Ryan Jackson from Cheltenham. Experienced right back. Our defence is now done.

Still waiting for Cartwright to be announced on loan from Hull City but seems like a done deal and now rumours of Richard O'Donnell from Rochdale who we'd have to pay a fee for. Would be very happy with that if true. Highly experienced FL keeper and a highly rated Grimsby lad, at opposite ends of their careers, fighting it out for the #1 spot

I think we're signing Mickey Demetriou next week. And apparently we've had a bid accepted from Colchester for Ellis Iandolo. Pretty happy with both bits of business should they happen.

Wouldn't be too over the moon with ROD if he's to be your #1.

Good club man, but can't catch a cold and has plenty of elementary mistakes in him.

Will Grigg has left us for Chesterfield. I would have thought he could have done a decent job in league 2 for us but I'm guessing he was a wage we wanted off the books. Now if we lose Eisa as well, I will be worried.

Grigg on a fall from grace? Obviously peaked at Wigan and got into NI's Euro squad but he just seems to be on a bit of a downward spiral since Donald at Sunderland paid about £25 million for him.

If both come off it won't be a foregone conclusion that he's number 1 and O'Donnell was apparently decent in a crap Rochdale team last season. Solid L2 keeper even if not top tier.

Yes, he's reached the end of his football league career I think. Except for the odd game was pretty non existant last season but then again, so was the whole team. Sunderland paid 3mill for him BTW.

I guess the chance of a three year contract when you're 32 isn't to be sniffed at. Chesterfield fans are already congratulating themselves on winning the legaue- but tbh that happens most summers (although they've got to be favourites this year)

Oh bloody hell. I wanted us to keep hold of RoD.
I wasn't too enamoured with him at the start of the season. But we have been spoiled with good keepers in recent years. Brighton and Spain's Sanchez for example.
He dropped a few clangers. I initially put the blame solely on him. Then realised the 10 in front of him were gash and led to pressure. So I cut the guy some slack. He grew on me. Some top performances last season. Mansfield away springs to mind were he just pulled of save after save to prevent a battering.
On the whole he's a a decent if not amazing keeper at L2 level. He seems a good bloke too. Got involved with fans and community stuff a lot by all accounts.

Are we just Grimsby's feeder club this summer ?

We’ve signed Aidan Stone from Port Vale, goalkeeper. Played a decent number of games for his age, sort of profile I imagined we’d sign to compete with Slocombe.

Hopefully confident with his feet, which is almost more important than saving stuff for a Notts goalkeeper at this point.

Worst case it sounds like he can play the Archie Mair role if it comes down to it. Was down as being retained on Vale's list but apparently a free transfer, interested to know what's gone on there?

Statistically the worst keeper in the league last season, played mostly because Covolan kept getting sent off in the first season and Jack Stevens was dreadful last season. He is very "raw". We got promoted with him coming in but he made two absolute howlers in the play off final which luckily we got away with due to poor Mansfield finishing and Connor Hall being in the right place.

His save percentage is awful but doesn't seem to make any real blunders often as such, just doesn't excel in saving anything and doesn't really command his area. It was a key area for us to address this summer but come out the blue as expected he would be back up, guessing we are going to try and improve on him in that role also after signing Ripley as number 1.

Hahaha Covolan, what a guy.

We’ve got a solid at goalkeeping but brain explodes at our mad playing out option in Slocombe, so this guy will get a chance if he can do the stuff with his feet confidently. The stats thing is intriguing because our recruitment is more stats-led than any team in the EFL probably, but I suspect we’d say goals conceded, save percentage and things like that which we can access are basically useless.

I’m so glad we didn’t sign Mair. He deserves to be a bizarre club legend and cult hero forever.

It means that despite him being in contract, they're happy for you to take his wages off them and aren't worried about a fee.

We're in the market for a similar GK profile. Hinchliffe is our Slocombe. You kind of think you could do better but whoever you bring in, he finds his way (pretty much always deservedly) be back as number 1. That competition/back up role is hard to recruit for, you can't tell a decent young goalkeeper they're going to be back up , no fucker will loan you one because they want him to play every week.

Harvey Cartwright is coming in to be #1 I reckon. Hull sent him to Wycombe in the last window as we couldn't guarantee him a starting spot so I doubt they'd be sending him here without reassurances. Think ROD will be experienced L2 backup that won't break the bank if it's him. If it's not him then it'll be someone similar I'd imagine. Rochdale's POTY last year apparently, I'd be fine with him coming in.

We’re about to sign Harvey Rodgers from Accrington, yet another extremely solid signing that will improve us

Didn’t you have Jaros last season? Same thing happened with him here, Slocombe just ended up more reliable.

Only one who’s managed to displace him properly was Anthony Patterson who we had from Sunderland for a bit and was ridiculously good. Their number one now and might be off to the Prem for a huge fee this summer, so that made sense haha.

We’ve just signed Connor Ripley as our starting keeper from Morecambe so probably thought it was better use of resources to move him on as realistically he isn’t going to play for us now and likely get a cheaper backup. He’s still relatively young but to me his ability on crosses and some of his handling is just substandard certainly at L1 level.

would have been a transfer window failure for us to go into a league one season without signing an out and out number one. that being said, stone i thought was perfect back up but looks as though he wants to go and try and compete for first team football and fair play to him. he has managed to take his chances in each of our last two seasons and unseated both number ones to have a significant run in goal for us so that tells you something.

I think it's a good signing in league two, especially for a newly promoted team and wouldn't surprise me if he was to become a very solid league two starting goalkeeper in the near future.

just to add as well in fairness to him, he got us to wembley last year with a penalty shootout save and despite a couple of mix ups in the final we went up and stayed up with him in goal for large parts.

Yeah, Jaros came in and early doors he got the nod. He looked OK to be honest but our form was undisputably not great. Mid October he gets injured in the first half vs Salford, Hinchliffe came on, won 2-0 and our season barely looked back. Jaros returned from injury in say January but never played another second from what I recall, just on the bench. Hinchliffe makes the odd fuck up but overall he had a great season to be honest and the form numbers were so stark it it can't be a coincedence (more experienced keeper, better communication etc all possible)

Jaros was playing for Czech u21's the other night against England, he's not a bad keeper. I imagine Liverpool will demand number 1 status if he's being loaned out again.

Yeah I dont want to sound harsh he just isn't currently a League One keeper, we signed him as a youngster to develop into number 1 and I am sure we didn't expect he would be needed as much as he has done...

That penalty save from Ross Davidson will keep him in Vale folklore I guess.

Signed Ryan Cooney from Morecambe to play RB after releasing Kelvin Mellor.

Morecambe fans seem sad to see him go which is always a decent sign. Sorts us out in an area we badly needed a body or two in as well.
