I'm seriously worried now. Baffled as we started so well, no idea what's changed but we've just turned into a fetid lump of pigeon lime.

Was always going to happen, you had some good form towards the end of last season at home but your squad is poor, I don't think you'll go down but you'll be lucky to finish mid table.

Nah, we'll be fine. We're the Mighty U's after all :err:

Seriously though, I think we will be, but only when Derry gets the boot. Problem is who we'll replace him with, as I'm not seeing a lot of unemployed good managers around. Anybody reckons we can tempt Ronnie Moore to leave Eastleigh?

John Coleman or Gareth Ainsworth for me.

Yep, very good choices. I didn't really mean it when I said Moore, but I was thinking of the incredible job he did at Pools when everything was more or less lost, though heaven forbid we find ourselves adrift at the bottom of the table like Pools were!

FWIW, I reckon we have enough to stay up, and I'd like to think there are at least 2 sides worse than us. Problem is a lot depends on the strikers, and no one knows if Corr will be back, or if McGurk is indeed a decent striker. If Corr won't play again, then I assume we'll get another striker in January, but then again who knows if he'll be good?

Then there's also the little problem of Dunk as we don't know for sure if he'll be the same Dunk we had before the injury.

Although I agree with what a lot of U's are saying/thinking, I've got better things to do than worry about relegation at the beginning of September.

If the board (Jez/DD) decide we need a change of manager in the next month or so, that probably rules out another "Won Twice at Wembley" this time around. If Derry and the team can manufacture a way of scoring and a couple of wins from the next 4 matches, a fit Barry Corr offers the prospect of an enjoyable winter of football and awaydays.

Plenty of room for gloom and frustration if we go into December in the bottom 4, out of the FA Cup and with no functioning strikers. See you in November. :bye:

Don't get me wrong Alan, I'm not thinking of relegation already, and fwiw, I think we'll end up in mid table come May. Still, I don't know if you have a good recollection of the 2004/05 season, because we were doing exactly the same we're doing now and that is we were saying we've only played 10 games and there are another 36 to go yet. Those 36 games soon became 30, then 22, then 10 and we finally realised we were in too deep to come out of it. But tbf, there is one major difference between that horrible season and this one - we are in a much better financial situation and this reason alone should give us all hope.

What am I doing here again?

Yes. 2004/2005 was a couple of seasons into my Abbey attending habit. Not that we can't f*ck it up but the difference is chalk and cheese in terms of what's behind the scenes.

I've blanked most of it out. 2003/2004 was bad enough.

That said, do you think Derry has a bit of Herve about him?.

You were supposedly going to be promotion candidates, based on the quality of your squad. You might not have had the best of starts, but unless everyone was way off base about the quality, then you should have it in you to easily avoid relegation. May require a change of manager though, and based on what your fans and Notts fans have been saying, it almost certainly will do.

You were actually shorter odds than us to win the title, and one of the teams in red that form part of our 'tough start' according to experimental-3-6-1 which based initial toughness on odds.

Both Carlisle‘s scariest and most winnable-looking matches are like buses this season: they play five relegation favourites in a row starting in early October and then in five of their last seven matches, the latter of which could see them mount a late surge up the table. Their tough games are also clustered together, with five of their first ten games against the division’s most-fancied sides and six of their first nine games post-January looking similarly scary.

October/early November sees us play the bottom 5 favourites (not sure who they are) consecutively, and 4 of those 5 at the end of the season.

Is this a piss take? You want Ainsworth as far as i am concerned he's yours. :smug:

Care to elaborate on this? Negative football I know but he has to do a job on a shoe string budget. He can't just go and sign a goalscorer who costs big money in wages.

Coleman would be my first choice though.

Keeps picking his mates even whenthey are playing crap like Sam wood and Gary Thompson and leaving better players on the bench, horrible football to watch with all the cheating and time wasting (Not so much this season as we rarely take the lead) and lying to us fans about players injuries and he gives 2 year contracts to players past their prime. If you want him he's still got 2 years left on a 5 year contract which will obviously cost you.Oh and 1 league win in our last 14 League games is not a good record.

I'm not as anti-Ainsworth as Mowgli but yeah, if you are offering actual money to take GA then go ahead.

It's what you get when you don't pay money for a player for several years relying on free agents and loans. We've averaged around 50 different players every season over the last few years. Our board are complete bellends and I cannot see a way out of this vicious circle.

Not sure why you're baffled. One look at your squad and it's clearly absolutely dreadful, even for this level. Won't go as far as the 'cannon fodder' comment I made about York this time last season (and got pelters for), but if you finish outside the bottom six or seven I'd be amazed.

We started really well though. We have got 11 players who are more than good enough level, the trouble is our squad is so thin.

We have no way of generating any cash, that's our main problem and it has been for years. Our board have been in place for nearly 20 years and have always refused to spend. Then there's the local councils who would rather the club wasn't there. We've put in around 10 planning applications to improve the ground and surrounding area and all have been turned down. The usual reason is we would be building on pitches which could be used by the community so we need to replace them. We've just submitted an application to create free community-use facilities - two full-sized pitches, a cricket pitch, a pavilion and changing rooms on land near our ground which isn't used. The planning officers recommended it to be approved. The council committee met and it's been refused. They won't say why :bang:

Well you've finally stopped taking free agents off us so perhaps the future is indeed bright. When we released Luis Pedro (remember him Carlisle fans) for being generally ineffective at the end of last season I thought he was an almost dead-cert to end up at Yeovil... come to think of it, I think Courtney Meppen-Walter is still available, or how about Alex Marrow?

Speaking as a qualified planner, they have to say why they refuse something as part of the process of refusing permission. They probably have given reasons on the refusal notice because anything else would be a sham, but from what you say I take it they're refusing to speak to the press or elaborate on their reasons.

The only other thing I can think of, is if it was only recently refused then it may be 'minded to refuse', which is a process some councils follow in which a decision that counters officer's recommendations is deferred for a month to allow the officers time to draft appropriate reasons for refusal and the councillors time to consider whether they really can refuse it for sound reasons. On rare occasions where councillors either change their mind or realise there is no valid argument their officers can make to support their decision, they may change their mind.

That's politicians for you... most of them are there for their own agenda, or to represent whichever section of society voted them in. I guess Yeovil Town fans don't represent a large enough slice of the electorate in Yeovil for local councillors to care what they want. I once worked for a council (not saying which, but rest assured it's not my local council) where members of the planning committee said quite openly they wanted to be on the planning committee so that they could oppose development and stop officers from getting their own way.

We won our first five league games last season, and look where we still are. Think the first few games of the season are generally inconsequential as an indicator whilst teams are still finding their feet. I'm not a great expert on Yeovil so I might be missing something, but I can't see a single one of your players getting into the Orient side which is never a good sign, considering I would have taken a couple from Dagenham last year.

Would happily swap Chairmen, mind.

We did the mass turnover thing three seasons running. We got worse and worse and worse and turned over plenty of managers and three Chief Execs as well.
It's been disastrous for the club and I'm entirely grateful that the loan window is tight shut til January forcing us to coach the players we have into a team.

I would worry how much heart Zoko and Izale MacLeod have between them in a relegation battle. They were both disinterested mercenaries for us and never once dug in to help their team mates when things weren't going well.

We're doomed. Yesterday was a real low point and our lowest crowd since we got into the football league.
