Well im not looking forward to it as much now. Since we got safe I was hoping Hartlepool would have something to play for to make it interesting.

Now we're both safe it's going to be nothing more than an end of season kick about. Hartlepool can't catch us so it's not as if we even have league positions to play for.

I would much rather this be the case than us playing to stay up!! We tend to flap big games.

A couple of weeks ago I'd have taken this scenario, but since we've been safe I've been hoping the game would still mean something to you to make it interesting.

Oh well we can now just turn it into a safety party.

Should be a great Party atmosphere. Enjoy it guys and take deep breath. You both made it with a game ( and more ) to spare. Well done. The character I saw that Carlisle showed to get a draw ( nearly a victory ) at our place, for me showed there was more than enough to stay up. Hartlepool should have beat us when we won 1 0 at Victoria too.

I imagine a good crowd still, despite been a dead rubber.

I'm guessing your like us with players out of contract, you should see some effort from a few players, can't speak for your lot, but I'd like to see some of our fringe players start and the old failures dropped, but I suppose they are entitled to a wave goodbye after digging us out of the hole they dropped us in

We don't have as many out of contract as we did last season, just a handful really. Not many playing for contracts if you rule out Robson, Gillies and Symington who have been on loan and are highly unlikely to get new contracts. Of those looking for new contracts Elliot and Amoo are injured so that just leaves Buddle, O'Hanlon and Asamoah (who might also be injured) looking to play their ways to a new contract. Potts and Gillespie have been offered new contracts already.

Forget this game for just now, we play Wetherall in the Cumberland Cup Final tonight

Very strong team. Amoo must be fit as he starts, as does Meppen Walter. Dicker and Kearns return to the team, Sweeney back from injury and Griffith might find his level tonight.

Couple of the fringe players given a run out tonight, hopefully Curle isn't judging them based on how they play tonight

Not that anyone gives a fuck about our county cup adventures, but this is our only shot at glory this season.:milk:

Conor Hammell not even on the bench tonight suggests he might play on Saturday? I hope so, last time I saw him was in a pretty heavy loss IIRC so let's give him a go in a match where we're favourites.

Yeah but it's only on BBC Scotland. Rumour going round that Hugill is co-presenting it too, but he might be on his way to sign a pre contract agreement with Real Madrid :2thumb:
Let's see what you think of him after Saturday , notice how strong he is and how many headers he wins, he may not be Real Madrid quality , but he is a cut above our level , we would be very lucky to sign him, if we did it would be down to Ronnies charm

I see, I can't believe he got a 2 year deal after his last season with us.. I'm sure one of our ball boys is related to him, looks like a mini version

Agreed, he had gone so stale it was unreal. Maybe a fresh challenge is what he needed. Not sure what he's been like for Carlisle?

He's been mostly poor, but has had the odd decent game. You can never fault his effort, always puts a shift in.

He was actually doing well at one stage and then he ran into a post assisting Wyke's goal a month or so ago and has been injured ever since.

Maybe Sweeney is playing right back? Seem to remember some of our fans saying he could do a shift there, maybe Curle will try him in that position next season if he is any good considering we still need someone to play there.

3-1 Carlisle at Half Time, if anyone's interested.

We're gonna be playing 3-5-2 next season I think Curle's said, Sweeney certainly doesn't fit the wing back role as he barely has any pace. No actually sure where he fits in any more because Dempsey, Kennedy and Dicker ought to have the centre mid spots locked down. Not the type of player we want to be starting if we're going for promotion, but he could make a versatile squad player which is handy.

Definitely not the standard we should be looking at, but since we have him for another year we might as well make some use out of him.

Can't see it being like a friendly, both teams will want to finish the season with a win.

Yeah, after defeat at Stevenage, Curle has made it clear that any player who goes into any game not caring about the result isn't the sort of player he wants in his side, so I think he'll certainly be assessing them on their attitude and overall performance.

He played right back loads of times in league one for us, and pretty good at it he was, as long as he was just right backing and not wing backing , defiantly worth a place on the bench for his utilityness

Think it's time for some predictions.

I'm going 3-1 United.

Dempsey, Rigg and Paynter with the goals. Hugill (obviously) with the pools goal.

Oddly enough we had another former Hartlepool player with a surname ending in Sweeney at right-back for part of last season.

I'm referring to Leon McSweeney of course.

He wasn't too bad for us in League 1. Good squad player, just a little light weight at times.

Hugill late consolation, or an early lead.
