The football on show at Crabble today was beyond crap. Fairly comfortable 3 points without needing to bring on either of our best players.

Forest Green late winner won me £300 too, so cheers lads

A game more akin to a training session at Sincil Bank and a boring one at that.

First half was, in the main, Farman GK, wind gets hold of it and drops at the halfway line. Southport kick/head it out for another GK. Repeat.

Margetts with a perfect hat-trick in the first half. A header from around the penalty spot after a rush of blood by the 'keeper, rounded the 'keeper for his second and a left footer into the top bin for the third. Grimes sent off for kicking out at Woodyard.

Second half was particularly boring. I was expecting us to give it a right go but we didn't. I thought our first penalty as outside the area to be honest and the second was stonewall.

Bit of embarrassment on our part because we should have hit 7 or 8 this afternoon. Arnold missed a one-on-one in the first half but we cut Southport open 3 times in the first 5 minutes of the second half. It was all very slow, sideways and sloppy with silly flicks thrown in for good measure. Not enough forward passing or intent.

Much much better performance from us all over the pitch today. Chez Isaac and Jake Goodman started today and our midfield was much stronger as a result. Aldershot sprayed the ball around well from time to time but without a lot of impact and threat to our goal. Rendell looked a shade of his former self.

On the train back from Lime Street, I thought we did pretty well though I can't argue at Rovers winning. Definitely feel more comfortable about staying in this league if Tranmere are the cream of it. Terrific support from the travelling Stones too.

Can't complain with a 4-0 win, Southport were awful, arguably worse than North Ferriby. Can see them really struggling to stay up this season.

Alfreton 3-5 AFC Flyde

25 goals in our five league games so far! :bl:

We look absolutely electric going forward but cannot defend for shit unfortunately. Flyde are a quality side but we didnt put enough of a fight for some of their goals.

Danny Rowe hit 4 him and James Hardy were a class apart. Fylde look a seriously good side. Expect them to be well up there come the end of the season. We more than matched them first half though. Ryan Wilson was class along with mr Consistent Dan Bradley who scored his 5th of the season. Our defensive fraithities were there for all to see second half though. Dont think its a coincidence that the two games where Wes Harding has not featured we have lost 4-3 and 5-3.

Said it a million times we will beat the crap teams in this league and struggle against the better ones. Woking were poor for 10 mins and got punished.

We will do well to keep this up with such a small squad but it's a billion times better than the crap from the last 4 years.

If Carlsberg did away days.

I'll very much take that performance, held our own against a team I expected to give us a drubbing. If we'd had a little bit of luck in those last 5 minutes we could have taken a point as well, definitely starting to feel we've found our level now, could easily avoid a relegation battle if we continue to play like this.

You will be no where near the relegation zone

Thought we weren't actually that bad today, despite the scoreline.

Yep, basically that ^ although Dagenham's three goals all came in eight minutes. Conceded a soft one from a corner (shock) having actually had the better of the opening ten minutes in which we should have been ahead. Then Ben Gordon, who was absolutely terrible and substituted at half-time (stop laughing at the back Chester fans), got done by their winger and curled one into the top corner from about 20-yards. Gordon then gave away a needless penalty - it was saved but the rebound got put in.

We largely matched Dagenham and they started bricking it a bit when we got one back early in the second half. They'll do well to reach the play-offs.

Four changes and a formation change to the team today made us look a lot better.

Add Yakubu and DSY and we'll comfortably stay up.

Also, Paul Benson, lol. Must be about 76 now.

Just back. First half was all Tranmere, and any time Maidstone got the ball they quickly gave it back. Both teams looks leggy (understandable after so many games in quick succession), but we really ought to have gone in more than 1-0 up. It nearly bit us.

Second half continued with Tranmere on top, but Maidstone got a goal on the counter which unsettled us and galvanised Maidstone, who were suddenly a very different proposition. A far more even game ensued, with some sloppy mistakes as our legs got heavier and heavier, and it was somewhat fortunate that we scored a winner through McNulty the beast.

Connor Jennings was out of sorts today, which was a shame as he's had a really good few games, but Lois Maynard continues to be a revelation. He wasn't great last season and had a lot of detractors, but he's a different player this year - it's probably down to Brabin playing him in a more favoured position. Easily MOM.

Fair play to the Maidstone fans - the best we've seen in a long while, I hope you all have a safe trip back down south.

Two average sides playing out a boring 0-0 (barring maybe 2 good Wrexham chances in first half)

Snoozefest. Mills doesn't even do the exciting football anymore but it's pretty much like we thought with this group of players, we've improved the defence but there's just nothing up front. Curtis Tilt looked a class above again. We need a quality midfielder and a striker to be anywhere near the playoffs.

It was one of those games today where it looked like Tranmere would be made to pay for a glut of missed first half chances. Maidstone were pretty ordinary first half but matched Tranmere for much of the second period following a tactical change. Last season Maidstone would of gone on to win this game, so it's pleasing to see a mentally stronger Rovers team adapting to life in NL this time around.
Tremendous effort from the Maidstone supporters today too, don't think your team will be at the wrong end of the table this season.

I expected us to lose this afternoon, but I expected us to put up a bit of a fight. In 26 years of following us I have never walked out so early. Tranmere and FGR next, I never thought I'd say this but we need a point and to show that we can actually defend. Our only saving grace this season could be that there are some other woeful sides in this league.

You were certainly better second half but we still had the best chance of the half from grandad Benson good save from the keeper.

Hill has enough about him to keep you up but judging what your fans were saying at half time he might not get the time.

I like Southport, always a friendly club when I've been. But I can't see you getting anything from either of the aforementioned. Whenever we've played you previously, you've at least shown heart and character even in defeat - not even that today.

What on earth has happened to Ashley Grimes.

If we get close to the play offs, I'll be delighted. Good start but we have beaten the bottom 3 which mustn't be overlooked

On Tuesday he looked like he could be our saviour, today he was an oxygen thief. I have no time for anyone who won't work for their wage. We have a collection of cast-offs we were warned about, now we know why.

Lol, who was saying that? If the board ever managed to sack him they'd have a RIOT on their hands. If we get relegated, which we won't, I'd want Lord Hill managing us in Conference South. No one can do a better job here than him on our reduced budget.

I'd be interested to see if you still think that in a month's time should the trend continue.

We didn't win for three months last season.

Grimes was one we warned about, and with Ashton too, I'd have been very concerned to be a Southport fan.
If you're signing players that couldn't even get on the bench for an average Barrow side last season, there's not much hope.
Shame, because Southport is still our most local fixture, but it doesn't look like the manager has assembled a decent enough squad.
Almond was another who we chose not to sign because he wasn't consistent enough, and I'm guessing he still has those games where he doesn't even turn up?

Almond is good enough, no doubt about it. Ashton hasn't got the legs. I never doubt the opinion of Barrow fans, as much as you guys don't doubt ours. Good luck if Coughlin gets a game!
