I can’t name one of our signings that don’t look like they’ve improved us on first look, really pleased with the window so far

would have been a transfer window failure for us to go into a league one season without signing an out and out number one. that being said, stone i thought was perfect back up but looks as though he wants to go and try and compete for first team football and fair play to him. he has managed to take his chances in each of our last two seasons and unseated both number ones to have a significant run in goal for us so that tells you something.

I think it's a good signing in league two, especially for a newly promoted team and wouldn't surprise me if he was to become a very solid league two starting goalkeeper in the near future.
I expect him to be our number one keeper. If he isn't it's a recruitment fail to be honest.

Probably got to go back to summer 2015 and the heady days of #operationpromotion to find a window with this much positivity among the fanbase. We need to @ Chris FGR and let him know so he can declare we've won the title in the pre-season again as it worked a treat in getting us up last time.

That penalty save from Ross Davidson will keep him in Vale folklore I guess.
I've just gone back and watched it, our official site said he saved three, but two were properly blazed over haha.

We’ve just signed Connor Ripley as our starting keeper from Morecambe so probably thought it was better use of resources to move him on as realistically he isn’t going to play for us now and likely get a cheaper backup. He’s still relatively young but to me his ability on crosses and some of his handling is just substandard certainly at L1 level.
Cheers, makes sense for everyone by the sounds of it.

I did think the stuff about Slocombe competing for number 1 was just lip service when he's presumably signed on a lesser deal, but on the basis Stone isn't that well established I can see there being a genuine battle there. Not a bad thing necessarily but not what I expected.

Wouldn't be too over the moon with ROD if he's to be your #1.

Good club man, but can't catch a cold and has plenty of elementary mistakes in him.

Not forgetting, he has 6 relegations on his CV.

Good Luck, Mariners.

Happy with Stone, taken a punt on a keeper good with his feet first and foremost - which is of course a batshit reason to sign a keeper but it’s kind of important given how we play. I think you lot kind of forget that our goalkeepers don’t need to save shots because you won’t get the ball off us anyway.

Worst case scenario is he’s a bit comical and we go back to old reliable, Sam Slocombe. Who outside of forgetting how goal kicks worked in the biggest game of the season, was absolutely fine last season. I think Notts fans forget with him sometimes that he’s being asked to play 40 yards off his line pinging balls into Bostock so he might give it away occasionally.

Dean Campbell from Aberdeen (via Stevenage) confirmed for us. Reports suggesting he turned down Tranmere and Colchester because he was won over by our Project™.

Bryn Morris on a 2 year contract from Grimsby.
Strange one. I only saw him a couple of times and he was dreadful both times, but apparently started off well and got injured (which is supposedly a running theme) and was then patchy for second half of season. Wish him well

Watching another League side signing Morris gives me a bit of hope. It’s not like he’s really bad, he’s just very, meh.

He started well enough, scored a belter against you but got injured & just struggled. Became a bit of a scapegoat at points but I’m convinced that’s because our local radio commentator unfairly gave him pelters when he’d be having a decent game.

There’s a player there somewhere, he just doesn’t contribute a great deal.

Wow didn’t know it was so many but knew it was a fair few. Tbh he’s one of those guys you can’t help but like, always like to see him get a club just so long as it isn’t us!

He’s one of them that fans rate a bit higher in a struggling team because just to the volume of shots he faces he’ll save a few and improve his stats. It’s the keepers who can keep concentration when having little to do then suddenly save you two points who are worth their wait in gold.

I don’t know enough about him to assess whether this would be a a significant loss, but we seem reasonably blessed with similar type midfielders so hopefully not. Though that may be the cue for a MoM performance in the season opener.

Looked like a fish out of water when he first arrived at Crawley. Typical u23 player. Anyone got near him and he panicked and gave the ball away.

After he got a few sub appearances he started showing his talent...one of those that the team performs better with him in it types. Filling holes and keeping it simple. We're all thinking, mmmm we may have got one here when he gets a season ending injury.

We had so many players get bad injuries last season that I wouldn't hold it against him but I will watch to see if he can progress.

Could be a good signing.

Yep said similar in WhatsApp group earlier yesterday...

"Thought he was a bit of an unjust scapegoat last season and had Holohan not been contacted for another year might have had a better chance of getting another deal with us. Solid L2 midfielder imo, does everything relatively well without excelling at anything."

Pleased with Conney, looks a solid right back at this level and an upgrade on Mellor with him being only 23.

Should be announcing Shilow Tracey on Monday who I believe was released by Cambridge.

Once scored a hat-trick past us so fits one of the criteria for a Crewe signing as he's previously scored past us. The other criteria out of interest are ex player or an injury prone player.

Think 2 more permanent signings (experienced CM, experienced CB) and 3 more loanees (RB, CAM, RW) will be coming in at the very least before we're good to go. If we lose Uwakwe, I could see us bringing in a versatile defender on a permanent too. Can't see us signing as many players as we did in the last two seasons as the squad is relatively settled and we're going to give Finney, Holicek, Tabiner and O'Riordan regular game time this season. The latter two are regulars anyway!

There's an experienced CM still under contract at another League Two club close to signing for us. He could be announced shortly after Tracey.

Dan Agyei has also left the club and will be announced by a League One club next week which is a relief as I didn't want him to stay in this division unless it was with us. My money is on Leyton Orient who were great admirers of him for the majority of last season.

You'll have the Chesterfield fans in meltdown if you do, they've been banking on him coming all summer.
May as well piss them off after annoying their smaller neighbours in January.

Rumour is that it’s done, Solihull’s manager quit today too, which could of course be a coincidence and the entire thing be a load of bollocks anyway

Ardley is on a hiding to nothing at Solihull. Can't get a crowd, dump of a ground and they've had a fire sale of their best players with the owner clearly stating there's budget cuts this season.
