La coda dello scorpione (The Case of the Scorpion's Tail) (1971)

Rich bloke dies when a plane explodes. His wife cashes in a million dollar life insurance policy. Then she is murdered. Numerous suspects. This was another excellent one. Great plot, stylishly shot and George Hilton!

Now StevenCC since you seem to plough through foreign films I have uploaded one onto youtube for you I want you to see if you like as I have had to get used to the culture of Czech films due to my Czech wife and this is one I want others to see....if they can put up with subtitles.

Its called 'Vrchni, Prchni!' Or in English Waiter....Scarper' or 'Run, Waiter, run' it is a 70's communist era run comedy with a plot of a sex mad man, broke as he has numerous kids from ex's to fund comes up with a ridiculous a scheme to make money.

The Legend Of Hercules (2014)
This was so bad it was funny. About 15 minutes in and Hercules had a fight with a lion that so clearly a stuffed toy at the end,it was almost as comical as in Samson And Delilah with Victor Mature in the 1960's  5/10 for the unintended laughs.

Cheers Dave - I've bookmarked it for a later viewing.

It gets a high mark on IMDB with an 8.2.

Star Wars : The Force Awakens [2015]

Was just in the the mood of SW last night after a few drams and had only seen this once, which is frankly scandalous being a big fan of the series. A bit forced at times still I felt, and a lot of box-ticking; but still a lot of fun, and I felt a pang of sadness every time I saw Carrie Fisher. Solo turned it from being a decent film, into a good one, and they should'nt have killed him off, but there we go.

La tarantola dal ventre nero (Black Belly of the Tarantula) (1971)

Victims are being killed by disembowelment while under the influence of a paralysing drug administered with an acupuncture needle. This was enjoyable but the plot was a little too convoluted to follow properly at times which stops me from giving it a higher rating.

The Nice Guys:
Fun and hi jinks starring Russell Crowe and Ryan Gosling as a couple of private eyes in 1970's Los Angeles looking to solve a mystery involving a missing girl, porn and cars. Great fun and snappy dialogue. 8/10

Snowden:
I thought it was a very good film and well worth a watch. Made better as it is based on a true story, a story that is still on going.

7 out of 10 for me.

Nude per l'assassino (Strip Nude for Your Killer) (1975)

A model dies while undergoing an abortion. The surgeon dies next. Then a string of murders at the modelling agency. Ultra-trashy with a simple plot and a lack of style/finesse but saved by a so-bad-it's-good script, unintentional moments of hilarity and Edwige Fenech.

The Founder (2017)

Biopic about how McDonalds came to be. Michael Keaton stars as the unlovable Ray Kroc and perfects the role brilliantly. Mildly interesting film from a business sense, but nothing to keep you on the edge of your seat. 7/10.

Le foto proibite di una signora per bene (Forbidden Photos of a Lady Above Suspicion) (1970)

A woman begins to suspect her husband of murder after a colleague of his is killed in suspicious circumstances. Very strong plot, intense and suspenseful throughout. Plenty of red herrings and some lovely scenes. Nieves Navarro's character was great, too.

Gods And Generals (2003)
Prequel to the 1993 classic Gettysburg (1993) This was mostly the story of what Lt General Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson did in The American Civil War. Not quite as good as the previous film but it was still a damn fine film with superb and brutal battle scenes. Jackson was played superbly by Stephen Lang. 8.5/10.

Il profumo della signora in nero (The Perfume of the Lady in Black) (1974)

A woman is haunted by a series of hallucinations related to the apparent suicide of her mother. The plot was a bit of a mess at times but it looked great. It was very, very similar in feel to the mid-70s Argento films that I have seen. Not my favourite style of giallo but very well done.

The Purge: Anarchy (2014)
Set in 2023 The Purge for 12 hours from when it gets dark means you can commit any crime legally in an annual event. I watched the first film which i found dull but a friend told recently to try this and i'm glad she did. The plot is a bit daft but there are some clever twists and plenty of violence. 7.5/10.

