In 2 seasons we've only had the Roma offer, it's not even like a prem club's put in a derisory offer so he can want out all he likes, nobody is interested. Kanté isn't a box-to-box midfielder but rather a ball winning midfielder on support duty.

Don't pretend you don't know exactly what I mean. But if you insist the difference is that a box-to-box midfielder is expected to have an equal impact in all thirds of the field, whereas Kanté's role heavily prioritizes the central third of the pitch. He doesn't shield the defense but he doesn't venture forward unless the numerical advantage in the middle is needless in the specific situation. For reference, check out his heat maps against two man midfields and against three man midfields, they'll be very different. A classic box to box midfielder will have a similar heatmap almost regardless of the opposition, which is why it takes a very special type of player to be viable.

As for Renato Sanches, standing still at that age isn't a very good sign and any potential buyer will know that.

Anyway Salah is a good player, and I think a great signing. Just saying though he's never been as good as Mahrez at his best. Wether Mahrez will ever be that good again, who knows? I think in a team with more threatening players than Marc Albrighton, he'd be given less attention and would thrive. At the moment, the Algerians peak is above Salahs.

Bakayoko is not a (pure) defensive midfielder! He is a jack of all trades type (without wishing to do a disservice to him) that will be a much better partner for Kanté and a much more suitable fit for the 3-4-3 than Matić was.

What would those trades be Steven? Not sure what games you saw of him but I haven't seen him perform in any other way than a DM who got forward when he fancied it. He showed his limitations in the League Cup final against us when Fabinho was absent (bit like when Dirnkwater was playing without Kanté) in that he's a good DM. Not particularly good with the ball at his feet and definitely a lesser ranger of passing than Matic.

Two box to box midfielders is definitely a viable strategy in certain systems, yes.

I'd avoid it in something like a 4-2-3-1 but it can be used to great effect in a 4-4-2 or 3-4-3.

That's interesting. You see, Deschamps plays 2 box-to-box midfielders in a 4231 and it doesn't seem to be working all that well.

We don't know what Salah's peak is yet though, he could just be hitting it, and improve yet again, particularly if Klopp can get the best out of him which he has a record of doing with front men. We'll see, both fine players no doubt about that.
