Quite a lot of strikers/wingers are considered as one and the same, a lot of players have to play wide, to suit team shape, but are in the team because they possess either pace or can get a goal if asked to go central. I believe we were thinking of Arnold in this way.

We have Yemi Odubade, who i don't think we really know (even after being with us for 3 years) whether he is a striker or a winger and we play him in both positions. Moses Ademola (or Moses Emmanuel as he now calls himself) was another one, we signed him as a striker, played him as a winger, found he was shit in that role so sold him to Bromley, where they played him as a striker and he banged in goals for fun!
I suspect if we had signed Arnold, then Yemi would probably have gone to make way for him as that type of player.
I'm sure most clubs have a player or two, who can be considered for both roles.

Slightly but not completely unrelated, we signed Nathaniel Knight-Percival from Histon, who we played as a striker and winger as to your point.

Anyway long story short, it turned out he was a centre half.

Most clubs, including us big spenders, will have the majority of players on £600-700, so its no different. The only difference is that out top earners, lets say 6 players from our current squad of 24, will be earning the big very dough and equally there are 6 players in our 24, who are on just £100 a week (academy players who are signed as first team players). Our top earner is probably on £500-1000 more than the top earners at other reportedly big spending clubs. Silly money for this level, but its balanced out with the low earners & will be worth it, as i'm certain that he will leave us for decent money next year.
If truth be told, as an example, so what if one club pays their top man £2000 versus another club paying their top man £1500. Now if every player was on £2k, then yeh you can say its a club paying way over the odds, but i strongly suspect there are 6 clubs who have similar high end budgets and there will be 6 clubs who have very low budgets, the rest will be fairly equal. You get that in every division in every country where football is played. Not sure why people moan about it. Its just a fact of life and a fact of football, that if clubs can afford to pay more for better players, then they will.
That's what our top earners get, (£700) most of players get a couple hundred less basic.

If that's true (Arnold aside...), then that's reflected in your league position these last few seasons.
A mid table side, paying mid table wages for this league.
tbf, It fits with what i know about Stanley, as he was on around 700 for us.

Maybe they will still have a club in 5 years time though. I can't see that you will.

Basically. We've been pretty average at most things since we've been down here (bar our mid-season budget SLASH in our first season down here).

The top basic is £700 but the players can boost their wages with bonuses etc so if we're doing well they get more like most players I guess.
Our total playing budget is between 600-700k, we currently have a squad of 24.

Alex Finney on a season loan from Bolton. Looks like he's quite a highly-rated centre back.

I don't understand these people either, keep on saying our clubs are going to die yet they seem to be getting stronger and stronger on and off the field.. As the "real clubs" seem to be the ones dying...

I'd just be mindful of clubs like Rushden and Diamonds. Got all the way up to league One before Max Griggs pulled his money and they ended up folding.

FGR will only remain in business at the current level they are at while Dale Vince is in charge. If he pulls his money and there is no one there to replace him, FGR will fold.

You can say that about any club.
At Eastleigh although we do have a "moneyman" who heads the club, we also have several other multi-millionaries who are also involved.
The likes of Lincoln, Wrexham etc wont be any different.
Prospective new investors/owners of football clubs, arent bothered about a clubs history, they are only concerned with a clubs future and their current prospects, raising their profiles & the mid/longterm earning potential of the club. If it was all about history, the Arabs who bought Man City would have bought Man Utd, the people who are throwing money into Bournemouth would have bought Liverpool, Roman Abramovic would have bought Arsenal not Chelsea & our very own Steward Donald would have brought Oxford Utd, not Eastleigh. But all of those saw potential in these comparatively smaller clubs with less history and success in the last 50 years & all have done quite well i would say...none of them ducking out when the going got tough. I remember when Abramovic came in, everyone said he would never stay and that Chelsea was just his play thing. Well 13 years on he's still there and still goes to pretty much every game.

We were at this level for 12 years, were full time and built our current stadium all without Dale Vince in charge.

If he ever did pull out we'd have to cut our cloth accordingly, the hope would be that we'd have grown enough by then to be able to sustain a professional football club without needing a multi-millionaire backer. At the very worst we could quite easily go back to being a part time bottom half National League/top half National South side.

The most important thing would be to retain ownership of our stadium, which I think we would.

You've gone pop once, so you have more chance of going pop again than we do. But of course you'll deflect the troubles of your own club and just whinge about those doing well. We'll wave you goodbye soon.

Pop as in fallen into non league from your heady heights.
A fan owned club in the 5th tier because you were previously poorly run.
Not much for you to shout about, so whinge about Eastleigh FGR Barrow etc.