Il diavolo nel cervello (Devil in the Brain) (1972)

A child is locked away in a mental hospital after being accused of murdering his father. A doctor suspects that the boy didn't commit the crime and tries to get to the bottom of it. A truly great story. Really enthralling. This could have been a perfect film but the actual quality of the film was poor - at least the copy I had, which is a shame. I'm not sure if better quality copies exist but I know that it hasn't been released in English and it isn't out on blu-ray so I suppose they don't...

Sollima was a fantastic raging commie and his best movies were in the genres that could be bent most easily to his political will... westerns: Big Gun Down; Face to Face; Run, Man, Run; and his crimey/action movies: Revolver/Crime in the Streets and Violent City...

I have given up guessing which of these movies you will like or not, but you might like those, I reckon....

Una sull'altra (One on Top of the Other/Perversion Story) (1969)

The wife of a semi-famous doctor dies. The doctor is then told that he is the sole beneficiary of $2m, left to him in his deceased wife's will. He is then alerted to the presence of a woman who looks identical to his deceased wife - a stripper. The police recheck the corpse and decide that the doctor is guilty of murdering his wife for the insurance money and he is put on death row. Just before he is to be killed the doctor's brother (and colleague) reveals the truth to him. My favourite Fulci yet. Wonderful story, well shot, psychedelic music and scenes, sexiness, tension. The lot.

An Olympic runner joins The US Air Force at the start of WWII,his plane crashes into the sea and he is captured by the Japanese and sent to various POW camps. Thought this was too slow and dull as the subject has been done many times before but much better. 5.5/10.

La morte ha fatto l'uovo (Death Laid an Egg) (1968)

The film focuses on four main characters - three of whom work on a "high-tech chicken farm" (a husband and wife, and a younger co-worker) and one man who works in advertising. There are various love interests and connections between them.

This was a very peculiar film. I mean that as a compliment. The plot was coherent and relatively linear but it felt of secondary importance throughout the film. It was never nonsensical but at no point did it feel like the main part of the show. The images themselves and the numerous vague themes that pervaded the film were much more important. You had the main idea of morality vs biology - depicted both on the chicken farm itself with the "monstrous" headless/wingless chickens born through mutation as well as in the "room of truth" where all material objects were removed so that those locked inside could abandon all thoughts of objects and morality and focus only on their biological urges. Masks and masquerades were an important theme in the film, literally when a masquerade was being planned so the revellers could "be themselves" more easily and less obviously when it came to familial relationships and desires hidden behind closed doors, such as Marco's excursions to the the hotel to indulge in his...hobby.

The visuals in the film were very cold, clinical. You had scenes of completely white rooms spliced with images of whirring machinery. Scenes of scientific equipment and undefined liquids. Rows and rows of chicken cages.

The soundtrack was also strange. Again, positively. Most of it was discordant and completely out of sync with what was happening on screen. Incongruous passages of acoustic guitar, piano and strings. Very unsettling.

All in all it was fantastic, very surreal but well worth watching.

I thought it was an amazing film and acted out brilliantly.

Creed:
I thought that this was a very good film. A good 8/10 for me. I haven't seen any of the Rocky films (I know I know) but really enjoyed it and glad I finally got around to watching it.

It's a different film but no less entertaining. I saw Die Hard 2 before the first one weirdly and it's always been my favourite of the series as it introduced me to it.

Trainspotting (1996)

I finished reading the book in December and it was my choice in the weekly film and romance extravaganza night™ me and my missus put on so I nominated this one.

I did enjoy it a lot but I think watching it so soon after finishing the novel (which I loved) was always going to cause me to analyse it a little more harshly than I perhaps would have otherwise.

There isn't much to say about the cinematography, it was fine but nothing special. Boyle decided to make almost everything red!

In the novel, there were great moments at both ends of the scale - the grim parts were ridiculously dark while the humorous bits were hilarious. The film did have a fair share of good moments at both ends of the spectrum but none to the extent that the book did.
