Leicester make 20mill bid for Deeney. Hmmm.

Huddersfield getting a lot of business done early which might be a good thing - gives their new players more time to settle and fit in rather than a mad rush at the end of the transfer window.

Newcastle and Brighton biding their time a bit more.

Newcastle better get on with it considering that Rafa wants 45 new signings.

Rooney to Everton seems pretty done.

Sentimentality playing a large part in that as I'm baffled as to what Everton hope to gain out of it. He'll be costing them a fair bit in wages (he's currently on between £250k and £300k a week depending on what source you believe) so even with a significant cut we're probably talking £150k a week. He slow and doesn't cut it. Simply not worth it.

Huddersfield keep the signings coming, with more on the way it seems. Some of them I know of and other's I've never heard of, but what's clear is they drew up a shopping list and have set out and got what they wanted early doors. Can't argue with that.

As for Rooney to Everton, surely he couldn't play with Barkley at the same time? That'd be a rather odd midfield. But they won't be paying those wages for Rooney to sit on the bench.

Patience is a virtue. Vardy was wank in his first season for us.
Would rather we go for Defrel for about 13mill than pay twice that for Deeney who I don't particularly rate but even if I did, like Slimani he doesn't fit very well. Sig is a better shout even at 40mill.

Does anyone know what the fee is supposed to be? I haven't heard anything, but I'd be interested to know how much Man Utd are paying Everton to take him.

Free transfer I've read. Still not worth it unless it's a pay as you play deal and Rooney wouldn't have agreed to leave a cushy £1m+ a month contract for that, even to play for his boyhood club.

These kind of deals are usually structured the same way. United pay a certain percentage of Rooney's current wage until the contract is out, maybe a fourth or so. Everton agree a separate contract regardless of this. The sum between the clubs will probably be a case of performance, clauses on 10-20-30 goals etc, and again 10-20-30 appearances. They're structured like this to minimize the risk for both parties and it's very much a blueprint.

I thought that was because Vardy was being played out of position? I don't share your optimism with Slimani, I think Deeney's all round contribution is superior (underrated as an assist contributor, he was feeding Ighalo goals a couple of seasons ago) and we know he has adapted to the Premier League. Given that they are the same age, I would prefer Deeney as a partner to Vardy or someone you can throw on at the end of games to make an impact. If you can offload Slimani back to Portugal, decent piece of business in my view, though at potentially £20 million for Deeney there probably is a more exciting unproven alternative.

They really are taking their time here. Not the start Rafa will want. Looks like fat puker Ashley is playing up again now they are back in the big time.

Someone beat me to it. Take the rose tinted glasses off Saltire. Given the CL we have to offer, our summer window so far has been shit.

He was, but he was well off it when he started out with us. Many people wanted him gone after his first season.
And I have no optimism with Slimbob. I'm just saying that people (not you) are quick to judge. He's been injured a fair bit this season and people expect every player to just drop into the teams and bang in the goals from the off, which is unfair. Mendy who played the first half against Arsenal and spent the rest of the season injured has been called shit by a number of fans, despite only playing 45 minutes of a 0-0 early in the season. Written off due to not being able to play.
As for Deeney, I said it before, his goals record is pretty pish. So many pens and only one goal against a side not in the bottom 5. What we are looking for is someone to share the burden of goals with Vardy, not someone to assist him, if that makes sense. Gylf would be the preferred man for the job of sitting behind Vardy but I dont know if we'll go to 40mill, which is what Swansea want. And he may not be interested anyway.

Looks like izzy brown probably going back to Huddersfield.

Loan to Brighton now instead of a full deal to Huddersfield. Apparently they aren't happy with us having a buy back clause

I'd say it's on par. Salah is the best player we've bought since Torres on current ability imo, so there's that. Suarez is the obvious other candidate but he was incredibly frustrating before something happened with his finishing in 2012 and he just went from Luis Garcia-esque to the best striker in the world.

Solanke I don't think will ever get to double digits in the appearances column for us, but it is looking increasingly likely that we will sign Keita, who'd improve our central midfield immensely. Wijnaldum has many qualities but Keita is twice the player in every aspect.

Simply, if we sign no more then yeah, shit window. But if we sign Keita we've already made this one of the better windows in recent memory imo, not that it says very much to be fair.

Par in comparison to Liverpool windows in general? I agree, but that isn't much to shout about. Par in comparison to what we need to be doing? No, I don't agree. We need at least two defenders and I'd like to think that Klopp realises Mignolet isn't good enough for where he wants us heading. Unfortunately, quality keepers are scarce. We should have beaten Everton for Pickford who is a better keeper now, never mind potentially. I've no doubt given the option he'd have chosen us.

Yup. But it doesn't stop deals being agreed pending it officially opening.

No, par on expectations, our windows have been horrible. I mean, we sign Salah and Keita without selling anyone we'd want to keep, which window in the past 10 years has been better?

We finished fourth last season and we had long-term injuries and absences to every one of our key players bar Firmino. We seemingly want to add one clear improvement to each part of the team, and I believe that will take us forward (the past two times we finished in the top four, we went miles backwards). No, Milner isn't a long term left back and yes, Mignolet will make a few horrible mistakes. That said, Rome wasn't built in a day but it does burn down in a night (summer 2014), we're coming back off our second most successful league campaign in the past eight years, we don't need to rebuild the whole squad this summer. If we add three clear improvements to the starting XI, as seems the objective, we'd have done better than I for one would have dared to hope for.

I think we'll get an LB and possibly Keita. It doesn't look as though Klopp is particularly worried about a keeper. Is Ward going on loan again?

I'm not convinced he was one of the usual "one for the future" (i.e rot for two years than sell to lower league) players. I would have thought he was promised games before he signed. Not saying he'll be a regular but think he could surprise...

We ended up being fortunate to finish 4th if you ask me, thanks in large part due to a lack of fixtures in other competitions. We hopefully won't have that benefit this coming season. Couple that with further improvements from other teams that fell short last season and in this coming campaign it won't be as easy to bag a CL spot. In short, I don't believe the improvements currently being proposed are going to be enough. We need to step it up.

We should all probably make it until at least August before we start bemoaning our club's transfer dealings (we've only managed Willy Caballero on a free thus far)! That said, I think it might be quite an underwhelming summer for many. Difficult to find much value in the market at present with some stupid prices being touted for relatively ordinary players.

Also picked up from kids (I think all either 15 or 16?) from Rangers, Ajax, Exeter and some French club

Not that any will ever play for the first team regularly like.
