Baffling. I was joking, I didn't think even you could think he's good at defending.
He's not at Clyne's level of defensive capability, but I tell you what, he isn't bad at all at it and for his first full season, with the expectation put on him and Gomez in that position, I'd say he's excelled.

Has anybody seen Silkyman tonight?

He is usually posts seconds after the final whistle in these threads.

Very strange.

There seems to be more coverage about the bus incident this morning rather than the match. Great, a small section of dickwad fans spoil the occasion and take the shine off a great win. Tossers.

Opposing the pedestrianisation of Norwich city centre!!!!
Was Guardiola's only tactic for this game to target Alexander Arnold? So one dimensional. :conf:
Ironic given that he was motm in my opinion, he had Sane in his back pocket all night. Milner and Henderson were also outstanding. The tie is by no means over but if Liverpool get the away goal I can't see them losing it.

Stunning first half last night from Liverpool. That was probably the best 45minutes of football I've ever seen

I'm more impressed with how they defended in the second half than what they did in the first half. They're going to need to have to defend like that all the way to the final now if they're to get there.

Welcome to the media in this country.

A negative, controversial story sells far more.

Liverpool were superb in the first half. Great energy, the way I like to see the game played.

The tie is not over yet but that won't have stopped Silkyman shitting himself. The man will have had a face like thunder throughout the game. He didn't start supporting City in 2011 for nights like that. It was supposed to boost his self esteem and make him happy.

Front three is the best in Europe and were so today again. Ta-ra. Still not confident that we're through.

And the hyperbole starts, how many trophies between this front three?

How many times have they beaten top class European opposition? That would be once, to a domestic opponent, who has no pedigree in the CL.

Despite last night, think Man City would have had a much better chance of doing well in the semis than Liverpool. As it is, Bayern, Barca and Real will all be desperate to get Liverpool - and will almost certainly triumph against them.

Still, one English side in the semis is an achievement.

Good old Hugh, he just can't help himself. To the point where anti-English footballing shit simply has to be spewed. Seriously, as if any side would have watched the first half last night and be 'desperate' to meet us.

It was a very impressive first half.

However, relative to the competition Liverpool are clearly the least experienced side remaining.

Will they blow other vastly more experienced sides out the water? It's possible but less likely.

The 4 ties are decided, Bayern, Barcelona and Real put down their own marker with impressive first legs. Liverpool will be the interlopers this year as Juventus and Atletico have been in recent years.

However, Liverpool had a middling group stage drawing twice with Sevilla and once with Spartak Moscow before brushing past an awful Porto side. They beat Man City comfortably, and surprisingly, but these are domestic opponents with little European pedigree. It wasn't as if they hammered Real.

I'll pose the question to yourself - do you think the other teams will view Liverpool as the weakest opponent or not?

In the CL semi final, all teams are excellent and Liverpool are certainly dangerous. But there is a hierarchy and their lack of experience puts them at the bottom of it.

It's nights like last night which remind me why I hate Liverpool.

To a man, their fans are fucking unbearable, they make United fans seem sound.

What a great joy this first half was. Kudos and thank you for it, Reds!

In the German TV and Press you can read now often the comparison in direct duels between Jürgen and Pep. And actually it's 7 wins out of 13 matches for Jürgen. Seems that he's a bit of a nemesis for Pep.

I already mentioned that Gündogan and Sané played shite for the National team against Brazil and that this shows why they aren't normally in the starting lineup but I was astonished to see the same shite from both of them yesterday.

Anyway, great evening, great result. Hope that the Reds will hold this lead in the 2nd leg (it's not really an away game, is it? ;) )

Pep should better bow out now against an English team. In the semi final Real and Barca are waiting. And he lost all of his last 3 semi finals against Spanish teams. So...piss off then in the quarter finals ;)

Indeed, they will quite clearly be fourth favourites.

Think Pagnell jumped the gun on his earlier post.

Nobody will be desperate to be get Liverpool. Their pressing from the front is superb and most European sides like to build up from the back (particularly Barcelona).

I do stress that Liverpool aren't through yet though, City are a good side. Liverpool need to go with attutude of being on the front foot next week, that's what they're good at. Going off Jurgen Klopp's post match interview, he didn't want his team that deep second half yesterday. They were praised for good defending second half and rightly, but I don't think that was the plan or what they're most adept at. Salah going off perhaps made an impact on that.

If City had got just one (away) goal back last night, I would have made them favourites to go through. Keeping the clean sheet was as big as any goal for Liverpool. At this point they'll have enough, and chances will be there for them on the counter.

Ok mate which current front three in Europe would you have above them?

Keep in mind I'm not English, so you won't sneeze if you happen to agree with me, and it is on current form we're talking.

Surely

Ronaldo - Benzema - Isco/ Bale?

I'd prefer Man City's forward options as well tbh with the exception of Salah in current form.

But as an alternative to Bayern, Real or Barca?

Simple, I think each of those teams would most like to have Liverpool - the AS Monaco of this year. Are they good? Clearly, but they lack CP experience, had a middling group stage and haven't been any big hitters from outside England (and even their English opponents were CP minnows).

They are, by some distance, the 'weakest' team in the semi final and all the other three will want to draw them.

What is the metric you are using to compare them, and why does it have to be a front three rather than just an attack? How do you define 4-3-3 anyway?

In terms of the ability of the players, I'd have the the Barcelona, Real Madrid, PSG, Man City and Bayern attack ahead of them.

I'll wait till Mane, Salah and Firmnio actually achieve something before rating them on a par with those above. Certainly, their careers so far are no match for their competitors.

Correct, Salah is an outstanding player having a great season. But Mane and Firmino comparable to Isco, Lewandowski or Neymar? Clearly not.

Absolutely Johnny. A combination of Everton as a club and Allardyce as a manager. To be frank, any team should be fucking embarrassed.

I saw Liverpool - Manchester City.

I have to admit, I'm surprised. Liverpool game was excellent, even defensively. He granted something as normal as it is, no more.

the intensity of the game and the application of all the players was fantastic.

I think and I hope he can pass the turn. And then that can take out those teams that are making the Champions League a monologue. All football Europe needs Liverpool FC now.
