If we got him for £30-£40m I wouldn't complain. The point is, Leicester wouldn't sell him for that so we need to look elsewhere.

I've no idea, as I said I thought Leicester were wanting 40 mill for him. I just can't see us forking out much more than that if we are in for him.

The problem with Mahrez is that they'd want something stupid like £60m for him, simply because they know we have the money.
You've just forked out 75mill for a defender who had a couple of good seasons for a mid table team. But 60 mill for an attacker who was recently PFA player of the year is stupid?
Hmmmm. Logic.
We wanted 50mill in the Summer after a relatively poor season, hes on fire right now, so where do we go with his price then? £25?

Logic? You would have a point had I indicated what we paid for VVD was any thing other than stupid. Unfortunately, I've no control over what we're prepared to pay for anyone.

Naturally, you and the club would expect top money for your best player, no need to get overly defensive however. I just hope we wouldn't pay what I view as stupid money for him. I wouldn't rule it out though. In my view, if Leicester wanted more than £40m (which they will) then we should go elsewhere. That should make you happy.

A stupid decision in my opinion. The premium you'd lose by waiting until the summer is not worth the repercussions of potentially missing out on the top four and/or going deeper into the Champions League knock-out stages.

Emre Can to Juventus in the summer is looking likely at the moment too, so that's two influential midfielders lost inside 6 months of each other. Still hoping a new deal for the German can be sorted but looking increasingly unlikely.

Yeah that one has been a long time coming too. I thought we'd need two midfielders in to replace Coutinho and Can even with Keita coming in, so I can see that being Klopp's main priority in the summer now; unless he can get one of them in here in January.

I would still hope his main priority is a new keeper. With VvD coming in it's now by far our weakest position, even with Coutinho and potentially Can leaving.

Hearing contradictory stories, apparently LFC are not interested in Mahrez at all, and Leicester are looking at way over £50 mill for him.

In which case I'm glad, as the reported £50m was pushing it in my view. Leicester no doubt want to keep hold of him, and are pricing him accordingly which is entirely their prerogative.

I checked the various reports and all point back to a single claim from Bein Sports so it is indeed looking unlikely.

No point spending fuckloads on a wide player when both of those first choice positions are covered.

Can is going to be a huge loss for Liverpool. I feel like a lot of people overlook him without realising how young he still is. Hopefully his move to Juventus works out because I think he will be one of the best midfielders in Europe soon.

Been saying it for a long time, and why he tends to get picked for European games as he moves up a level then and I think Juve will push him on to become the potentially world class midfielder he could become. Too inconsistent yet, but over there he will excel.

Can can't move until the summer, his contract isn't up until June and there is no way we will let him leave early. I wouldn't rule out us sorting some sort of deal with him before then.

EDIT - also, whilst a decent player, he's a bit of a jack of all trades, master of none, and lacks pace. It will be a shitter to lose him for bugger all considering he must be worth £30m in today's stupid market if he has a good length of contract still to go and his lack of a solid, discernible role does come with advantages in terms of versatility. But there is a reason the club aren't bending to his demands. To put simply, they don't view losing him as being that much of an issue. Hopefully they can meet in the middle. If not he can fuck off, no player is bigger than any club.

If Can looked like Flannagan no one would give a shit. Slow pace of Serie A might help him though.

£50 million for Mahrez in the current market would have been a fucking bargain. Player of the year a couple of seasons ago and is playing at close to that level this season. I think he has well and truly proved that he isn't a one season wonder at this point. The market has changed since the Neymar signing and I don't think it's going to contract any time soon, Leicester should be looking at VVD money at least. I'm glad they are just rumours as that would have been a crushing signing, easily one of my favourite players to watch.

Think Liverpool should be looking at Draxler over Lemar, just wasting away at PSG and was rated more highly than Coutinho not too long ago.

Embarrassing yourself there G. Can has improved every year he's been here in midfield, and when I saw him with Germany in the ConFed cup, he looked a natural fit in there. I think he can do it all just about, pretty good defensively and in attack, and knows where the goal is too. I can only see him becoming world class over the next two or three seasons.

Get to fuck. Can is mediocre at top level football and I'm not renowned for underrating Liverpool players.

According to Independent Jan Oblak is our next signing.
