Easy 3-0, very impressed with what I saw defensively but we didn't look like anything special going forward. However we scored 3 so I'm not going to complain

Forest Green actually doing better than I expected after I predicted a 2-0 defeat for them in the prediction league

Well that didn't go to plan... Created hardly anything.

Fair play to wood, Stephens and Payne at the back very very solid, they'll do well this season.

Urgh that was a boring and frustrating match. Dover as physical as last season, and they should have won.

Barely created anything.. Football is back eh..

While all you lot were in league action we had our last preseason friendly. I'm glad that is over and we can move on to proper football now!

Looks like the forum will be a bit quiet this week with both FGR and Woking losing...

Well that's got me very excited. Our attacking play was excellent. Hawkins up front is a good target but the 3 behind of Fejiri, Guttridge and Maguire-Drew were excellent. Maguire-Drew in particular is going to be something special. 18 and from Brighton. He'll play at a high level. Fejiri, very quick and skilful although lacks a cross. Guttridge is just a massive player at this level.

Southport, it has to be said, were awful. They had nothing to their game and basic control was even an issue. We could have had 5 or 6 in all honesty. On that showing, they're in deep trouble this season.

Still early days as we'll play far better teams and I think we definitely have to work on our marking still at times. But a massive positive overall. We look like a side who is definitely going to feature top half and if the young players have that inner steel about them, they could take us far under Still's guidance.

Severely low levels of BULLISH(IT)ness. Crisis point.

Yeah we got worked out pretty early, Boreham Wood just sat their striker on Bennett in the middle of our back three and put pressure on us all over the park and we couldn't create anything. Also like last season at Woking, Andrade tore us a new one. We were so open at the back a times.
Must say I was concerned about how we would adjust to this new style early in the season and whether we would be able to commit psychologically to our passing game under pressure when games matter rather than in friendlies. Just got our answer. Will be interested to hear what Cooper has to say.

A convincing win for us and we played well most of the time. Norburn scored the first with a powerful volley and Holroyd got the second with a sliced shot that went in off the bar. A good confidence builder ahead of our trip to York on Tuesday, especially given that we were missing two first team players.

We had a lovely warm welcome to the Southern League Premier...

Lost 2-1 to Frome.

Early days but need to get off to a good start for confidence, disappointing

Onwards to Tuesday we go, our first competitive HOME fixture v Hitchin.

Norburn does like a volley oh and the odd chip!

Barrow 1-0 Aldershot.
Definitely the right result, even though we gave them a couple of clear chances to equalise. We also hit three or four straight at the keeper that you'd expect to have gone in. We played some good stuff through Williams down the wing in the second half, plus balls through the middle in the first half that caught the centre-backs flat footed.
The strike was brilliant from Hughes, nearly took Cole's head off. He had a good game in goal, when we could have had a few more goals. We won't lose too many at home this season.

I actually think there's a bit of value in Southport at 4/1 on Saturday. We don't tend to win the opening game very often and I think we may have a slow start this season.

Scratch that, we're brilliant.

Gonna win the league.

The Telford win went to our heads I think.

I can't believe we didn't lose that, Dover are awful to play against and can find themselves disappointed not to win. They have real quality in Miller and are just tough and physical all over, Newton in particular had a bit of a mare up against Modeste. Impressed with Bencherif today and can see him becoming a fan favourite, won his battles and went on some random mazy runs into the bargain. Chris Dunn looks a very solid keeper too. We lack any real quality in the attacking areas.

Very happy with a 3-1 win, we looked quite convincing at times and our attack looked a lot more fluid than last season. But that said Woking looked poor apart from a ten minutes period at the start of the second half. Can see them struggling this season.

Lost 3-1 to Solihull. Looked good in the first half, but Moors took the lead with their first effort. We soon equalised and went into halftime on top, but early in the 2nd Solihull got a 2nd, and didn't need to look back in a strong win.

5th opening day loss in a row, so I'll refrain from panicking

Wes York always scores on the opening day. Don't expect much for a few months now though.

I think Newton did ok against Modeste personally, kept him quiet for most of the game. A good battle and a score draw.

Great start BUT it's only one game and tougher tests await no doubt.
Great to finally beat Woking too.

Felt he and a few others were off the pace most of the game so I'm glad we got out of that with a point. Dover looked the same as they did last season, even after losing some key players.

What about that mental piece of refereeing in the first half, Wrexham player gets fouled about 10 yards in from the touchline near halfway, ball hammered out of play in the incident. Ball is then kicked back in over to where the foul was ready to take the free-kick, but a Dover player comes steaming in and nicks the ball away acting as though play has restarted. Then I think he fell over and it all ended up in a free-kick for them, right on the same spot.

I felt we were definitely lucky to come to wih a point in that game. Not that Dover were much better than us but they at least looked likely to score.

I suppose he didn't blow up? Not that I heard anyway. He seemed to be giving a free kick and then changed his mind. His while performance was poor. Kinnear threw himself to the floor like he'd been shot at least twice and the Dover defenders were treading the thin line between physical challenges and assault most of the game. Thomas was just pushing people over. Didn't bother hiding it. He wasn't favouring them he was just inept.

Can someone please send out a search party for Chris FGR? Arm yourself with some Prozac too?

I'm getting worried here.

Good win with a couple of great goals. Norburn with a man of the match performance and Mitch Hancox, the left back brought in due to Fitzpatrick's injury, looks top quality too. Torquay looked quite poor, a lot of players didn't look very interested (Williams and Blissett).
