It’s like with Notts County, Langstaff scored a load of goals against the poorer teams so far but they basically play with one man less against the better sides because he’s completely ineffective against a good defence this season so far, got the physical attributes of a 12 year old girl, but is a brilliant poacher in the box undoubtedly.

I think if they sold him and reinvested that money in the squad they will be much better for it.

On this logic, I am expecting a late push for the title with Jatta leading the line.

The logic includes investing in a better midfield and defence firstly.

Ironically I think the position I see most people complaining about with Notts is the goalkeeper, so we just need an entire new 11.

Honestly, it's a miracle if we stay up.

That one was obvious in the summer, you basically signed GKs that are just back up standard.

Don't know why League Two fans get so shirty about people comparing it to the NL.

Every division higher is a better standard but I reckon National League to League Two is the smallest gap in the top 6 tiers of English football. The largest amounts of back to back promotions must surely be NL-L2-L1.

That without doubt was the biggest miss-step by the club. Personally I wouldn't have offered Slocombe a new deal, and if we did only if he was legit No.2 and happy with it , with a known quality keeper coming in. That hasn't happened. You don't get promoted with a bang average goalkeeper. Spitting facts!

Saying all that obvious weaknesses are often not rectified by clubs and that plays a large part in why the vast majority of teams are unsuccessful most seasons, if their aim is promotion.

Is this the wrong thread? Bit confused where this has come from.

Defence yes, midfield will be fine for next season assuming Palmer is fixed. Robertson been a rare bright spark in our last few weeks, been quietly excellent.

He possibly has the worst first touch I've ever seen and I'm including Bassala Sambou in that.

He was hilarious, had about five of your defenders attempting to mark him at the same time at one point.

I'm not sure he's going to be any good personally, but might actually be really helpful for us. We've got enough tiny creative men with a lovely touch knocking about. Massive chaos man is definitely going to create space for them.

Hate to correct a Mansfield Town fan talking about Notts County, surprise surprise :bg: but it's never like we are playing with one less man, due to his work rate and the close attention he unsurprisingly gets due to his goalscoring exploits. He record is poor against the top teams no doubt, who can mark him out the game, but the main reason for that isn't Macca it's the team as we simply don't create for him against better opposition. Opposed to mid table sides and below where we have, lots.

Lots of teams play poorer sides and struggle because they don't have that brilliant poacher in the box who works his socks off who makes the difference, scores the goals and wins the game.

Do agree we would likely be better off selling for big money and re investing (I'd be very happy with that outcome, although I'm in the minority among the fanbase) but if that doesn't happen we get a top goalscorer for 4 full seasons for £50k. Whatever happens it's a simply fantastic piece of business and recruitment by the club.
Saw an item on transfer uk website with players values he isnt really that highly rated by them think crowley was your most valuable asset but even he was way behind keillor dunn

I don't actually read what people are talking about. I skim read, get a thought pop into my head and I start getting on my soapbox and posting about it.

Once Macauley Langstaff scores 100 odd L1 goals, is a regular in the championship and goes for £5m worth of transfer fees I'll be ready to compare him with Will Grigg. Tongue in cheek, I do get the general point you're making and somewhat agree with it. I have actually been a bit surprised by Grigg, I was one of those who quietly thought it was a bit of a dud transfer and we're stuck with a non scoring downhill striker for a few years, but he's proved me wrong. He can peel away in tight areas and find little spaces when tightly marked like no one I've seen since Lester. He is either scoring or largely invisible though so I get you. Defence does need sorting badly. It worries me seeing guys like Waterfall at Grimsby deemed not good enough for L2 dumped off to the NL and is getting rave reviews again. Stockport came to the same decision about Palmer very quickly too, and we play 4 at the back. L2 just seems to require a different type of defender.

Our recent wobble has grounded people a bit I think because a lot were talking about going straight through L2 a bit back (mostly Twitter twats tbf) but I'd be happy just consolidating to be honest. Squad might need a season or two of trimming and strengthening before we're ready for that. Still got this seasons job to finish off yet.

Unsurprisingly not a name I'm familiar. Quick check on Wiki and I say forget horrendous first touches I'm just hoping our big man can score a few more than Bassala Sambou did at Crewe.

Setting the bar really low, but it's a start.

Not many promoted NL teams drop straight back down so it's by no means an insurmountable jump.

We gave it a really good go, at Christmas in our first season we looked dead and buried, stayed up by a point!

Quite possibly the worst striker I've seen play for us in my 22 years of watching us. And we've had some stinkers. But Sambou was one of the highest paid players at the club and his goals were 2 scruffy tap ins (1 of which he almost messed up) and a very good finish in the cup vs Orient in injury time out of nowhere.

He scored a grand total of 0 goals in the league last season and was shipped off to Oldham on loan. Thanks to Artell for giving him the most ludicrous contract clause in club history where if he played 10 games in his second season he'd get an automatic one year deal, we had to pay him off in the Summer and that wasn't cheap for a club of our financial stature that's for sure. Now warms the bench in the Cypriot Second Division. Nice lad just a very shit footballer.

Champions of the Conference have never gone straight back down since promotion was introduced.

I think it tends to be fans of teams that have never been relegated into it that pass it off as way off League 2 standard.

Having watched us down there for 15 years, I would say there is a noticeable difference with the bottom half of the National League but that the teams around the play offs would all fair (in general) ok in this league. League 2 seems pretty forgiving I would say, I mean Colchester look pretty safe and hardly ever pick up a win.

The main problem is having just the 1 Auto spot. Continually falling short to FGR, Crawley, Fleetwood, Salford etc was pretty demoralising. No offence to those sides.
