Predictable boring shite for us. Winnable but you’d expect our luck against higher league opposition will run out eventually.

Would be nice to just pull out a decent tie for once, just for once.

But it’s at home and winnable.

Can’t imagine vale will be particularly excited

Well Mansfield have already beaten a League one side .

And a Championship side in Wednesday.

We generally do well against higher cup opposition with Clough, beat Sunderland at the Stadium of Light two years on trot in FA Cup.

It’s a good draw in that it’s winnable (for both sides) but the loser in the tie will feel pretty deflated by it all.

We’ve a decent footballing side this season and playing our best football in a couple of decades but have got through despite making 8/9 changes so far and won’t get away with that here, hopefully with it being FA Cup the weekend after Crosby will avoid making the changes.

I’d have preferred Exeter to Vale. They’re doing well in League One after a quick glance at the table, I hope our luck is still in and as Conker says we’ve got a good record against opposition from higher leagues under Clough. 1 Championship, 3 League one I think now.

It’s obviously a great change and the best we’ll ever get of reaching the last 8 of the league cup but it’s not even a tie that’ll get on the box. The pizza trophy will be more lucrative this season than the league cup at this rate.

Well given you won a pretty big prize last time round it would only be fair for you to allow us a consolation prize, we are friends after all.

Sounding ungrateful i didn’t realise the prize money for the league cup was so crap

Pretty sure Clough himself will be happy enough with it just because it’s a home game.

I just fear even if we get through we won’t get a money tie, because that’s what it’s all about for us and Vale now really.

It is, we played Crewe in round 2 then a week later in the pizza cup and made more from winning the pizza cup tie financially in prize money.

It’s a proper 50-50 with you being at home.

We’ve had a weird season, no one expected much and lost the opener 7-0 but have lost 1 in 12 since (and that was probably the most dominant game we’ve had!) Crosby has changed our style post DC and oddly for us we’ve made some loan signings that have worked out to be really good. (Alfie Devine and Oli Arblaster who is probably the best player I’ve seen down Vale in 20 years).

We are susceptible to crosses into the box though and for the quality we do have in midfield we are not overly clinical so do give up chances.

Whether we keep up the form time will tell but for all the improvements we’ve made all our wins are by the odd goal so are not blowing teams away.

Hey, we are doing pretty well in League One too! Glad we avoided you though, even Middlesbrough at home is a better draw for us

Jones, Given and the lass trying not to piss themselves laughing at Mansfield and Port Vale getting each other was far more entertaining than I imagine Newcastle v Man City was.

It is what it is.

It's winnable and we'll be favourites but that's as far as it goes. Mansfield are no mugs, are on a great unbeaten start and will be a tough nut to crack, especially at home. We've had their number in our last two meetings but our record there is shite. I've seen us draw 1-1 twice and lose the other.

My lad will be happy as it's another new ground for him and he's always said he likes Mansfield after Wembley (he's only just turned 7). Always liked Mansfield me. Decent supporters and a generally decent away day. Probably highlighted more by the fact I can't stand Chesterfield and their mongy fans but that's for another day.

Looking forward to it myself. I'm off that week as I've got half term off with my lad so let's hope it's a decent game. If it goes to pens, we've won. Super Connor Ripley in goalssss. 7 penalties faced this season and conceded 1.

The thing is, (at least according to the bookies) you won’t be favourites. Peterborough werent.

Either way, it’ll be a close game, the winner will get a great tie (you’d imagine)

Because you're at home, possibly? Struggle to see how a side 4th in the league above aren't favourites, but it is what it is. Certainly won't be taken lightly from us anyway. I hope we go full strength 11 from the off. You reckon you'll go strong or make changes? Or will that depend on what happens between now and this time next month and where you are in the league?

Mansfield need to look long term, that draw is their best shot at the quarters(?) and with a very realistic chance of going through. Boro who knocked us out got Exeter away, I’m glad we lost now.

We weren’t clear favourites like 3/4 to qualify as opposed to 5/6.

A lot of water under the bridge between now and then, but peterborough started their regular XI whereas we made changes and after we’d took the lead early on they dominated until around 60 when clough got the rest of the starting XI on.

From them we absolutely leathered peterborough and they didn’t get close though it did take an injury time goal to get us back on level pegging.

Clough have come on a long way since that playoff defeat, but he always treats the opposition with the upmost respect.

We made five changes for the Peterborough tie from the previous Saturday’s league game, but the fans before the game thought it was as strong or a stronger side. However three subs came on at the hour mark to change the game. These players all started the previous Saturday.

You can guarantee that Nigel will not be starting any youth teamers for the Vale tie.

We made 9 changes all be it have more depth that previous years, ironically our youth midfielder Rhys Walters has been man of the match in all three cup ties he has played in! FA Cup the weekend after so guess the draw in that will dictate a lot, if we had say a Non league side or a lower L2 side we may focus more into the Carabao Cup tie.

I think we’ll both be wanting to win in this more so than the FA Cup this year. Not often a chance of being in the last 8 comes around for sides like ours. Ideally we pull some random forgotten non league sides like Chesterfield at home and we can put the kids out on the Saturday.

To be fair, we do have decent depth to our squad. The changes we made the other night didn’t make us weaker IMO, although the subs did change the game for us.

It’ll be a good cup tie though with what’s on offer for both. Do you reckon Vale will bring many up for it?

I would hope we will sell out being localish and whats on offer if we win, we haven't an away game close to it of note either but you never know being the League Cup, it hasn't entirely captured the imagination having only 4k in the third round.

Are many of that Play Off side still there as revenge will be thrown up no doubt?

We've only got a couple left now, Conlon who was injured and is injured again, James Wilson, Ben Garrity and Nathan Smith!

There’s 5 players in that starting XI that are still with us, 2 are out long term (though mclaughlin not far off) quinn and oates are out medium term also. Such is the nature of the injuries we’ve had this season.

Bowery is about and the only one currently fit out of them.

Probably only Bowery, Maris and Akins who played any part that day that will be involved. Clarke was an unused sub too who will be involved but as Adam says Oates and Quinn both out injured, Macca maybe back but I imagine it’ll be too early for him to be featuring.

Thankfully this team we’ve got now don’t seem the type to just roll over and have our bellys tickled anymore.

Be a good crowd if you do I imagine, hoping for 6k home fans given what stage we’re at.

To be fair playing the diamond was suicide from Clough that day.

Should be a good tie, think I will try and get to it.
