We had it under Appleton when it was clear his way of playing wasn't working with the squad we had at the time. He got some leeway because the Club were quite open about the January transfer window and selling anyone who was saleable, getting L2 high earners off the books, lowering the age of the squad and changing the style of play so we knew it was going to be a bumpy ride. I actually think we'd have stuck with him if the worst happened because he had success at Oxford in L2.

The following season we got to the PO's, albeit that ended up being an anomaly both in terms of league position and performances because the seasons after that were awful for the most part.

On the flip side we stuck with Steve Tilson when, in hindsight, we should have sacked him either with a few games to go in our 2010/11 relegation season or in the summer because that negativity followed into the next.

In Simpson though, he's had success at L2 level so I don't think it's as much of a risk sticking with him but it probably puts huge pressure on him in the first two or three months of next season.

John Percy at the Telegraph saying Millwall are after Harris, negotiations with us have already started. Seems a bit bizarre but it doesn't seem like a meaningless rumour from a twitter bot.

Would that be a loss? You weren't playing scintillating football

Don't let the door hit you on the way out Harris. Good riddance.

Christ I hope not. Just give it to Barry Corr until the end of the season.

I don't like Harris, I don't rate him, as I said in the relegation thread I wasn't entirely confident we'd be alright, but this is probably a distraction we could do without.

We weren't on fire but we were harder to beat so were picking up points faster than we were under Bonner. If we mirrored the points total of his first 13 games, in the last 13 then we'd comfortably stay up.

Harder run of games coming up and now need to find a new man to lead us. Short term it's a loss. If we stay up and get a decent compensation then maybe not.

I’m certainly not disappointed, said along I think he’s clueless, if we can get a decent payout for him then I’d say it’s a blinding bit of business from the club.

Harris must be on for being the first manager to manage in L2, L1 and the Championship in one season?!

A bizarre one for Millwall but a decent move for Cambridge in the long term in my opinion (not 100% sure if they've improved under him? Haven't paid too much notice)?

Something in the water in South London this season. Bit of a strange move from Millwall but think he will keep them up. Pleased as we tend to lose to Neil Harris sides and we have a crunch game against Cambridge at the end of the season

We 100% improved under Harris, even if fans don't like him or his football, it's a results business and we certainly wouldn't be where we are now if we stuck with Bonner.

Michael Duff please.

I posted on here earlier, can’t remember what on, then been in back to back meetings. Check my phone and the Cambridge message board has gone mental with this.

Just catching up but immediate reaction is that this isn’t positive news - despite the football being difficult on the eye, he had made us harder to beat and I think we were on the road to safety. This derails that somewhat.

Not sure who I want in charge now.

My Millwall supporting mate would not be happy. Still, it would be nice to have another London club in league one (assuming QPR stay up)

Trade off for us (if, and a big if, we stay up), get to laugh at them coming down and obviously Millwall is a massive derby game for us but we always bloody lose to them so they may as well start on 6 points. 1996 was the last time we beat them. Think Harris would be perfect short term to go in and keep them up but that's it, wouldn't expect them to progress next season with him at the helm

Ffs can’t believe this is happing, especially on top of Taylor getting that stupid red card last night. We had improved greatly under Harris, just look at the performances against Pompey and Bolton, yes we lost both but would have been absolutely stuffed in both with Bonner in charge. As it was you could argue we were well worth a point in both games. All in all a real ball ache before we play the northern scum on Saturday, I was looking forward to this game with great hope but not any more.

He's looking at Championship and upper League 1.

He won't be going to Cambridge.
Darren Moore "wouldn't be coming to Port Vale"

Never know as he will probably need to drop down to work back up again.

Possibly, but I don't see it to be honest. He's quite happy to wait for the right opportunity. I know he's getting interviews at Championship clubs still.

But clearly not getting them.

I assume he went for the Charlton job too and didn’t get that. I’m not saying we’ll go for him or be able to attract him but I don’t think you can say he won’t be interested because he’s getting interviews at bigger clubs.

Harris’s departure confirmed, hope it goes tits up for him at Millwall and we see him again next season to say ‘ hello old bean’ or something not remotely similar.

Just from the outside that's a bit shitty of Harris to leave like that. I get Millwall is his club etc but Cambridge gave him a shot after he was sacked by Gillingham. Not sure if I was a Millwall fan I'd be overly thrilled with it either, would have been better off keeping Rowett given how things worked out since you'd think.

Who ironically (Rowett) has Cambridge connections so it could generally be a Millwall Cambridge merry go round.

You were 18th when he joined. You're now 17th. That's a great improvement?

One win in two months before Bonner got sacked. We were sleep walking to relegation under Bonner.

18 points from a possible 36 under Harris so a big improvement.

You beat us playing good football under Bonner. When you came to SJP under Harris, you came for a 0-0 and played turgid football.

But what do I know?

I know he's being particularly picky himself. I daresay one he's just missed out on is because of how rigid he is about not moving away from home full-time.

I could be wrong, but I'm sure I'm not. He won't be interested in the Cambridge job now. In the summer - possibly - but even then I'd err on the side of no as well.

Bonner had gone stale and a change was needed, no doubt about it.

I don’t think Harris was every part of our long term project with us only giving him an 18 month contract. Our plan was to continue to consolidate in league one while all the money is ploughed into the new training ground and stadium.

Make no mistake about it though, Harris has done us over big time.
