I do not destroy lives. If somebody makes a decision to lose their monthly wage instead of paying their bills and feeding their kids then that is not my fault. There are very strict guidelines in place that help to spot problem gambling.

You are also forgetting that the recent boom in the industry is due to large numbers of 18-24's that have a decent amount of disposable income so can afford to lose X amount of money.

You can't hold anybody else accountable for a persons decision.

The FOBTs and virtual racing are a big part of why I can't be doing with betting shops any more, along with the corporatisation and the "leisure experience" that staff are forced to provide. I also dislike the "If the fun stops, stop" stuff plastered everywhere. I have never believed for a minute that they actually give a shit, a bit like the "drink responsibly" guff on booze packaging.

I preferred betting shops when smoking was not only allowed but obligatory. I also liked the the racing papers gradually going yellow whilst stuck to the wall with Blu tac. It's a shame they've gone all fancy, even the punters have mellowed. Less envious and malignant stares when some twat comes in with a big winner and more an air of quiet, vapid, soulless indifference.

Having worked in a betting shop, I can confirm that they spend hours upon hours of going over regulations about safe gambling and procedures to help problem gamblers. Whether they give a shit or not is another matter (I didn't really care either tbh) but they certainly hammer it into you.
