Next week, for our game against Accrington Stanley, Coventry have given away thousands of tickets to local schools.

The club have gone around to all the schools in Coventry and have offered each family free tickets as long as they sign up with the club.

For the first time in 10 years, CCFC under SISU, have finally done something to get fans onside. 14,000 tickets have been given to families who may not have been to watch Coventry play before. It is a brilliant way of getting kids supporting their local side.

General ticket sales are going well and I would not be surprised if the crowd is pushing 30,000 plus, which according to our local paper will beat Pompey's 18,000 record crowd. However, I did read somewhere that their was a crowd of 38,000 in the 4th tier about 40 years ago.

Our game tomorrow might just beat that 18,000 Portsmouth one, so we can have the record for a week. :eyes:

I might be wrong but wasn't there a Sheffield Derby in the 4th tier, back in the 70's or 80's when there was over 40,000 there.

Still can't argue with kids being given the chance to go to the football.

A club run as poorly as ours, with crowds decreasing by thousands each year, it's vital we attract the new generation.

Even without the free tickets, there will he 13/14,000 paying customers.

I can also confirm that 30,000 is higher than 18,000.

Are you likely to attract a new generation given the situation there? I mean, the atmosphere around the Club, whilst perhaps not being *that* bad, isn't one that's likely to get youngsters on board?

Sheffield Wednesday have never played as low as this level. The record crowd for this division is 37,774 between Crystal Palace and Millwall.

No it's definitely a great initiative, I was more talking about comparing record crowds, obviously if one team gives away 14,000 tickets and another one doesn't, it's not a fair comparison.

Coventry are a good club, so I hope you can get yourselves back on your feet. If sisu start reaching out more positively like this that can only be a good thing.

Yeah, just realised. The game I'm talking about was in Division 3 in 1979/80. There was over 45000 at Bramhall Lane and over 49000 at Hillsborough.

Incidentally, that was the last season we won a Championship, beating Sheffield United 4-0 on the final day of the season.

The atmosphere around the club over the past 12 months has been the best for 20 years. Bar a half-hearted play off push two seasons ago, this is by an absolute mile the best chance we've got of finishing in the top 6.

I think a lot of people have had to come to the realisation that SISU aren't going to leave anytime soon regardless of anything.

We've tried everything as supporters and nothing has changed. The only thing fans can do is support the team and with that team being packed with local youngsters from the academy it helps.

While there are still thousands staying away, a lot of people, like myself, who have spent years spending large sums of time and money protesting have had to accept SISU will not be selling up.

Bollocks, you had some decent times, considering, in the late 90s, Dublin, Huckerby andHadji etc, remember decent atmospheres around Highfield Road then too, though can't remember the name of the boozer near the ground. Another much missed ground, first visit was in 1991 last one was 1-0 defeat in 2004, loved it.

Strange fact was we lost there in 1988/89 5-0 and I think the first four goals were headers, David Speedie got a hat trick the bandage wearing twat

It will make a nice change to be part of a crowd making records for being the highest rather than the lowest in the division.
A couple of years ago some of our attendances were below 1000 so Coventry are entitled to sing "what's it like to see a crowd" at us.

Don't put yourselves down, just to be in the league and competing is a cracking achievement, John Coleman working wonders, thank you for helping develop Jordan Thorniley too, not looking out of place at our level.

none, all are two pounds to celebrate his fantastic one year in charge, hopefully some will enjoy the experience and return.
The 500 hospitality luncheon tickets at around 35.00 are all sold out with the club inundated with request for them this morning.
When you think of all the extra food merchandise and beer in the club bars being sold it may be something that can be done more often.

I’ll admit I read this on Stagsnet but apperantly he gave hundreds away to a local company on East Midlands today, and a lot have been given to schools.

He loves the media attention more than Carolyn!

20 years only stretches to 98, we were relegated 3 years after.

The 90s were good, but it was relegation battle after relegation battle.

How many are you expecting to bring? Would be good if its one of your bigger away followings.
