When you've done it loads of time, what was the standard of the ref? I'm guessing not 4th tier.

I must admit Yates is nails and a bit of nutter, I wouldn't of gone in with my foot where he put his head. Shame he's not ours

I'd say if you dip your head down that low you're endangering yourself and can expect a clonk to the face as reward for your bravery. Ref blows, free kick fair play, game goes on. It's happend to me more times than I can remember. Ever heard of the phrase put your head where it hurts? Man's game (was). If we lose that side of it it'll be a crying shame.
Is it a good thing that players get injured though? Football has moved on, going in studs up is almost a guaranteed red card.

The standard of their common sense was seemingly higher than 4th tier.

Do you think it was a red Viking? Just a simple yes or no? We've heard in this thread how black and white the game is so a simple yes or no will suffice..

No but it's inevitable in a contact sport.

On first viewing no, I wouldn't of sent him off but it's far from clear cut either way IMO. It certainly wasn't a travesty he got sent off like you are making out, nor would it have been if it had been a yellow.
The only wrong decision in my view would be no card and a foul only. Now that would of been a disgrace.

Why you are concentrating solely on that I don't know, why no mention of Lincolns wasteful finishing?! Oh hold.... yes I do know why you are concentrating on the ref.

Let it go... and enjoy your return to the football league

No then, good honesty.

Why am I concentrating solely on that? Because the score was 0-0 at the time and subsequently ended in a 4-1 loss, pretty major talking point especially as we were on top.

The way some of you are portraying it on here is as if it happened at 3-1 and had no bearing on the game as you were much superior.

We wasted 4 chances before the red card, at least two of which should have been put away, been a problem so far this season hence why I was unhappy that we didn't try harder to get more forward options in before the window closed leaving it so late really mucked us up.

Exactly David, the key part your Impish chum has apparently missed all along. Against a side that doesn't lose at home under Super Kev, your side missed 3 decent chances during your good spell. You can't do that against a team who are 2nd and in great form and full of confidence and expect anything from the game. All teams have a good period in a game, and even a much shorter one for Notts in all likelihood would of resulted in a goal #bemoreclinical

As expected, the FA has upheld Knott's red card.

Can this be the end of the season's weirdest red card uproar??

One of them divisive Red's like Mane with the high foot. Not a red for me but this season it seems to be being clamped down further so the way the game has gone a likely outcome. In previous seasons probably a yellow.

The red would've been been much less controversial if Knott had planted his studs into Yates' knee rather than his face, weirdly.
His studs don't go near Yates' face; it was his shin he decided to headbutt while doing his rugby/spear tackle.

I've seen a very inaccurate still on County Mad which, because of the angle of the camera, makes it look like Knott is about a foot in the air doing a kung-fu kick. If you watch the video, his lowest foot is on the ground (standing on his toe) or at most an inch or two off the ground, and the leg that Yates dives into is at best slightly above Knott's waist.

Anyway, what's done is done. For me it wasn't a red card and the ref's poor decision altered the course of the game and turned what could have been a competitive match into a pretty boring and one-sided affair once the man advantage began to tell in the second half.

I wasn't expecting it to be overturned because they rarely are, but it's a soft red. The ref assessor told us it was potentially worth an appeal but the camera angle perhaps did it no favours.

Not read most of this thread, so apologies if already mentioned, but at the point of contact, Yates' head is level with his own waist. Knott doesn't 'stud' him, it's his laces, nor is it a straight leg. Ironically enough, Yates' dad is a Lincoln ST holder and was in the away end!

It certainly wasn't excessive force, Knott didn't endanger his opponent because Yates, bravely, threw his head in at a lower level rather than Knott's foot being high, and the only one that could be thrown at Knott would be careless, but it happened that quickly that I'd question that one as well.

Why are we still discussing this sending off ?! Surely we've all seen a hell of a lot harsher red cards before than this!?! Jeez.

These Tuesday night games can't come soon enough.

Game Over

Probably because the appeal result only came through at lunch time?

To be fair, I think the camera angle probably does make it look worse than it did in real time.

The FA have become much more likely to overturn reds the last couple of years (been four or five now in Notts games that I remember), so the fact it was upheld probably suggests that they see it as a borderline yellow/red.

Or if your a counteh player managed by an ex prem player you don't even get booked for kicking someone in the head in the same game...

Yes Kevin Nolan known throughout football for being able to influence referees at L2 level because of his illustrious premiership playing days past.

I bet you had the same with Chris Sutton ;)
