Salah is a good player.

I'm not saying otherwise, I just expected them to be after a higher caliber of player this time around.

Salah is fine, Keita is highly rated and Werner is an exciting prospect. Van Dijk is quality but looking like heading elsewhere. The other players they've been rumoured to be after are Sessegnon and Robertson and Solanke is either done or close to done.

As far as shortlists go it is solid but hardly ambitious and it doesn't represent a step up from the type of player they were targeting prior to finishing in the top four.

Perhaps Klopp is happy with his first XI and is only going to tweak it slightly and then augment the squad with some depth signings.

Is it just me or are the players Liverpool are being linked with so far seriously underwhelming?
Salah's numbers this last season are among the best in the world. To put that into perspective, Griezmann whom we both rate got 16 goals and 8 assists in 36 league starts (that's actually not very good to be fair). Salah got 15 goals and 11 assists, in 20% less time on the pitch (29 starts, 2 subs) while playing predominantly on the wing. Oh, and the latter will cost significantly less.

With that said, the Serie A isn't the well drilled defensive league it is known to be amongst those who never watch it. Dzeko got 29 goals this season, for example. But then again, Iago Aspas scored once every 120 minutes in La Liga (how fucked up is that?).

Now stats don't tell the whole picture (Salah isn't a better player than Griezmann) but for attacking players they say a whole lot more than nothing. Considering the two seasons he's had for Roma he's criminally underrated here. In addition, our signings are usually very very underwhelming but I'm struggling to see how you can't get excited about Salah. He's exactly what we need, he's quality and we can afford him. And I usually play down our signings a lot, I can't remember the last time I was genuinely excited about a player we're linked with. We usually go for overpriced average, last season I was underwhelmed by every single signing we made. Salah is just quality.

The only thing I'm slightly worried about is that he really isn't much of a passer from what I've seen (which over the past two seasons isn't more than 10ish matches), he likes to get behind the defense and cut back. He's a final pass/goal kind of player but seems to struggle at times in the build up. But if he can average anywhere near his numbers for Roma while he's here, who gives a fuck.

He plays on the right of a front 3, so the same as Mane. So who goes where?

Mané on the left I'd guess, he's played there just as much as he's played on the right through his career and I can't see it mattering that much. Also, we play our starting eleven about three times per season so Mané should get his fair share on the right as well.

Last season we improved each part of the team with one player (Matip, Wijnaldum, Mané) and that seems to be the target this year as well (van Dijk, Keita, Salah). I think our ideal starting eleven is aimed at something like this:

Mignolet; Clyne, Matip, van Dijk, Milner; Henderson, Keita, Coutinho; Salah, Firmino, Mané.

Coutinho playing in the midfield has been hinted by Klopp as well. But like I said, starting elevens and Klopp don't exactly go hand in hand.

Not sure van Dijk is still in the mix. Is the Keita rumours still going strong?

We surely can't be going into another season with Milner as starting LB.

Also, were we to sign Salah, the next AFCON would be even more of a ballache.

Perhaps I'm judging Salah too harshly from his (brief) time in the Premier League. It wouldn't be the first time a Jose didn't fancy a player with that player later going on to prove him wrong. I haven't seen much of him with Roma, though his stats look good.

We'll see how he does if you do sign him.

I'm not very excited about Perisic either, can you get me excited about him?

I could but I'm not sure it'll ease the blow of not getting Griezmann.

Man City have reportedly had a 40m bid accepted for Ederson.

I don't think we would have a chance of landing Van Dijk, Keita and Salah without CL. Even with CL it is struggle. Sessegnon is going to Spurs, so we will be getting Robertson (now that is an underwhelming signing!).

With regards to Salah, he is exactly what we need. Especially after Klopp's plan to play Coutinho centrally.

Assalamu alaikum, brother.

I'm being outnumbered on Salah here so I'll bow to your collective knowledge.

Mane was a monster on the right, do you reckon he can be as effective from the left or will Salah play there?

Mualaikumsalam, brother.

My knowledge of Salah is probably same as yours. His time at Chelsea wasn't memorable, mainly due to the not having chances under Mou. Even when he did, his end product was fking shit. Now just looking at his stats for Roma, it seems he has improved that aspect of his game.

I think Salah will play on the right and Mane on the left (he has played there before a lot). But Klopp turned James Milner into a fucking LB so he could play anywhere and be as effective! And our front 3 interchanges their position throughout the game so it probably won't matter much.

But first, lets wait and see whether we actually fucking sign him. Won't be surprised if he joins Arsenal.

Watched a lot of Series A this year particularly Roma and Juve, and Salah has improved a lot. He's dangerous on almost every attack, gets at players and is scoring goals and creating chances. Would be delighted to get him as he would add even more goals to the side.

Disappointed about Sessegnon, but he will be good for Spurs by all accounts.

Klopp seems to be happy enough with the core of Liverpool's side and is looking to bolster quality in certain areas in the first team and also raising the youth sides levels too so that in a few years some of those will be ready to come in like he did at Dortmund.

I'm happy enough with the players being linked as he has a very good rate at finding gems no matter if they are known or not. Dortmund picked up Kagawa from the Japanese 2nd division ffs! :D

He's looking to raise our base level and fill out the squad and I think he'll do that fine even if we know who half of them are or not.

Was dreaming of a fluid foward line of Rashford, Griezmann, Martial/Mbappe, Mkhitaryan. United want to sign a striker because of Ibrahimovic's long term injury, but I think Griezmann alongside those mentioned above would have more than made up for Ibrahimovic's loss. Surely this means United are looking at Mbappe or Lukaku? I will be gutted if another club activates Griezmann's release clause now.

Not bothered if they get Griezmann or not, they got Zlatan who came in and did a fine job but it never got them anyplace in the league. Hopefully De Gea and Hazard go to Real to significantly weaken Utd and Chelsea. ;)

Considering our attack was dull last season, I find it very hard to believe that we'd suddenly drop interest in someone who came 3rd behind Ronaldo and Messi for the Ballon d'Or last year.

So he finally nails his colours to the mast and admits he supports Liverpool more than he supports Barca.

Now we need to wade through all the other clubs...

Now you're blatantly trying to find a downside mate.

You do know that I post on here and other sites mostly about Liverpool when it comes to football so I thought it would be obvious by now. :hypo:

Who are you backing in the election friend?
Theresa May with less than expected, not quite achieving the crowning she hoped (and surely was advised) it would be. Corbyn is a nice bloke and is doing well compared to the liberals but he's not the one you want in Brussels and that won't change.

Contado en @partidazocope Griezmann habló hoy con el United para explicarle que tras la decisión del TAS no puede dejar tirado al Atleti.

"Griezmann spoke today with United to explain that following the decision of the TAS can't leave pulled to the Atleti."

So he doesn't want to leave because of Atletico's transfer ban. What a loyal bellend.

Oh well, at least it's been cleared up quickly. I'd rather we sign Lukaku or Belotti than Morata.

At least that's been settled quick and hasn't dragged on forever, Lukaku is definitely a Mourinho striker he might be the next on the list.
