Newport are a traditional football league side.

Woah, hang on a minute here. The old Newport qualify due to being a traditional lower league side for a few good decades, that ended in the late 80's however. The 'new' club (30 years old by the way) is classed as an historical tinpotter.

I think if we can clear Saturday's hurdle at Eastleigh, we've got a massive chance to take a decisive lead - our games are an out-of-form Chester and relegation threatened Torquay, whereas Tranmere's are FGR and Aldershot.

They can't keep scoring in stoppage time to rescue themselves, those two games will severely test them.

Sign of champions, apparently. As opposed to being solid defensively and winning big games comfortably and without drama, like yourselves.

Yes I forgot how they thrashed Boreham wood 0-2...Or the demolishing 1-1 result at Sutton

Yet took 12 points from 12 against yourselves and FGR.....he's on about the BIG games.

No dramas for us. You still need us to drop points twice and win *all* of your remaining games. Nothing has changed. My original post stands, you're really up against it if we can take the win on Saturday.

I take it Tranmere haven't dropped any points to anyone near the bottom?

Of course they haven't. Haven't you heard that they're non-league's answer to the Harlem Globetrotters since Mellon took over?

You joke but a tiny bit of research will reveal that Mr Michael 'Mickey the Melon' Mellon has never lost a game of football as a manager.

Not too sure I'm concerned of the thoughts of our title rivals and bitter Wrexham fans :)

Sure Lincoln are favourites and if they do it fair play to them, but it's not the foregone conclusion a couple posters above are trying to insinuate and its not going to take a seismic shift for us to win the league, just a continuation of what has happened over the last 10 games.

Have we really won that many games at the last gasp? Scraped wins more than anyone else? Chester and Sutton recently, York four months ago, but it's not like we're making a habit of it. Also, nobody has scored more in the last 10 than us except FGR and York.

Still, any opportunity for Lincoln and Wrexham fans to knock us.

I wonder how much of the FA Cup money has been spent on widening all the turnstiles and doors at Sincil Bank?

Lincoln fans can say what they want, but they are worried and pressure is there. The only thing that has stopped us currently being sat 12 points ahead of Lincoln are the two results between our clubs. (Take the 6 off them = 76 and put that 6 on to ours = 88).

Bare that in mind when you think about our respective performances against the rest of the league - even after beating us twice, you're currently sat level on points with us. If we'd have beaten you twice, or even drawn, we'd be 6 or 12 points ahead of you.

Ifs and buts. I've said before, those two games will likely win them the title. We didn't get the results when it mattered, and if it's decisive. then Lincoln will have deserved it.

Ironically (given the above posts from CrazyImp about our alleged penchant for late winners), it took 89th and 91st minute goals for them to earn their victory at FGR.

I'd have thought Eastleigh was probably the easiest of that trio and the one where there is any prospect of dropping points is Torquay.

Again, last time Lincoln played Torquay it took a 93rd minute winner from Rhead to secure the three points.

You need to swap Chester and Wrexham around on that. Both 56 points but Chester +9 Wrexham -8.
Eastleigh, Boreham Wood and York are wrong too, but it's midtable, who cares? :dk:

It's a fairly easy equation, all teams will have late winners, suffer late goals conceded and lose games that are sometimes unexpected. The team that finishes top come the end of the season will ultimately deserve it over the entire season, not on one or two results.

Only concern for me is that we have been top for a large part of the season so it could be a psychological blow to miss out at the death and have to fight it out in the play offs.

Unbeaten in 20 league and cup at home.
Beaten Tranmere and FGR twice.
Beaten Gateshead, Dover and Dagenham at home too.
Only Barrow (think) have beaten us twice.
Yes we've not beaten Sutton this season, everyone has a team or two they struggle against.
We've had an amazing season if we don't go up at least I know they'll have given it a bloody good go and good luck to Tranmere you''ll have earned the title big time.

Our home record vs top half is very good, failing to take chances away from home has generally cost us vs the top teams. But everyone struggles against a certain style. For us it's the direct balls in behind McNulty with pacey forwards. Lincoln, Barrow, Dagenham and Macc all did that fairly well against us.

We have dominated everyone (aside a very good and even game at FGR) who have tried to match our possession based game however.

It'd be nice to think the two best teams in us and Lincoln go up, but something tells me the team that misses out will be knackered come the playoffs and lose out to an Aldershot or the like who have not played as many games in March/April.

That's why I think your home games with FGR and Aldershot will decide whether it's us or you guys that go up as Champions.
We won at FGR and Tranmere too...

God knows how we're top hey? We must be the luckiest team ever!
Don't deliberately miss the point. My posts were aimed at CrazyImp and Master D, who seem to be trying to make us out to be uber-jammy last-gasp specialists, when in fact, we're no different to anyone else really.

Not really any making out to be done, to be brutally honest.
