A single unitary authority for urban Dorset

This argument which I've read in several places now is a huge slice of strawman-ship. Trying to assert that the goal of Brexit was to immediately rid ourselves of all EU law all of which is somehow hideous and unclean and needed burning asap, and then ridiculing the Government for not doing so. Ridiculous.

What did they think we'd do, try and get career politicians to design an entirely new legal system? Or use test case justice to unpick each layer of our existing national and EU legal system? We'd be left in a limbo and mess until the end of time trying to unpick that with a court system in gridlock. I'm sure Remain would be quick to jump on that, and I'm sure they'd like it even less.

Of course this approach is the most sensible one to take to provide some legal stability and consistency, whilst we figure out how this is all going to work in reality over the coming years. After all, it's instability in other areas that seems to be the fear and trouble no?

The article asserts that we'll end up with a more powerful independent judiciary, as if that's something 'Brexit' will be annoyed about. The UK invented the bloody concept 300 years ago  the independent judiciary of the EU was built upon the example of the UK judiciary!

A perfect legal system is impossible, be it ours or the EUs or anyone elses. But it'll be our internal judiciary that we'll be working with.

Wtf is Flooks?

We call quicksand granny's custard down in Wales. Fucking killer. Apparently it's the left over of tree's from 1000's of years ago.
It might be "left over of tree's....." something, in your neck of the woods (you don't just get it in the sea) but the sort I'm talking about was a particular mix of sand, silt and water and the patches varied with changing tides and seasons.

You haven't lived if you haven't tried flook treading.

flounder-also-known-locally-as-flooks.jpg

I think some people call them Flounder but apparently there are different species. I just know they taste really sweet. The treading is the method of catching - you just shuffle along in bare feet and try to stand on them.

The Yanks call Flukes, "Summer Flounder," not to be confused with Flounder, also called Winter Flounder.

I've seen the stuff that you're complaining about. Thrashing about for the sake of it or just venting.

I didn't get that from these articles - but it may be perception of the reader coming through.

However, if I'm right, it's pot calling the kettle black on setting up straw men. I'll read it again and let others judge.

The angle that I got from the articles was more that almost all of the changes in legislation (freeing from the bonds of Brussels) are likely to come from executive decisions steered by Whitehall civil servants and decided by Ministers. The civil servants will provide ways of getting around the main issues getting bogged down in paliament - it's their job and bred in the bone. How you feel about that depends on your comfort with an unopposed Government where the main sticking points will be provided by rebel tories and scottish nationalists.

The news I saw earlier reported that regardless of whichever argument won the ruling today, it would be appealed in the Supreme Court.

One thing I haven't seen in all the time since the Ref, is a estimate at how many votes in Parliament a Remian or Brexit vote might garner?

Might it result in a snap general election I wonder?

Quite predictably May is having a woeful time of it and she's caused a lot of it by from what I can tell her own ego to 'own' Brexit.

The right & fair thing to do would be for a general election as to the vision of Brexit, each party lays out their plans and put it to the electorate. If Bliar wants to set up a party to provide a voice for his illuminati friends then he can do, smat will be all over it but it'll fail miserably.

I hope the supreme court backs up the high court personally as it would make my desires for Brexit more of a reality. For parliament to have a vote then concessions will be needed or May would risk absolute disaster of which we've probably never seen before. Depending on what happens with the supreme May has wasted 6 months and this set back will mean the time frame will be extended massively. This whole thing has been about long term gains though & the best things come to those that wait.

Only delaying the inevitable really. I shouldn't think MPs would vote against leaving and undermine the democracy of the public vote anyway. Shame.

Or would they......

Because ze 'heartlands' want Brexit whether you think that is the right opinion or not.

NE - Leave won by a margin of 16.08%
NW - Leave won by a margin of 7.3%
West Mids - Leave won by a margin of 18.52%
Wales - Leave won by a margin of 5.06%
Yorkshire - Leave won by a margin of 15.42%
East Mids - Leave won by a margin of 17.64%

UKIP had been eroding away Labour votes due to the desire for Brexit (and a good bit of racism thrown in too). Now Brexit has been done it would be absolute madness for Labour to opt for a remain stance. They'd be utterly destroyed, wiped out. Labour needs now to educate people away from racist overtones which can be achieved given the wider philosophy that the party now represents. EU favoured the rich & big business which exploited total free movement for their own ends at the expense of working class britons. That's just the reality. For Labour not to acknowledge (pretty sure it's only that man Jezza who actually has) is an insult to the people they supposedly represent.

I also loved the result cuz it was a dagger to the hearts of the 'educated'. Their consent is the most manufactored there is. They believe themselves to be all high & mighty but they're the most manipulated group there is. Subservient wankers who are still believing the lies they've been fed their whole lives.

One half of that statement seems at odds with the other. Labour is already haemorrhaging working class support due to their stance on freedom of movement, to betray the man on the street further by blocking a referendum victory could really open the floodgates. Fortunately I suspect that Corbyn is actually quite content for Britain to leave the EU and for any negative fallout to be welcome ammunition against the Tories and UKIP.

Quite frankly I think it is an utter disgrace this "news" has overshadowed the poppy debate. Talk about priorities.

Macclesfield Town/Manchester City. It's complicated.

There's a lot made of the fact that 17m people voted out, but 16m people voted in. That's a lot of people,. People who may well back a major party who are opposing brexit. The Lib Dems made a massive gain in the by election. Not enough to overcome a completely safe seat, but still a huge leap. There are people out there who will back a pro-remain party.

Clearly not enough to win a general election which is the point.

Is it an actual ruling that is stopping us from leaving or is it just someone being a c***?

I doubt there are many people that backed Remain that don't already support predominantly Remain-backing parties, whereas there have to be loads of people who back those parties yet still voted Leave.
