Do you ever go Briar Rose? I went in there last time for Brum away but apparently they don't let football fans in anymore.
Used that a lot when drinking in the centre, but you're correct, they don't allow footy fans in now. An incident occurred in there the one day after we played Chelsea at home. It goes against everything blues fans say about villa, but I was there and witnessed it with my own eyes, and ears.

Yeah, on Bennett's Hill. I am normally around the Chinese Quarter on matchdays... Old Fox, Dragon Inn, etc.

They let us in this season and there were a mix of fans, no trouble but I've read since they've stopped allowing football fans in. Their loss.

Yeah, it used to be pretty neutral. Not a pub to avoid. I think it had something to do with Derby fans playing up in there, but I could be wrong.

I used to drink in the Aston Hotel (home pub) but went in with a couple of Villa mates so never had any bother.

Forward to 3:55. Being a Cockney, you would have got the train in from Euston before boarding another train to Aston/Witton. It was full of Blues at New Street

Yes, yes, I've already seen it. Always great viewing.

It confirms what I'd said, so thanks. The few hundred that don't board the coaches drink in the City of Digbeth (Bull Ring Tavern, Hennesy's - amusingly both next to a police station) and wait to be picked up by WM's finest, funnelled onto a separate train to Witton and greeted by steel barriers at the other end. Note that in your response to JJH you've referenced the Witton train services but not those to Aston - 06, 17 and 36 past the hour. Very telling.

But glad to see you're still supporting vicariously through Davo's videos.

So what you are saying then is that Villa kept their heads down when Blues were around and remained quiet whilst KRO echoed around New Street. No comment on Blues drinking outside All Bar One and along Broad Street, doesn’t fit with your narrative that their were no Blues in the City centre. Only took one video to prove you were talking bollocks.

Why would a mob of Villa be at New Street though, surely they'd be waiting in Aston or Witton?

Or was your point that they come from other areas which is why they would be there?

Wasn’t talking about mobs. In theory, you would expect Villa to have had more presence in the City centre and New Street being the home side but didn’t hear them. A lot of ‘em would have had to change at New Street coming in from Staffordshire, East Midlands, etc.

I was in the City Centre all day Sunday, arriving around 9am in the vain hope of spare tickets floating about, the biggest mob on show by some some considerable distance was the WMP, virtually every pub had at least a car and a wagon stationed outside, i dread to think what the police operation cost but was absolutely staggered at the sheer numbers involved, actually a good day up there despite the result, I’m not a big fan of the City Centre normally but Blues fans stayed in pretty good spirits and gallows humour lead to some decent bantz.

I’ll definitely plan for the same again when we next meet, whenever that may be.

Villa strongholds are North Brum, including Sutton Coldfield. Blues main areas are south of the city centre including Solihull. We also have a large fanbase that come in from Staffordshire, especially the south of the county. Why would fans from these strongholds come through New Street? We don't need to touch New Street unless you want to drink in the centre. When we ain't playing blues, you get a few drinking in the centre, but our fans mainly drink in and around the ground, or other parts of North Brum. It's the same when we play blues, so it's hardly us running scared. Most trains coming in from Staffordshire don't have to touch New Street.

There was a time when villa couldn't drink in the centre, going back to the mid to late 80s. Villa fans admit this, but things changed by the 90s.
