Mourihno is now favourite to become next United's manager.
Great decision if they are aiming to copy their neighbour's success.

Spending a billion quid for two league titles and being a laughing stock in Europe? I think Mourinho could do better than that.

A lot seem to be suggesting Van Gaal should be given until after the Christmas fixtures. Why? We're clearly not improving, why should he be given more time over arguably the most important period of fixtures. We've lost to Bournemouth and Norwich already.

Chelsea will be rejuvenated and Stoke aren't easy.

Because football performance isn't linear.

We've been consistently poor for a long time now. Results have been keeping the pressure off Van Gaal up until now. The brand of football has been pathetic. De Gea, Smalling and Martial have been the only players playing to an acceptable level. Van Gaal persists with Rooney despite him offering nothing all season. There was nothing positive other than our defensive record. Even that is going to bits now.

I'm of the opinion that there's no where near enough pressure on the top managers in English football. It's like the positive mindset shift regarding development that has happened around youth football has somehow infected the top of the game. The idea that Chelsea sack managers on a whim is only true relative to the rest of English football. Compared to top teams on the continent the way they operate is really not particularly unusual. It's like in the aftermath of the SAF reign people are holding that up as an ideal, when in reality he was the exception to the rule. I mean, Manchester United fans tolerating three years of transition? What the fuck is that about? You think any other massive club would take that? No chance. These managers should be under constant pressure to innovate, and fight and claw for every point. They should be analysing opposition to death and doing all they can through the week for that 1% edge. Wenger has been stealing a living for years and Mourinho should have gone weeks ago. Van Gaal is no different. If I were a United fan I would not be disappointed if he was sacked tomorrow with someone like Rodgers installed as interim manager. The club is becoming a joke at the moment, and the top end of English football in general. The cash is making them all too secure at the top end and not ready to go that extra yard to make themselves super clubs, which the money in England should more than allow for.

Sick of the excuses! Van Gaal has had enough time, money and support of the fans. It's remarkable that the fans haven't turned on him before now and he most certainly would not have got away with this at Barca, Bayern and Real.

He has the same answer to everything, we must follow the philosophy, we created a lot of chances, we were the better team. Yada Yada Ya. It's clear that he cannot get to grips with the premier league and his style is not suited to the premier league. It's not that possession football is the problem, the problem is possession without any cutting edge. Players seem afraid to lose the ball and to win games risks must be taken. We have spent all this money in last few years and still do not have a world class attacker.

I'd see how things go now for the Christmas period, if we are not getting better results. Giggs should be put back in caretaker charge until end of season. If he does remarkably well then keep him permenantly, if not we should move heaven and earth to get Guardiola. However I can see Man City beating us to his signature because we have a useless CEO.

Too bad Gary Neville buggered of to Valencia. He would have jumped at the chance.

You are all mental if you'd prefer Neville or Giggs over Rodgers. They only have slightly more managerial experience than you do.

Do agree generally with what EG said in the post further up, but with...

If I were a United fan I would not be disappointed if he was sacked tomorrow with someone like Rodgers installed as interim manager.

Transition is tolerable so long as progress is a constant and this has been the case up until a mediocre October and poor November. The football may have not been aesthetically pleasing but it's always felt a couple of creative pacey ball carrying players away from completing the puzzle.

The point of possession football is not slowly building from the back stringing together 200 passes before a striker is put through on goal, contrary to what premier league 'traditionalists' like to portray of the apparently incompatible philosophy. Total Football can be very attacking, Barcelona and Bayern being prime examples but it's down to the manager in how it's executed and this seems to be LVG's problem area. His time with the Netherlands has him totally fixated on a defensive system with one player on the right given the 'Robben role' who's supposed to score and provide. That player has so far been Mata, who has no pace, can't carry the ball and goes missing in games far too often. It's no coincidence that when the player on the right is not influencing the game we do the square root of fuckal.

Shaw's injury affected our attacking output massively too as him and Memphis combining on the left was LVG's only other plan. Teams just double up on Memphis or whoever's there and that is that. We're then left with lots and lots of crossing, which apparently we're incredibly shit at too for a team often built around Fellaini. Fucking Fellaini. :ffs: (edit; to add to this paragraph, the central two players of the front four mostly included a disabled Rooney. yay)

The point i'm getting at, is that there is nothing inherently wrong with our style of football. LVG is just incapable of getting the best out of the front four players we have and (unable to stop tea bagging Roo's scouse genitals) considering that he's had three transfer windows it is ultimately his own fault. I can't at this point see him 'getting it' anytime soon, which is lovely seeing as I expect him to remain until the summer. All we have now to look towards is a top four finish and a run in the FA cup anyway, no need to bring in all the bollocks that comes with mid season managerial changes. Especially if the only alternative is Mourinho. Would much rather we re-evaluate options in the summer.

I couldn't disagree more, everything about Manchester United's style of football is inherently wrong.

The journalists most closely associated with United say van Gaal's gone if he loses to Stoke and that Pep will be sought with Giggs taking over the rest of the season or Mourinho. Why wait?

If you can get Pep then LvG is gone anyway pretty much regardless of what he does hereon in, but then there's no need to sack him before the end of the season.

That would be the tricky bit, I think I'd rather LVG than Giggs. Although...

I think Woodward should hire someone to oversee the footballing side of United. Too many situations where the club looks amateurish and is embarrassed in public. We've look foolish ever since Fergie and Gill left.

I don't think you can complain about being embarrassed in public if you want Mourinho..

Mourinho is no worse than Ferguson. You can get away with it if you're a winner.

Depends what you mean by 'get away with it'. You didn't hire JoMo in 2013 because of his abysmal behaviour (according to some reports).

It wasn't the sole reason but according to reports it certainly seemed like one of em. It was more about the appointee being able to provide longevity (as lol as it may have proved to be) and the stability that brings, saink Mou hasn't demonstrated he's capable of to date. Though it's ovvi clear that has become a rarity in modern football especially due to the increasingly cut throat 'what have you done for me lately' nature of current results (and money) driven times.
