The season is back! Don't think there are many exciting games for the opening day however. Wrexham and MK Dons the pick of a bad bunch? There is a Yorkshire derby as Harrogate takes on Donny.

Saturday 5th August
Accrington vs Newport
Colchester vs Swindon
Crawley vs Bradford City
Crewe vs Mansfield
Doncaster vs Harrogate
Forest Green vs Salford
Grimsby vs AFC Wimbledon
Morecambe vs Walsall
Stockport vs Gillingham
Sutton vs Notts County
Tranmere vs Barrow
Wrexham vs MK Dons

Crawley for us. We don't have a particularly good record down there, we've drawn our last few opening games, and we drew both games against Crawley last season 1-1. I think it'll be a tight game. Perhaps 1-1 or 2-1 to City. I'll go for the win if Tyler Smith partners Cook up top. Need to get off to a good start this season.

Champions elect Stockport hosting not-at-all going-for-it-mid-table-budget-Gillingham could be good.

MK Dons is a tough start for us but being at Home helps and it's probably a good time to play them so I'm expecting a win. Let's be confident 2-0

Not sure why I didn't include that match! Think your game will be more entertaining. Gills vs Stockport might be one of those tight and canceling each-other-out type games.

Looking forward to Saturday, ticking off a new ground as not been to Stockport before, decent amount of tickets sold 700 so far, hopefully have a new striker in before Saturday (Macauley Bonne training with us)

My team would be as it stands

Turner
Alexander Masterson Ehmer Malone

S.Williams

J.Williams Lapslie Jeffries

Nadesan Nichols

When they came to us in March they came for the 0-0 and got it.

We had 74%, 17 shots to their 2 and 7 corners to their 0.

It’s the kinda game that made us add Powell and Barry to the squad this summer in the hope we could be a little less predictable in the final third.

We’ve lost our last four openers so it’s yours to win.

At home to Mansfield. Very tough opener, a carbon copy from the one we played to start 2017-18.

Looks like the starting XI would be:

Davies
Adebisi, O'Riordan, Demetriou, Williams
Powell, Thomas, Tabiner
Tracey, Baker-Richardson, Holicek

Squad looks a bit under strength as we've got a few injuries. Got a LB playing at RB, a CB playing at LB and a youngster with 20 minutes of football playing at LW. Not ideal.

Bench will depend on who's fit, namely Long, Nevitt and Colkett. If they all miss out, then the bench will be badly lacking options.

Would gladly take a draw from this one to be honest.

Going to be a big build up, first league game in 15+ years, against a team that was in League 1 last season. Sell out crowd (home, not sure about away),
0-0 or 0-1 loss all over it

We've got a pretty poor record down at Tranmere, no matter how good we've been. 2-0 loss.

I'm with you about our game. Never seem to do well against Crawley, especially down there.

I'm going for a 1-1 draw, conceding a late equaliser, as Hughes sets us up to try and defend a narrow lead in the 2nd half.

At least we get our longest trip of the season out of the way early doors in summertime

I'm going to Sutton United for the first time because I can and I want to. Very similar squad to last season, should still be confident so would expect to see a positive result.

1-1 or 3-1 win is my prediction.

Don’t want to be too greedy, but on paper this looks an ideal game to try and get going with a win as I think Sutton have had a bit of an injury crisis and some very poor pre-season results. Was also a happy fixture for us in non-league, seem to remember we even did the double over Sutton the year they won the league.

Just been reminded that we haven’t won an opening game of the season since 2004, just when I was feeling confident

The away allocation sold out quickly - for some reason we usually travel in numbers to the first game (before reality kicks in). It's also a new ground for the majority of our core away fans.

With all this added time, Tranmere could rattle in 6 or 7 late goals.

We beat them when Andy Haworth scored a screamer. Was a great performance.
Andy Haworth now that's a blast from the past. One of the many players Parkinson signed for us who played about three games then vanished off the face of the earth.

As for our game, I echo my fellow Bantams. Despite Crawley looking like relegation fodder this summer, I'm not at all confident and most of the fan base seems to be apathetic about the new campaign. We've looked good in patches during pre season but also fucking horrendous in others.

Lewis
Platt Stubbs Kelly
Oyegoke Pattison Smallwood Walker Gilliead
Smith Cook

Alarm bells ringing about the LWB but we'd be playing with 10 men regardless of whether Gilliead or Ridehalgh play. At least Gilliead can run so that's something.

1-1 Cook

Crawley (a) - Must win already.

Nah, in all seriousness, I can’t face not winning, just because I can’t be arsed with all our fans jumping on the negativity bandwagon. For me, we’ve strengthened since the end of last season. A select few on socials, who all follow each other, have a difference of opinion and the negativity is alarmingly prevalent even though no one’s kicked a ball in anger yet.

It’s almost as if they’re all just waiting for us to lose just so they can bang that drum - it’s fucking weird.

I hope Hughes just surprises everyone and goes 433 or summet. Revert to your 352 once you get the right personnel.

Lewis

Halliday - Platt - Stubbs - Ridehalgh

Gilliead - Smallwood - Pattison

Smith - Cook - Walker

FUCK it! 5-0 City

An extremely talented player, loads of skill and a hell of a shot on him - the only problem was that he could rarely be arsed.

I’m not confident, but we could be helped out by just how big a day it is for Wrexham. I don’t expect them to choke, but I’d rather get the away game with them out of the way early than wait until October/November time when they inevitably find their form.

We’ve had a pretty decent pre season, and on the face of it crewe away morecambe at home and grimsby away is a pretty kind start where realistically 5 from the 9 at least should be aimed for in normal circumstances.

However it’s the beginning of the season and results are less predictable at the start, wouldn’t be too disappointed with a point.

Not sure we have strengthened overall yet.

Since January we have lost 3 of our top 5 performers from last season in Wright; Banks and Crichlow. None of them have been replaced by any one as good or better.

Alex Pattison has certainly improved our central midfield options and the addition of Tyler Smith should give us better options up front.

Daniel Oyegoke looks a good addition too.

We are still short of 2 or 3 quality additions to be considered promotion contenders in my opinion.

If Cook gets injured for any length of time we are knackered

The thought of Cook against the back 3 we will probably have to start with is scary!

It will be interesting to see if Wright comes straight in as a centre after signing this week.

4-3
