I think the last time I really paid any attention to this lot, they had Kevin Betsy and Nathan Tyson playing for them. Anyone care to fill us in on what they're like these days? I know they have Bayo and Dayle Southwell, but that's about it. How did the latter do on the opening day of the season? Was pretty surprised he got a move into League 2. He obviously did great at Boston, but was some way off Conference Premier standard when we let him go.

Absolutely nailed on to score past us now. 1-1.

Southwell has played well on both games we've played so far and was unlucky not to score at Crawley with shot being cleared off the line. Betsy and Tyson now they were great days when we played football on the deck unlike now.

Is it still a bloody nightmare getting to and away from the ground and is that pub with the strippers still there? :bg:

If you're coming by train buses are laid on both ways at £3 return. The White Horse you mean? Last i heard it was still there.

Southwell looked alright to me, some nice touches and actually tries to pick his pass - but the goals need to follow. We basically haven't got a pot to piss in though - I think the last time we played you we still had a sugar daddy but those days are gone and we're trust-owned now. Which is probably better for the sustainability of the club, but it means that we can't afford big money signings, so are left taking punts on non-league hopefuls and journeymen on their way down (like Bayo).

Be warned however, our "game management" will most probably drive you to distraction - it infuriates me and I support the team, let alone what opposition fans must think. I can't remember the last time we had less than 6 minutes stoppage time in a game.

most of the conference teams who came to Blundell Park over the last 6 years of hell utilised the "game management" style. W'ere use to it.......god I hated it down there. Breath of fresh 'league' air playing you lot.............0-0 bore draw it is then!:2thumb:

Agreed, we had 6 years of being "driven to distraction" so I doubt anything that Wycombe do tomorrow will faze us. :bg:

My wife's boss's daughter had been going out with Josh Gowling for a while but she has dumped him today so i'm hoping if he is back in the team that his head is not elsewhere for tomorrow.

Now that is a fucking sickener, sounds like we had enough chances to win 3 games that second half.

Sounded like an utter piss poor goal to concede at the end. Would've taken a draw but we've still got a lot of learning and a lot of gelling to do so I'm not too worried.

jaysus, 2 goals in one game. None so far this season from our strikers though...right, play the percentages and win the set pieces it is. This season's going to be a downright pleasure to watch. Possibly.

And how shit does Thompson have to play to get substituted? Can't believe he stayed on and Southwell was taken off.Yes i know we won but this season is gonna be another bloody chore for Wycombe and opposition fans.

You Wycombe fans on this forum sure are a honest lot. Well done  Usually, when a side is painful to watch, you'd get their fans coming up with all sort of excuses especially the 'who cares about the style, it's the points that count' one.

How the hell could we defend what's obvious to everyone? You won't hear any of our fans say they like our style of play which will not change as long as Ainsworth is our manager :sna: Now on Tuesday we will bore the Accy fans to death at Adams Park.

think we need a Lincolnshire Poacher. Someone who will get us a goal from a half chance from an error or pressure...
Anyone we could sign from a smaller club? Like Hartlepool for example...?

Went today. Nice ground and lovely weather.

Wycombe took the first half but there weren't many chances from either side. Second half, Wycombe started better and got the goal, which looked to be a nicely taken free kick. We equalised after some poor defending by Wycombe in the box and I think a draw would've been fair. Sickener to concede so late and from what looked to bounce off both posts. Thank god it's only the second game!

Onto individuals:

Wycombe's CBs were excellent and we didn't get a sniff when we kicked it long.
Wycombe also had control of the midfield. Upfront, Southwell was poor and Bayo certainly gave us something to think about. Game changed when we brought Bogle on.

Slight bias but I thought refs gave us nothing. We'll have to be more cohesive upfront to win games this season.

Upfront, Southwell was poor...

Thanks for the review.

Re. Southwell - Poor in what way? That isn't supposed to be defensive, I've only seen him play once and you probably have a far better idea of what he's about than I do.

The one time I've seen him he showed some nice touches but ultimately no end product, although the service wasn't great.

He looked busy and showed good link up play. When he got into the box, he just seemed to lose all confidence. Missed shots, bad decisions etc. Based on today's game, I'm still not sure what type of player he is.

Horrendous defending for the winner. What are Davies and Boyce playing at?!

I wasn't there today and I don't like commenting when I've not been to the game, but just seen their winner on Channel 5. Where the hell was the defence, how on earth did we allow Akinfenwa to get that header in and even after that the ball should have been cleared after it hit the post before their striker scored!

Poor defending for our goal too, how does a central defender turn and get a fluffed shot away in the oponents area?

Anyhow, I said last week the defensive mistakes would cost us in this league, unlike the conference. Needs sorting.

Also true, we barely score any but for the last couple of seasons we have compensated with a mean defence, that was not a goal that we want to be letting in if we're aiming to keep that reputation.
