I think we'd all agree with this.
You dont need to splash out on a new keeper. We have James Belshaw frozen out who was class in L2 and our POTY.
Wants to move closer to Nottingham so its a bit shorter to travel to/from Wrexham

Aidan Stone who we’ve signed is starting to look decent so doubt we’ll be interested now, but I assumed we’d just sign Belshaw this summer.

Remember him having an absolute blinder against us in about 2019 for Harrogate. He's the reason why we only managed a 0-0 as we just couldn't beat him.

He was great for us, very decent with the ball at his feet too. Occasionally gets caught out of his box and beaten from long range.
Just had a bust up with Barton as he got 2 loan keepers in who are keeping him out of the squad.

Someone like Belshaw would be perfect. Definitely some decent keepers available.

Sensible suggestions like that won't wash.

We will be looking exclusively in the Irish third division for any new keeper thank you very much.
*shudders*

Massive overlook on the GK part. I thought after a good preseason that Foster would be back up to speed, but 2 days a week training shows. Massively out of his depth. Shame.

We need to go out and get a keeper who can save some shots, which'd be nice.

Foster has effectively taken a bullet for the defence and midfield here, all of which have been dreadful in the opening matches. Until the midfield and defence decide they want to work hard to block shots then the goals will continue to fly in I suspect.

I guess he doesn’t want to sit around being 2nd/3rd choice .

Wish him the best but I think over the course of the season you’ll find you want better in net.

I’ve barely seen any highlights this season so has Foster proper messed up for some goals or is it that he’s just a bit slow now getting down to save them?

The latter 100%.

I wouldn't say he's fucked up royally for any goal since he's been here but even he admitted earlier today that about 5 have gone in this season that he simply should save.

Is there a particular aspect of keeping you think he's lacking in or just in general? I don't have the first clue when it comes to analysing keepers.

I think he looks pretty bang average at most traditional goalkeeping stuff but is very confident with the ball at his feet and two-footed, which will be more than enough to get him the job for the foreseeable.

He's not particularly big and I think he's been a bit slow down to a couple of goals we've conceded, nothing shocking but ones where he maybe could've done a bit better. The red card at Sutton wasn't his fault, sold down the river completely by Cameron's back pass.

He's obviously been signed for his ability with the ball at his feet which is kind of fine, it's 90% of what our goalkeeper does and was an easy area we could improve and make our game smoother.

I'm a bit disappointed we didn't go down the loanee route again, though - you'd think we'd be an easy sell for a club with a young goalkeeper who plays in that kind of way but needs experience of doing it in proper football. Was hoping we could find another Patterson who was absolutely outstanding, will play for England within the next couple of years.

I counted a similar amount. A goalkeeper at this level should be stopping some of those.

I don't think he's the biggest issue but we need someone able to stop those shots in goal

Thanks, makes sense. The Rose goal in the Grimsby game looked bad definitely.

On the issue of loans, I wonder if having control of a potential asset plays into it, or if it's just having a known quantity. I don't feel like you're likely to be able to sell a keeper generally, though I could be wrong. Jaros and Mair didn't make it past Slocombe in the end, and he wasn't exactly the best keeper in the Vanarama. Once Slocombe was staying on, I don't think we could risk a loan. Whether he should have been is a valid question.

Still waiting to see the massive gulf in class you lot are on about tbh. The league is a little better (players more consistent) but not to the level some of you would have us believe.

Didn't see the Foster decision coming but equally I'm not surprised. It would have been better if he'd had left it at last season.
Will you give a little leeway on this if you get beat at lil old barra this weekend, surely that’s equivalent to a wake up call

Joking aside I’m hoping and I’d be happy with a point.

Obviously he doesn't do the recruitment anyway, but Williams doesn't seem to like loans full stop. Maybe he thinks they're just not as committed or something. He showed no interest in playing any of the succession of young loanees in goal ahead of Slocombe last season and the same thing is happening with Tipton this time. Castro got the odd game but was only ever really a sub. It was only really Jones that he actually played and presumably that's because he always knew we had a solid chance of signing him permanently.

Stone can’t be that good if Mansfield and Port Vale have released him in recent years.

I think he's an upgrade on Slocombe. Patterson spoiled us.

York City released Langstaff from the Vanarama North, doesn't always work out for players at different clubs and stages of their careers.
He hasn't done much wrong so far, that's all I can really judge him on.

Wimbledon fans, we've signed Terry Ablade on loan. Doesn't seem to have pulled up any trees in his time with you? What's he like? We're missing goals so it seems odd to have signed someone who hasn't scored any but we could also do with a pacey provider so maybe he's more in this mould.

He didn't play a huge amount for us, only a dozen games or so and most of those were off the bench if I recall, so hard to give a detailed description.
I quite liked him, looked quick, strong and direct but not big enough to be a target man. He was unlucky in that he was with us during our ridiculous half season+ winless run as we unsuccessfully circled the drain of league one, so was playing in a team completely shot of confidence and leaking goals all over the place and didn't get much by way of service.
If you're looking for him to be the main source of goals I'd be concerned, but I could see him scoring a few as a second striker, or being a bit of a handful coming off the bench for the last 20 mins against a tired defence. I'd say he's definitely got potential but you might need to be a bit patient with him.

Not as good as his cousin Tony Awednesdayite.
