I think the fact in our last two games we have been short on bodies, and looked very tired but still got 6 points is a very good sign.

I’m enjoying it at minute, I do think our form is being helped by a poor standard of opposition although maybe I’ll be proved wrong next Saturday, definitely need some extra quality in January for me, with one or two going the other way, because this league is there to be taken advantage of this season.

Agreed. We need more bodies. A few injuries or suspensions and we end up with Hawkins in defence and a bench of unprovens.

I am not as worried by the defence or team now as I was earlier in the season but to be honest I'd still hope we'd get first team quality players for 4 or 5 positions in the next couple of transfer windows to upgrade, add competition and give quality/pace to the team in wide areas and up front.

At last we seem to be heading in the right direction but there's still a long way to go.

Some boos at the end of the game from fans in the ground was a bit harsh.

We were more direct and the players we have suit a shorter build up but teams have countered that and puts us under massive pressure. The issue we have is no height and strength to hold it up at the top end and no I don't count Fondop.

It looks a bit aimless but there were periods where we got it forward and got it down from there.

Scunthorpe were shite but worked hard. It keeps us 11 points off them and remember staying up is really all that matters this season.

I wouldn't mind us being more direct if we had the players to make it work but we just don't, so the constant long balls forward from the CB's seemed pointless, they had a giant centre back who was winning everything against Cullen, if you wanna play that way stick Fondop up top or don't bother.

The boo's were pretty pathetic, if your not happy just don't applaud, a few players walking the pitch were on the receiving end of some verbals from the Town End also which was bizarre, some fans have real short memories.

Yesterday was poor, fans know it and I'd bet even Lee and Nelson know it, but they've broken a 5 game losing streak in the league and picked up 4 from 6, it's a good return and something for them to both build on.

I thought the first half an hour they were bullying and outnumbering us. We had no grip of the game in midfield. It was a bit rubbish from their point of view to not get a second goal and to then concede two soft ones. We didn't really offer anything to score our goals.

We did have the best spell of the game just after half-time. We were getting in down the sides and flashing it across the face of goal. We looked very good. Something must have been said at half-time.

The last half an hour we couldn't pass it to a yellow shirt. It seems we are always clinging on rather than continuing to attack and finish the game.

On the balance of us chasing the ball for so long and being unable to pass it to a teammate, I think a draw would have been fair. Agreed on Salford offering little insofar as clear cut chances go.

My issue with salford was if they spent more time playing football and less time being cocks they’d be more successful - as a club or as a set of fans they have no redeeming features whatsoever.

2 cynical challenges on quinn early on, time wasting after 15 minutes, play acting - i think after 30 minutes the ref was done with it.

Correct that we went deep too early and in fairness that was down to 3 games in a week and some were dead on their feet at the end, but to keep chasing and harrying the way we did was superb, rawson was immense.

It's a difficult one as Scunny like Rochdale expected us to go short so had three or four players ready to close it down.

A lot of our defensive issues come from not playing through the press. The last 2 games have gone slightly the other way and we've just boshed it long instead.

In the NL we didn't get pressed as much so we were able to dictate games for long periods. We were able to here at the start but then we got worked out.

Lee will have to find a balance between the long and short options. We don't have the players at this level to pull either off spectacularly so let's see what he can get in January to address that.

For me it was the final ball that let us down on Saturday rather than the long ball. We should've won and how Cullen didn't get a pen when he was wrestled over late on is beyond me.

We've failed to score a goal in 19 of our last 23 league away games now, it's so poor.

The few occasions the long ball worked was when it was whacked in behind for Molyneux to run onto, Onariase looked like a carthorse when we were actually playing football in front of him and not playing to his strengths.

Agree on the final ball, Sterry whipped in some decent crosses second half but we had at best one body in the box, Grey was put through towards the end but panicked and played a poor ball to the edge of the box instead of rolling it along the 6 yard for Cullen to tap in, think the ref did bottle the penalty shout, there was a tangle of bodies and I think he's just played it safe and didn't give it.

