Why do people get angry at where the clubs are? It's not exactly the end of the world. I think they've plonked any club any where on the map to prove a point that clubs can be anywhere that we come up against.

Why not just stick them all on a map of France then? More space to fit the badges on.

The Newcastle Leeds derby is always a bitter rivalry.

I enjoyed the episode about the women's team fwiw, something a bit different and a couple of interesting back stories intertwined.

How did the first series end?
Aye. I tell you what though, you find me a more entertaining game with what was at stake. Fair play to Grimsby for beating us that day and then winning the PO.

And it all worked out brilliantly for Grimsby, Wrexham, Notts, Ryan, Rob and of course the network.

A Hollywood script both seasons, with 3 happy endings

No. Grimsby in the play offs. Notts was good for different reasons.
No, I meant the Notts County game was more entertaining with even more at stake. It's splitting hairs though, as both were great, in ways that matches between evenly matched teams often aren't.

Great advert for non-league; marvellous scenes; small boys, jumpers for goalpoasts etc etc

I wouldn't say there was more at stake. The PO literally finished the season for 1 team there and then. The Notts game was a mere swing for the winning side imo, and both still had plenty of points to play for to win the league.

It certainly was a great advert for the league. I fear that since we are both out of the conference, the league has got considerably weaker.

I would say there was more at stake; the winner of the Grimsby game had a chance to play in the playoff final. Would Wrexham have beaten Solihull or Chesterfield playing as shit as we were at the time? We haven't got a great record at Wembley, either.

The winner of the Notts County game pretty much guaranteed promotion and knocked the other team into the playoffs. If Notts had won that, I'm not sure Wrexham would've recovered. Who knows? It's certainly one of the entertaining games I've seen at The Racecourse ever.

It was a rollercoaster of a game that's for sure with an amazing conclusion for the home side and Ben Foster. Who would have guessed at the full time whistle that he would retire so soon after.

We of course had two more amazing rollercoaster games after that even surpassed that one, in the playoffs. Thankfully the other great side from that season's rightly came out on top in both. Whilst you got to relax as fans and thoroughly your title winning season.

Happy to be here, and doing far better than expected to date.

It felt like we had 1 hand on it after that game but it was only after we got out of Barnet with a point that I thought we had it properly won. As we were always going to win our 2 home games after that.

If we had drawn to Notts or lost to Barnet then we probably wouldn't have won the league IMO. That 1 point was crucial as it meant we could win it at home.

I didn't sleep properly from about February until the end though, Notts County almost killed me.

Likewise, the amount of times Wrexham gave Notts fans real hope by falling behind in so many (unexpected) games only to pull it out the fire with a goal or sometimes two in injury time was a body blow after body blow after body blow. Tbh after a while you had done this late late act so many times I was neither surprised nor upset and started to bet on it happening. It became the norm. It should be applauded and I see you are still pulling out this magic trick at a higher level.

The two sides were so impressive all season long that they clearly pushed each other to new heights which wouldn't have been achieved if either had walked away with and strolled to the title a couple of months earlier.

Not sure a Chesterfield/Barnet title race will gain quite as much attention in the football world.

The swinger for me was Dagenham at home. I wanted to find the score when I was working, so ended up putting the commentary on BT when I was driving. Effiong scored about a minute later. I was driving past the Ramada and had the window open slightly. There were a couple of people standing at the bus stop when I screamed my head off in pure delight!

Nothing will ever come close to a title race as good as last season. Not even the premier league.

No one wants Barnet back in the league. An absolute rancid away game and they'd be back down within 3 years.

That was a miracle game, I remember watching it on my phone in the pub after our game that day. Looking back that game was actually in February believe it or not, there was ages to go at that point.

Part of me feels like Chesterfield should be the ones coming up - a club who should be in the league given their size, stadium, resources etc. But they do seem to have an above average number of idiots following them.

Hartlepool fans always seem like decent sorts. I hope they make it back. I completely agree about Barnet.

Always needs to be a lower league away day in the North East. A shame both Pools and Darlington went to shit. I'd have them both back with immediate effect. Cheap beer and always good days out.

Chesterfield be a local one for me and I've always saw them as a proper lower league club before their recent decline. Can't stand Paul Cook though.

Too many London/SE sides in the lower leagues as it is. Barnet would just be more of the same.

Chesterfield, Oldham, Rochdale, Hartlepool, Scunthorpe (once they sort themselves out) and Southend should be the only clubs allowed out. Bring back re-election.

I'd say York too but they've gone very tinpot of late, moving into a Lego stadium and that kid chairman exchanging Twitter insults with the old guy from Yeovil (who also aren't allowed back).

Agree with this. Also permanent ban on clubs whose stadium is down the end of a road to nowhere tucked way behind the likes of Screwfix, Toolstation and Johnstones which are given far more prominent billing than it. Can't have tinpottery like that in the EFL.

Will happily have Darlington and maybe Hereford back though. Bury if they can be sustainable too.

Hopefully we can avoid a ‘race’ and have it all tied up with a few weeks to spare come the end of the year, but being a Chesterfield fan we know better than to think we’ll ever make it as straight forward as that. We’re still due our annual 3 losses in a row out of nowhere that sends our season spiralling so it’s more than possible that something daft like that is just around the corner for us…

All seriousness though, there’s no real excuses for us this year with Wrexham & Notts out the way. Cooks gradually been building a very strong squad since returning, with the finishing touches being put in place over the summer (Naylor, Jacobs, Grigg etc…) after play off heartbreak, and it’s so far so good with 41 points from 16 games. Barnet are looking a very good side as well though, have a real spirit about them so will take some shaking. Will know more about them & the threat they pose in a couple of weeks when we host them

Surely it’s got to be your year this time round, that conference is the worst conference i can ever remember, wish it was that bad when we were down there! (basically just last season minus wrexham and county). You’ve done your time and chesterfield fans should now know better to never wish non-league on anyone as it’s fucking shit.

I mean that barnet are 2nd says it all.

Barnet have some decent players - Kabamba, Kanu, Brunt could all step up and do a good job for a League Two side, plus a squad of solid players around them which will make them go close this season. Chesterfield should still win it comfortably though.

Also, your first season in that league contained such footballing powerhouses as Histon (who managed to finish 3rd somehow), Lewes, Kettering, Rushden & Diamonds, Eastbourne, Salisbury City, Grays and Northwich Victoria, so it's a bit rich to claim this season is the weakest you can remember. You finished 12th that season, right between Rushden and Eastbourne.
