Thought this episode was not good, and in what it portends too. These shows that trade in being mysterious always get a honeymoon period on account of being enigmatic and enticing, but then so often the fall down when all that vagueness has to be filled in by something more concrete than the audience's imagination. Feel like we are arriving that point at a rate of knots.

I'm exceedingly forgiving of dumbass/unlikely plot shenanigans too (due to years of watching horror movies entirely populated by people who do stupid stuff, most likely), and especially in a show which is much more interested in Big Ideas than any sort of realism/verisimilitude, but the eye-rolling moments are starting to rack up here.

Also appears increasingly likely that the two timelines stuff is gonner prove to be accurate. Shouldn't pre-judge it, cos maybe they'll make it pay-off in some sort of meaningful way, but I fear that it's just going to be formal/narrative tricksiness for its own sake (which probably shouldn't come as much surprise with Jonathan Nolan and JJ Abrams involved) and also kind of obvious pandering to the legions of internet theorisers and their buzz-generating #content.

Just seen the 7th episode that was on in the US over the weekend, what a twist. Without giving any spoilers away, I'm really enjoying it. Anthony Hopkins is superb, and Jeffrey Wright.

As soon as Wright said "What door?" I knew he was a host. Superb.

Come on, who the fuck didn't see that coming?

My Mrs. And so she had to laud me with praise as I wouldn't stop saying 'Told ya, told ya didn't I, didn't I tell ya?'.

I'm great to watch TV with I am.

I've decided they're all robots. But Ford is sentient. Something along the lines of Arnold being the creator, making the park and creating Ford, possibly by accident or possibly getting cold feet after he's activated him. So then we go all Frankenstein, Ford wants more sentient hosts, Arnold refuses and is either killed or takes his own life and Ford is now using the park to try to recreate Arnolds accident/work. Ford has already said that once machines become conscious then human life becomes obsolete. He also clearly lacks any remorse for taking human life even though he doesn't do it himself. Just about everyone is a robot and they're just acting out their programs like Bernard which will to a degree excuse people doing stupid shit as it's either something that they've been programmed to do or they're unknowingly breaking their programming with unexpected results as Ford tries to create another sentient being.

Or Arnold is like a big fuck off mainframe that controls them all. Like the Fat controller in Thomas the Tank engine. But fatter.

Can't suss William out though.

Another great episode, to be shown in the UK tonight. We finally find out a little bit more about Ed Harris' character.

That last episode was a good one, although I still have no idea what's going on. I heard that two of the main characters, the one currently with Delores and the bloke all in black with the cowboy hat could be the same person at different times. The guy currently with Delores spoke a few episodes back about his family and it was very similar to the family of the older cowboy in the last episode. Also, when the older guy in the black cowboy hat spotted that blonde girl, he said, "wow, I guess he never likes to dump a pretty face" or something like that. I can't be 100 per cent sure but my other half reckons that was the same woman initially invited his younger self into the park.

I think that episode pretty much confirmed it.
That host you're on about was the one that prepped him before entering Westworld. She offered him a shag and a stetson.
There's also the fact that William is about to marry into a family that has invested in Westworld and when the man in black is met by Hale in the park she mentions that he's invested a hell of a lot of money in the park.
Also the fact he's now turned to butchering the hosts in the night rather than simply killing them shows he's probably cracked a bit and the man in black did say that his wife thought he was capable of that kind of violence before she killed herself/died in the bath.
The whole Delores reveal too shows that the timelines have changed. After being gutted, then to see she's no longer got a wound is because she was recalling a memory, but as explained the hosts see them memories more vividly than humans and so they can't differentiate between the two. Her costume changes multiple times to show she's made the journey multiple times.

Well that's cool.

But why does it matter what he's been up to in the past, if in the present he's searching for the maze? Or is it purely so we get to know him a little better?

I suppose it'll show his motives. William sees Delores as different. He may come to the conclusion she's sentient, which we know is what Arnold was trying to achieve and what the man in black is trying to uncover.

On a sidenote I also think that the photo that Logan showed to William of his sister when he was holding him captive will be the photo that drives Delores's dad over the edge in an earlier episode. Or not. I might be just tying trivial stuff up.

Good thinking actually, I love the minor details in this show.

So Delores killed Arnold? Arnold was recreated as Bernard? Bernard became too much like Arnold trying to lead the hosts, so Ford got Bernard to shoot himself?

Is that what everyone else got from the episode?

Essentially, but Ford and Bernard have done that before which is why Ford says he thought he'd see if this time he'd join Ford (sort of from his own free will) alas, nay!
I've got no idea where Maeve and Teddys characters are going.

I reckon Arnold created Ford, achieving machine consciousness, and then Ford killed him to take control.

I'm thinking that. Ford was Arnold's first ever creation, his personal project, and then they worked together to build up the world, as Ford later used Bernard.

He never does any of the killing himself does he, using Bernard and Dolores when it came to Arnold. Because his programming won't let him? All the way through he's spoken about humanity in a very detached, third-person kind of a way. And we've seen through Maeve how a host can be coded to have complete control over all the other hosts, in a way that is identical to Ford's and we haven't seen from any other human character.

I'm still not sure what's going on with this new narrative though. Maybe he's realising he won't be able to hold onto power from the board for much longer? And is he at all aware of what Maeve's up to? It seems not...

Oh, and inb4 William kills Logan

the photo was the same, and i noticed that straight away. so its definitely a 2 timeline story now

I need to watch that last episode again, I wasn't really concentrating. I'm not really sure what happened with the whole Jeffrey Wright is Arnold thing.

5 episodes into this and I have two BURNING questions.

1) What the hell is going on?

2) Whoever built these hosts, why didn't they give the women bigger breasts?

Every twist is going to be 'guess what? THIS GUY IS A ROBOT TOO' isn't it.