Another day we sneak a scruffy goal and win that 1-0, we're doing well, 27 points close to the half way mark of the season, there's money to spend in January which Adrian Bevington made a big deal of, get a strike partner for Cullen maybe some big rough arse ugly fucker and we'll be fine.

Salford generally are pretty awful, and they have been for a good 12 months or more. I'm surprised they're as high in the table as they are. Seem to just keep shit housing points here and there but really just offer nothing.

They started time wasting 15 minutes in, and the players were clearly told to go all guns blazing with tackles when Quinn had the ball, I know he’s our main man but if that’s the best Bowyer can come up with tactically to handle it he deserves sacking.

It’s L2, what do people expect especially on a crap day like yesterday.

Same as us really, Loft(who is an average striker but he scores a couple) the fans have turned on him, Scrimshaw barely gets a game, Jarvis (surprise) keeps getting injured.

If we don’t score we go down. First priority for Keith next month - find someone.

Good crowd in the Mill House across from us. Again if we ever sort ourselves out the things we should be trying to do (and not the Drum)

If we lost to a goal like this i would have no complaints.
let me try anyway. you got a throw-in for this

Screenshot 2021-12-12 at 15.48.19.png

which started the move for that goal. We got a red when Jones was first to the ball and your player just fell over him. also criminal defending from Burgess just to let Azaz walk into the area unmarked like that.

How'd I do?

Newport were the better side though, which is why I don't actually have any complaints, just depressed about our only striker being a half-fit 17 year-old.

If oldham can score 5 against them ,they are not unbeatable ,stags have not really had a full strength team for a good run so game on

Felt for Eden, he’s been out for months and thrown into his debut like that, clearly not ready yet either he looked way off. No his fault, nor really the clubs just the way it’s going at the moment.

Good for him to get some minutes either way.

Frustrating the referee, not that it would make any difference by that point in terms of red (although obviously their goal doesn’t happen if that one above is given) but losing DJ is another body out.

It’s so frustrating, we have the best squad we’ve had in years and a real good chance of auto and it’s just bad luck really. Just got to keep digging until the players are back and reinforcements are signed and sure we will get back into the levels we were at a few weeks back. Hopefully by then the damage done isn’t too severe and we can rescue it.

City have uploaded extended highlights of our game against Sutton. The corner which led to the scramble and Angol's handball shouldn't have been given because Hornby collects it before it goes out of play. The refs at this level really are useless.

I watched the whole second half on Sunday. Terrific commentary by the Vale pair, also supplying Radio Stoke.

As one of them pointed out, the tackle on Gibbons wasn't a foul - and as the commentary positions are on the opposite side to the camera, they have a proper view of it. Also said Jones deserved the red for a thigh-high tackle.

Some breathless stuff on your local paper's site about a coach being "pelted with bricks". What happened?

Tidy vid from Saturday - good angle for Willmott's tackle which was spot on. Looks like the ref got the red card correct again - Cooper just too quick for Jones who went through him above knee height. Azaz finish looks even better too.

I'll just have to stick with the angle that Newport should have had a man sent off in the run up to their second then. Although I still maintain that's not a sending off for Jones- not a dangerous challenge at all. He's just trying to block the ball and player with a dangling leg as oppose to flying in shin high at a 90 degree angle. Didn't change the result, mind. The one on Gibbons did, however.

It’s one of them. 20 years ago it’s a great tackle. These days you just get them go against you, reminded me of the one Gibbons got against these a few seasons back although that was correctly over turned.

Their guy milks it and it’s where we lack the streetwise at times, Gibbons goes and rolls about like that maybe the outcome on the first one is different.

We always seem to end up a man down or on the end of a dodgy penalty at Rodney Parade!

Oh do me a favour. Your lot are just as streetwise as anyone else and milked the ref all game - the time wasting after you went ahead in the 25th minute was pitiful. Your keeper got booked for it in the first half. Karma at the end when we went in front to see him running about off his nut.

Port Vale complaining about other teams playing the ref is very funny considering what they did against us.
