John Wick or Don't Fuck With Another Man's Puppy - Chad Stahelski

Keanu Reeves plays John Wick, a retired hitman who gets back into the game when someone kills his puppy. No shit. I found it quite enjoyable for a "leave your brain at home" film. An above average action flick. I quite like Keanu's newer stuff - Man Of Tai Chi and 47 Ronin. He needs to stick to what he's best at....his performance in Much Ado About Nothing still scars me!

I watched Dawn of the Planet of the Apes the other day, finally.

And I say finally, because I fucking loved Rise and was very excited about the reviews Dawn got, so I always assumed I'd see it in the cinema... but every Wednesday, something just kept coming up, and in the end I never saw it.

However, I'd actually say that, looking back, I'm disappointed. I really did enjoy it and saw thought it was great... but I'd often seen it said that it was to Rise what Empire Strikes Back was to Star Wars; the sequel that goes and blows the first film away. I still think that Rise was the better film.

X-Men - 7/10

Considering when it came out this was a pretty good effort for a superhero film. Patrick Stewart & Ian McKellen are very good playing Xavier & Magneto.

X-Men 2 - 8/10

Really good sequel, and a superb addition to the mutants in Nightcrawler who for me steals the show. Only thing that annoyed me was there should have been more Cyclops

X-Men 3 - 3/10

Horrible clusterfuck of a film. Only redeeming features were Famke Jannsen as Phoenix and the badly underused Kelsey Grammer as Beast/Hank McCoy

X-Men Origins: Wolverine - 6/10

Loads of people hated this but I don't think it's that bad. Less Will.I.Am. would have been nice and the less said about Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool the better. Really enjoyed Liev Schreiber as Sabertooth though

X-Men First Class - 8/10

Really good, going back to a young Xavier & Magneto and Xavier putting together his first X-Men team (not the same as in the comics but a few references for fans) but a few continuity fuck ups bring the score down. That being said, I've not seen Days of Future Past so these could be corrected, I doubt it though

Honestly never heard of that film, but it looks intruiging - will look it out one of these days.

Macclesfield Town/Manchester City. It's complicated.
Not seen it recently, but for anyone who watched World War Z and were disappointed at how far from the book it was, this is the original script that was ditched because they thiught it wouldn't be commercial enough.

Not been watching any films recently as my headphones went up the spout and I'm not in the mood of forking out a tonne of dough on a good new set just now. I have a list of films to get whenever I get back to watching films in earnest again though and that's one of them. :)

Zeitgeist: The Movie
Not really a film as such but it's really interesting. You can pretty much debunk the whole thing but it does make for quite interesting viewing. The most shocking bit is part 3 and how money is practically worthless and other stuff. It's one of those things you should probably watch with an open mind. I think the idea of it is to make you think about things instead of just instantly believing stuff.

Never really thought about it like that before but seems plausible.

Fuck it, I agree.

The Third Man (1947)

Well shot, intriguing at first but a bit underwhelming after the reveal.

7/10

"In Italy for 30 years under the Borgias they had warfare, terror, murder, and bloodshed, but they produced Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, and the Renaissance. In Switzerland they had brotherly love - they had 500 years of democracy and peace, and what did that produce? The cuckoo clock."

I liked that quote though.

Nightcrawler - Dan Gilroy.

Hmmmmm....after seeing it on a lot of film critics top 10 "films of 2014", I can only think that I missed something. Perhaps I dozed off. Or perhaps it really wasn't that good. Felt it picked up in the second half on the film but even then, it was nothing special. Jake Gyllenhaal plays a man who gate crashes his way into news journalism and walks the thin line between filming and participating. Meh.

The Warriors. Rather camp and a little bit rapey, but I guess that's what was cool in the 70s.

Welles himself wrote that, though its not a great metaphor in that it wasn't the Swiss that invented the cuckoo clock, but rather Bohemia. Thats a small side note, but its a fine film, and that famous scene in the doorway still gives me goose-bumps it was done that well, and Welles looked as cool as Steve McQueen in that instant. And that song is brilliant as well.

Really liked it actually, I'm quite the fan of Jack O'Connell, he's a really good actor. One of the few to actually do something decent since Skins. 7.5/10.

Definitely one of the funnier films I've watched recently. 7.5/10

Woman in Black 2
Enjoyable purely for the fact me and my mates couldn't stop laughing at some of it, mainly because of the awful acting at times. Scares and jumpy parts are unoriginal and exactly the same as in the first one. Also literally every part of the film can be predicted beforehand, including the ending. Poor effort. 4/10

Masters of the Universe

It should really just be crap 80's Sci-fi but I really enjoy the film, one you should watch and laugh at the bad acting, but enjoy the other aspects of the film.

It was a film attempt at He-man for them who didn't know

Joe - David Gordon Green

A Nicolas Cage film I actually enjoyed! Praise the Lord! He plays an ex con turned nice guy - unless you piss him off - who meets a young teenager and offers him some legit work. Unfortunately the kid has a drunk father who likes to knock him around. And "Joe" has some people in his past that like to occasionally pop over and say "hi". Bastards. Really enjoyed it.
