd but I have never reckoned this as a good idea. So let this sink in and you'll realise how much better it is living in the present day, with any artist's back catalogue a mere click away

I kinda miss the effort though. Picking up bargains in second hand record shops, fanzines, hearing about stuff from friends rather than online. Easier now but it doesn't have as much charm and excitement imho.

Very true spotify is like a life saver, although i'm the kinda guy that loves seeing live music, luckily i'm only a short train journey from London which has many bands on every night, so I don't miss out on that part. But to be around when the likes of early Metallica, Slayer, Exodus, Testament, Kreator, Death Angel, Overkill, Pantera, Sodom and Annihilator were in their prime would be a dream come true. All I hear is how sick the live shows were back in those days!

Now I don't know whether the store staff intentionally ordered these records or not, but I think that most of the time it's a mistake on their part. I rememeber once when I was holidaying in Sicily and walked in this classical music record store, and lo and behold, amongst all the Chopins and Mozarts were 3 Punk LPs on the Crass label All at something like 99p each too!

Then there are the bargains to be had when, sadly, a small family run record shop has decided to pursue another business, and this happened all over the world during the 90's, but that can never be a good thing in my book.

No, that's never good to see. You should see some of the ridiculous bargains I've had from car boot sales/ jumble sales/ markets. Punk , ska and Oi albums and singles for a pittance. I almost feel bad though not bad enough to take advantage
