Magnay would be a massive re-signing still. Said he's 50/50 a couple of days ago. A defence of Magnay, Gowling, Pearson, Robertson is dynamite at this level. Almost guarantees a lot of clean sheets, making goalscoring not as important as it otherwise might be.

If we kept LJL or not we still needed a goalscorer, that was the one thing that's needed to happen since the beginning of last season, never mind this one. The fact we finished 3rd and almost got promoted without a goalscorer is a testament to the team, the team that we have pretty much just resigned.

Yes we still need a goalscorer but that hasn't changed things, the good thing is we don't need to replace the midfield or the defence as well, that is the encouraging thing.

So you couldn't find 1 goalscorer in 2 seasons... and now you need to find two.

Not saying you'll struggle, I'd just be a little less happy about LJL walking away than many Grimsby fans seem to be.

FUCK YES!

Henmania! *fist pump*

I've probably never been so pleased about a player re-signing for GTFC. He's had a cracking 4 years and there's going to be at least 2 more. Put it this way, if we were signing him from another team in this division I'd be ecstatic, so to get him to stay is a real coup. Wouldn't have begrudged him a move to the football league.
Excellent Peep Show reference! Agree with all this and what Frealaf is saying. Losing John-Lewis is a blow, but at least he isn't going to a team in this division. Conker, I think League 1 would have been a step too far for Pearson perhaps, but he would have been a good signing for any League Two side. Absolutely delighted with today now. Still not confident about Magnay, but the Pearson deal softens that if he goes.

Also, Southern Shayman why do we need to find two goalscorers? We need to find two strikers, but they don't both need to be goalscorers.

Don't see any that's happy to see him go, I'm certainly not, however he is replaceable as all the players, but LJL is far from a goalscorer, if he was he would have had 40 this season not 20, he misses far more than he scores. Scoring goals is not what we will miss from him, its his strength and hold up play that we will miss. So we don't need to find 2 goalscorers, we need to find one that will get 20+ as we needed last season (hard to find) and one who will get into double figures, which is easier to find, and already have if Pittman stayed fit all season.

We would have missed the likes of Pearson far more than LJL.

Hurst said if the squad we finished the season with started the season, we'd had won the league. He's dead right. So to keep nearly all of them is a huge plus.

LJL was a poor finisher of the ball and still managed 18 goals, I'm sure somebody else can come in and bag a similar amount. If anything having LJL hindered us at times, he dictated our style of play a lot and Hurst loved him so much he was undropabble. When he did get injured, we actually looked better and more positive going forward.

It could indeed be a blessing in disguise.

Well you lot have seen a hell of a lot more of Grimsby I have so fair enough.

Just think the availability of 20+ scorers in this league is pretty minimal but only the season will tell :)

don't get me wrong, it is very minimal especially when you have no money to go buy one, however its not changed from last season and the point is we have so far re-signed 9 of the 12 players offered deals who almost got us promoted which is the most important thing. Keeping the squad together is what will get us back into the top 5 again next season, not having to sign an entire new side which is what could have happened with only one senior pro under contract last week.

Its not even the end of May and we pretty much have our squad sorted bar a couple of new players and 2 strikers. We could have been in a far worse position than we are after this week.

Haha, think Dennis is a good signing for you anyway, only on loan so suits us both.
I think maybe suits you better than ourselves. Gets him off your wage bill, £750 a week I've heard he's on at yours. Not guaranteed to score us goals, but if he does then he's your player still to try and get something out of at the end of the season. Am not convinced he'll be great at this level but that's going off his physique when previously with us and he only made 4 first team appearances back then in league 2. But it's the way Askey works so happy to trust him

I highly doubt we could afford to pay him that much.

He's a natural finisher with good work rate, the only problem is that he's injury prone, he could be a good option as back up to you.

O'Hanlon looks a decent signing on paper for us. Remember him with MK Dons. Tough defender which you need at this level with good experience. Have to question why he's down at this level though? Injuries? Fat bastard?

Amari Morgan-Smith confirmed today and a new signing to be confirmed on Monday. No idea on who though.

Why do you think Young wanted rid and mentioned the term "value for money" so often?
I wouldn't say he was a natural finisher either. I think he will flop at Macc but I may be proven wrong.

Looks an absolute cracking signing. Carlisle fans seem pretty shocked he has dropped two divisions which is a good sign. Sometimes being the biggest part time club pays off. I'm guessing we fit around some kind of studying.

The fact he's gone to Macclesfield Town says it all to be honest. You'd rather retire to be honest and go and work in Sainsbury's than play for Macc. I'm not being tight, I don't know if any of their supporters post on here and if they do, I'm not trying to offend you. But every single Macc Town fan I have ever seen looks like they wait outside school gates at 3pm. Primary school gates as well. Weird, weird people.

Nothing worse than a fan of a team with a sugar daddy who brags about having money... Actually makes me want to see Eastleigh lose it all. At least at fgr we're more cival about it.

Nothing wrong with that. If you've got it...

I have been reading this board pretty much for a year now but just never got round to signing up. I must say though that this is the single most bitter post I have ever read, it's fairly embarrassing. Anyway, to the other Stockport fans, has Dennis only played 37 games in the last two seasons? Aside from his injuries, he looks like he could turn out to be quite a good signing.

Bowdon? Posh bastard :D

Just playing around pal.
Not sure on Dennis, I can't make as many games as I used to. Lads on here will tell you more. Some of our lot are sad to see him go but I think whoneedsmourinho has it nailed by saying for the decent money (for this level) he was on his input in terms of appearences wasn't enough. Young wanting as much budget to himself is understandable.

Hiya, welcome to the board. You will get the odd post, or poster, who just throws abuse at you because of the team you support...most are probably loathed by other supporters of their team for showing their club in a bad light. There are plenty of decent folk on here, who are willing to enter into debate about footy matters, giving their views in a considered and well reasoned manner...not just throwing abuse around like confetti at a wedding. My view is generally the more the merrier, hopefully next season we will have fans from every team, as long as the trolls don't scare them off.

I see Forest Green's attendances have got smaller. The man who goes to watch them every week dog died.

Shaun Pearson is one player who wouldn't be taken in with Eastleigh's vision (I'm not saying he was linked with them by the way)

"It was a tough decision simply because, financially, there were much better offers elsewhere to be honest.

"But my Dad is a big influence on me and I sat down with him and talked it over and we came to the decision, along with my girlfriend, that money isn't everything.

"I could have gone elsewhere for more money, but it was a case of asking myself, am I bettering myself football-wise?

"As a player, you want to be at a proper football club and that's what swayed me to stay here. You've got to be happy in life."

Yeah I've been told he is on £625 a week, so you'll be right there.

In terms of the level we're at, I'd say he is a as close to a natural finisher we'll get, his strike rate for us is better than 1 in 2.

Definately makes it sound like either Eastleigh or FGR came knocking, the more money and wanting to stay at a 'proper' club etc.
Maybe ChrisFGR will write to Pearson and tell him to stop 'belittling' smaller clubs.........? :dk::ohy:

Nathan Arnold has also turned down more money to stay with us, just shows the sort of players we have here now, they all get on, have a great rappart with the fans, and are not mercenaries. :D :D
