I agree Sbarra and Osborne were Solihull's best players when we played them a couple of seasons back. Surprised they're still there.

Oldham mate of mine has said that Dallas has started off terribly, I know the Grimsby fans have tales of him missing big chances in their Play Off Final. He did exactly the same against us at EP, Easter Monday I think it was so was a big game, he fluffed two massive one on ones and we went on to win 1-0 in injury time in what was obviously a massive three points in that seasons title race.

I actually thought Solihull were going to beat Grimsby in the Play Off Final at West Ham. Thought Grimsby had used up all their lucky charms in their earlier play offs against Notts and Wrexham. Thankfully they had one left in them. I know I mention it a lot but their fans should be so grateful to Hurst. I loved that NL play off campaign in 21/22, with us up as Champions it was just great, relaxing enetertainment.

Relaxing is not a word I’d have used to describe it myself.

That bunch of players Solihull had are so weird, I get that they were probably being paid well but they all must have had decent, higher league offers after 21/22 and the only one who ended up leaving was giant Hudlin. Would’ve loved Barnett or Sbarra here but the biggest fool was Dallas, who’s now ended up far worse off than when he started, at least footballing wise.

Osborne a bit weird as well - talented player but never looked like he was prepared to put in the hard yards to play at higher level when he came to us with Bignot. Ends up back at Solihull as their main man in midfield. Likes
being the big fish in a small pool…

Osbourne was a massive talent but an even bigger knobhead. As for Dallas, I've never seen a bigger choker in big games. What he did in that playoff final took some doing.

Osbourne and Sbarra are both from around that area, that probably plays a big role in why they haven't left

Thankfully though, when it really mattered, he got a lovely flick on assist for the winner.

If Osbourne spent as much time working on his game as he spent feigning injury, he'd be going to the Euros.

I was gonna say, Osborne is one of the most horrible players around. Spends most of the game screaming at the ref.

Huge slagging-fest of Osborne this, but I understand he always lifts the toilet seat and is very accurate with his aim…

Osborne sits down to wee, wipes his man piece with a bit of paper then gobs off at the toilet guy for not having Lynx Africa

So because we’ve let a few goals in last few games after being on the beach for weeks we’re now finishing lower mid table next year?

Cut us some slack lads we’ve had it tied up for months down here, our players are allowed a few off days at this point

FWIW I posted this on the other forum, but Paul Cook knows this level inside out and will do what needs to be done in the summer. For all his qualities as a manager, I’ve always maintained his biggest strength is recruitment, as proven this year in getting the likes of Naylor, Grigg & Jacobs (& Dobra the year before) to drop down to the NL who’ve helped take us to another level. Being back in the league will only make it easier for him to attract players to the club, and our owners will back him 100% in doing that.

I mean winning the weakest conference in seemingly ever is one thing, but with cook in charge you won’t make the same mistakes with rectifying frailties as others might have. I can’t see you finishing bottom half if honest if you sort this issue with defence your fans keep talking about, cooks too cutthroat.

Remarkable this season with you look at the bottom half and you’ve notts county, tranmere, bradford, doncaster, swindon, anyone can, and does beat anyone.

I'd argue that this years conference is actually stronger overall than last year

Last year you had Wrexham and Notts County miles above everyone else but part of the reason they got so many points was how poor everyone else was. Chesterfield went like 8 or 9 games without a win at one point yet still finished third.

Three of the four relegated teams were complete basket cases, both Yeovil and us were on the brink of not existing and Torquay are about to go bust now. The other relegated team Maidstone were one of the worst teams in NL history. None of the relegation threatened teams this year are basket cases.

Not getting into a debate about the strength of the NL because it’s wasted energy on debating it with supporters who haven’t seen the level week in week out for a good number of years / ever as they’ve already made their minds up on their opinion, and that’s fine, I’d probably be exactly the same if we’d never been relegated in 2018. Nothings going to change that unless you actually saw the level on a weekly basis for yourselves.

As for us, like I’ve said, there’s far too much being made of our ‘weak’ defence atm because we’ve been a bit off it the last few weeks since all but wrapping the title up. Don’t get me wrong, there’s a couple of individuals that I feel we need an upgrade on going up a level, but I really don’t think it needs wholesale changes like some seem to be suggesting. For example I find it bizarre that some of our fans feel the need to absolutely hammer Jamie Grimes just cos he’s had a couple of iffy games recently, despite the fact he’s been an absolute man mountain for us all season prior to that in helping us get to the comfortably position we’re sat in right now. Some people seem to have forgotten that, but I guess that’s the way footballs gone these days.

Fair point, you’re right about the NL strength i suppose, one thing everyone can agree on, i don’t want to be near it, ever again. urgh.

From what i’ve seen having watched alty 7/8 times this season is probably more the control of the ball/technical side of things and being able to keep the pressure on without losing it which happens more regularly in the alty games (again a small sample size) nothing particularly different in pace between the conference and league 2 and keepers tend to be more competent.

As with us, start with a strong keeper/defence and you’ve got a good starting point.

What I would suggest. Is watch the 2 games today on Sky ( 4th Div ) and you will see what you will have to do to compete at the top of the division. Especially watch the second game.

Congrats Chesterfield.
Cheers mate. I said on the other forum, but I was surprised how emotional it was considering we've realistically been up since Christmas. Feels different when it's actually done. After the manner of that playoff final loss, to react the way they have done is mad really because it so often goes the other way.
To go from nearly regional football and very close to not existing, to champions at a canter and back to league football in a couple of years is a credit really to the Trust takeover, the Kirks and Cook. It's been a really shit few years for lots of reasons, probably the worst the club has ever had, but it finally feels like we've got our club back.

Savour every moment. Can't imagine what it's like to win a title. We've not done it in my lifetime and I'm bloody 36! Think you'll do well next season, especially with Cook in charge.

Congratulations! You know, being a fan through the shit (as we were well and truly in it ourselves) is worth it when you get moments like this. Something to saviour for a long long time.

We played Oldham away last season and won 2-1 with a 96th minute pen and my lad who was 10 at the time said this is the best day ever. I said wait till you see us get promotion...absolutely fantastic, especially being down there in the dumps for so long.

We're on a crest of a wave, and you will need to keep that up when moving up into the league again.

Curzon Ashton....and Carlisle
Carlisle will be n interesting one for next season because of some difference to the normal on their situation.

Firstly that they have gambled big time and very unusually on staying with the manager after a horrendous season, the other 3 who will come down have at least changed manager once, it doesn’t happen at all thesedays hardly except odd situations (Coleman at Accrington) so be interesting if that makes a difference or not next season.

On top of that Carlisle now have been preparing for L2 since March maybe even January really if you look at their signings were good L2 players than good L1 players, they should have their targets made for the summer talked to and ready to join while others wait to see what level.

Their budget will be large so can afford to offload and change a lot of players this summer and re build, but as shown at a few clubs at this level mass spending doesn’t always get results and mass changing of the side usually doesn’t work as well as improving with additions.

Plus Carlisle at present while having a large sudden income with new owners seem to be directing lots of it on improving everything bar the team, coaching team has massively increased, scouting network upgraded, new training facilities being built etc etc the set-up is probably a good season or two away from being ready.

past seasons would probably suggest a side in this terrible form would continue it next season, but their massive increase in budget this summer would suggest an expectation for top 3…….hard to say which way it goes.

Carlisle snatching a draw from the jaws of victory yesterday means that they can't now join us until at least Easter Monday
