I am sure Sky will have a word with EFL to make sure the Wrexham vs Salford games are scheduled to be on an international break weekend.

I think the poster who said, "What will happen if they start losing", does make a good point. It is easy to bandwagon when a team is winning more than half the games, the higher you go, the less likely it'll be.

I think they'll likely challenge if only because theres so many promotion places in League 2. Until May, unless your in a relegation battle you're challenging, and they certainly wouldnt expect to be in a relegation battle. I'd have questions myself if a Tozer in his 30s is good enough to captain them it really is an exceptional squad, and they'll have a few more teams who will financially compete with them for players like Salford, Stockport and maybe even Gillingham, but you'd expect interest and money will let them bring in some strong options.

We rejected a bid for Guthrie last summer (and supposedly Horsfall the year before that) from them so would be interesting to see how deep their pockets go. But, will they be good enough to be finishing Top 8 this year... almost certainly. It's only really when they move into League 1 and look up from that that the glass ceiling will hit, especially with the turnover restrictions in the Championship which makes having owners inject cash far more difficult.

Also, this isnt aimed at anywhere here, but it annoys me when the new calls them 'American Hollywood' stars, when it describes neither Rob nor Ryan.

I am sure Sky will have a word with EFL to make sure the Wrexham vs Salford games are scheduled to be on an international break weekend.

And it will get shown, get L2 viewing figures and then sky will lose overall interest in showing them bar token games.

Same issue Salford got, in conference they have contract to show games, and are the big fish, once in EFL the media focus heads probably towards Leeds, Leicester or Everton whichever go down.

And that is when Wrexham will have to really think on direction because the media coverage reduces, Salford have never been able to work on the fact they lost being the media darlings once here, crowds have dropped and never come back.

At least their owners bother to turn up most weeks which will help them, the Salford owners only ever bothered if they deemed game big enough to be worthy of their presence.

I mean the coverage is kinda hilarious, that it was actually mentioned in the news and even virgin radio walking in just now is crazy.

Even if the owners get bored and do one they’ve done more for wrexham that could be hoped for and that’s to get out of that dump.

They're also looking to sign Phil Jones and Hal Robson Kanu.

Phil Jones, not even for L2 :lol:

no chance, just lazy journalism

we have not signed anyone who hasnt improved our team in the long term (Foster aside) and i cant see that approach changing. I was surprised at the coverage over tv last night, but it was great scenes

i understand the comparisons between Wrexham and Salford, but I think they are a bit lazy. The situations and the clubs and their histories are quite different.

The coverage yesterday was completely over the top, I agree. But the broadcasters’ data must have shown them that it was of interest to a good number of people, or they wouldn’t have broadcast it.

Roll on next season and talking about actual football on the pitch!

You're right about the lazy comparisons because Wrexham have a decent sized fan base and were an established football league club for decades whereas Salford were always a tiny non league club for decades who have no fans and no league history. Just Gary Nevilles pointless project.

I also feel like the Salford attention has died off from the media since they failed to keep winning and get promoted successively as they've just hung around in L2 for a few seasons now and have no actual fans.

I'm already sick of hearing about them to be honest, all this Hollywood style publicity. Is way over the top for a non league side,

I can't imagine Notts Co or Woking, or whoever else comes up, getting anywhere near the same publicity.

Pleased for the fans, but the publicity they get next season is going to piss off other league 2 clubs and fans, in almost the same way Salford have.

If Salford don't go up, I can imagine Sky wilp be going out of their way and schedule to feature their matches with Wrexham
Yep. The things that the media and their documentary peddle that will continue to piss people off are, in the main, based around this myth that Wrexham are some unique wonder of a club. The "jewel in the crown of the UK" comment that was forced upon Rishi Sunak the other day being a prime example. Badly ran club in poor area of the country that has suffered a decline in a once thriving industry is hardly a rarity. We could reel off numerous clubs that fit that narrative and while it's kind of obvious that this would be the documentary's MO, it's all a bit cringey seeing UK media getting in on that act.

Their fans are in the main a sound bunch though so I’m happy for them that there will be some good times ahead.
The genuine Wrexham fans I mean of course.

The Wrexham fans on the other board are a bit of a sensitive bunch though, Carver will be rubbing his hands if they end their boycott.

Pretty much every set of fans are a sensitive bunch when a fan of another club dare criticise their club.

There were a few pictures I saw from it that will probably become iconic in due course but that's nothing new for a Conference Winner's open-top bus parade is it

Think this Wrexham project is very different to Salford’s. As awful and cringy the media spin is, their owners are undoubtedly doing things the ‘right’ way. The momentum they’ve got and the fans they’re getting through the doors mean they’ll go straight through L2 (if not, year after next) and the media attention will keep rumbling on.

L1 will be more tricky with a raft of bigger clubs but it wouldn’t at all surprise me if Wrexham are a Championship club within 5 years. Salford, in my opinion, will never reach the Championship.

The owners are not only clever people but they’re likeable and their reach is far bigger than Salford’s mob. The bandwagon jumpers can get to f*** but for those fans who were there in the dark times, it’s hard to deny them some success. As above, I just wish the narrative around them being some kind of unique sleeping giant would end.

Agree with this. They'll definitley make the Championship and not only started out with a good fanbase but growing much more than Salford.

You can never judge an owner while things are going well.

Michael Knighton at Carlisle was almost
Messiah like levels of praise in his first few years when games were won, crowds were up and things went well.

Then came appointing himself as manager, seeing Aliens and boasting about closing the club down.

Salford would be in L1 now their budget hasn’t dropped but their meddling owners get impatient and constantly swap and change managers when it isn’t all great. They don’t need the crowds they have a lot more cash then anyone else here

Thought I would let Wrexham fans know that Shaun Pearson has announced his retirement and his last game is today. Hardly played this season but is starting as captain today which is a nice gesture from Hurst.

Is joining the back room team in some capacity next year which was a move always likely when he rejoined 2 years ago.

Top bloke, great in the community and will always be thought of highly at both clubs.

County goal disallowed because a Hartlepool defender impeded his own goalkeeper, you love to see it

I'll start by acknowledging I stuck it in completely the wrong thread. I'll also acknowledge we weren't at the races and didn't deserve the points. Good luck yourselves next season, at least you experienced the league before and it won't be the system shock it is for everyone else, and you couldn't ask for a better bloke in charge than Askey

Top guy Shaun, was immense for us in a bang average period. Even better off the field. I'd imagine he'd be a great coach/ambassador

He's taking over from Giles Coke as our youth development coach, I believe. As you say, seems like a top guy. Really glad we're keeping him on as part of the backroom staff.

Had to get a password reset to my e-mail as I couldn’t even remember my username. Good to be back.

The media are making a lot of our owners ambitions which may come in good time with a lot of stars aligning but I’m just happy to be back playing proper clubs (almost) every week instead of for 8 games a season.

Roll on August.
