Had it with this fixture. Eric is right - we just don't turn up for it. God knows why it's about as intimidating as a kindergarten.

Fair play. Only positive is the 2 we had sent off will only miss the Chelsea wank shit trophy on Tuesday.
.
I'm off to hang my drunken head in shame.

I find it quite funny how both us and Oxford call each other the 'scum' as if we are all child molesters/rapists etc. That's football fans I guess.

I don't want to kick you while you're down but suspensions don't count in the " Chelsea wank shit Trophy" and will go towards your next league game.

Edit: Oh what a coincidence it's against Bury...

For Indian Dan, both your players will be suspended for your next league game. The Checkatrade Abomination doesn't count as a 1st team game for suspensions. Just to make it better for you ;o).

As for the game, your players lost their heads especially the keeper, to the extent he got a cheer when he gave a w@nker gesture to the East Stand. He does get angry doesn't he?! Your centre-half (Jones?) wasn't too bright either getting his 1st booking for pushing the ref. It was summed up nicely on Radio Oxford on the way back, Chris Maguire (who bossed the game) got involved with your fans but only temporarily, and controlled on his part, whereas your keeper never stopped being involved, and angry, with us.

We deserved to win (but then I would say that) as we were the better team creating more chances. Cracking save by your keeper to stop a 3rd by Alex MacDonald. Don't know if the penalty was in or outside of the area but the linesman seemed adamant which doesn't guarantee he was accurate (but I don't care really ).

Good performance by Oxford today. Swindon didn't look up to the match at all and didn't keep their heads. Maguire was class and loved him winding up their fans! I thought the ref had a mixed game very inconsistent at times, was it in the box yet to see highlights. Starting to look good and my prediction of 6th place finish may come close at the end of the season as we have a very good squad of players.

Not surprised Maguire was winding up the Swindon fans, he had a habit of doing that with us.

Maguire is a quality player though. Real big game man and very glad to have him in the yellow shirt.

How are those grapes? A bit sour?

Read my post from around an hour ago Eric. I wished you and your fellow yellows a lovely evening. Hopefully I can lose and win without coming across as being a prize plum. As someone educated on the Cowley Road I hate losing to Oxford but it's not the end of the world, there are more important things to worry about.

From the highlights it was a penalty and a lucky goal but 0 points is 0 points.

My bum grapes are a bit sore.

Was a good day out, spoiled only by the football.

Yeah he did a good job for us in the Championship and was surprised when he dropped down to League Two last season, out of interest where does he play for you? We used him on the right side of midfield but he's always fancied himself as a striker.

We have played him wide right in some games, but although not being slow, he's also not particularly quick. In other games we've played him off the front man (or men, if we have two up top) and he picks little pockets of space and is so good at keeping possession. Great penalty taker, nerves of steel to go with a good delivery too. I don't know if you knew this, but he's never missed, or had saved, a penalty in his entire career, he has a 100% success rate.

Wow. Well, to try and post something sensible...

Surely I am not exaggerating when I say that I have never seen a game of football where everything went so spectacularly well for one of the teams?

We deserved our win. We didn't just show more commitment than Swindon, we were a better football team and we created more chances. Perhaps around the 5-10 minute mark Swindon kept the ball a bit and pushed us back. Otherwise we were in control.

But the breaks we got. Sweet Lord. A penalty on the edge of the box, that hilarious second goal, the two red cards, Maguire winding them up, Vigoroux outdoing his own ridiculous standards. An Oxford supporter couldn't have asked for more from today.

The Sky highlights show how crucial Maguire was today. Lundstram too, looking so committed and bossing the midfield. I hope he carries that on. Rothwell also showing the potential we were told he had. They're my stand outs, and Eastwood made a smart save when called upon.

I've been quite open about my concerns for OUFC this year. Last season was the most enjoyable one I've had with this club and we were fairly ruthless in our rebuilding efforts. Now though, it really does seem to be coming together. Bring back Hall, Nelson and Ribeiro and this 4-2-3-1 system could give us a very nice squad for our first year in L1.

As for Swindon. Wow. Didnt seem prepared for the game, went to pieces in the second half. I said earlier in this thread, Vigoroux an absolute liability. I'd think a couple of calmer heads in your dressing room will be pretty angry with him!

That's enough from me. Swindon on here seem to have taken it relatively well. Atmosphere was good but relatively free from malice, which is good. Won't be drawn into saying anything nicer about them. It's a massive shame that we have to play each other in that shitty trophy- because this was top class today.

You played the derby as a derby was supposed to be played, we played it as any old league game where we thought we could turn up and pass the ball around at our own pace and control the tempo like we do in many games. Was never going to happen and left us as sitting ducks. Was really infuriating to watch from a Swindon point of view as you could see what was going to happen pretty much straight from kick off with us getting caught in possession in our own half an you pressing us into mistakes. This is where we need to be more streetwise and change our approach. Was one of those performances you knew we were likely to put in but hoped we'd worked on how to approach this particular game a little differently.

Didn't think the quality from either side was great by the way. Maguire and Johnson caused us problems all game out wide though.

Ah well. Roll on Feb 5th.

If you look on every thread that relates to a match where we didn't lose, you'll see a comment like this. It's more an observation than a dig, cuz I said something similar after we lost to Bristol Rovers. But we are getting to the point now where we should start to draw conclusions from this. I suggest one of:
  • As a promoted team, people are underestimating us and surprised not to be able to do whatever they want in a game
  • We are a tough team and we are forcing our style on to games, at home at least
  • We have simply been lucky to host superpowers in Swindon, Rochdale, Chesterfield and Peterborough on days when they have been slightly below their brilliant best. Our luck will run out, and we will end the season with 10 points
  • Teams in L1 aren't as good as they think they are and we are capable of grinding out points some times
No idea which is right though

I would add to the above that we are an improving team, still working out what League 1 is about, and yet to really turn it on as we know we can.

That tells me that once we do click we will be one of the better teams in this league. We are currently beating teams without playing as well as we can, so a good season beckons.

A further question for the Swindon fans. Is it true that you paid £400,000 for that clown of a goalkeeper? The bloke has the kind of mental stability that makes me look like a Buddhist monk!

As with all things Power, nobody is sure what he paid. I very much doubt it was £400,000. Even if he turns out to be the best keeper in L1 there is a ceiling price for keepers in the lower leagues.

He's had a habit this season of winding up opposition fans - Coventry and Rovers - don't know why.

He is, though, a very good keeper despite what impression you got.

I do wonder if we'd be better off taking no fans to your triangle.

I went to most games at the Manor - don't remember being the only one there. The Cuckoo was always pretty rammed.

To be fair Vigoroux does come across as a bit of a clown but he's a bloody good keeper. Handles crosses well, great reflexes and shot stopper as well. Requires work with the ball at his feet and his temperament but I think he could go on to have a very good career.

Yesterday he was very unlucky to have that kick charged down for the goal, have to give Maguire credit for the desire to block it. I think the sending off was stupid, yes the striker went in dangerously but you can't react like that, especially in the 94th minute. Nothing at all to gain from it at all.

Our young keeper Henry now gets a chance, he did brilliantly last season but is only 18 and so it will be a big test for him.

Don't get me wrong, he's clearly a good talent. He nearly made a top class penalty save and he handled the more speculative shots superbly, but I'm always delighted to see him walking towards our East Stand because he gets riled up so easily.

Both games, when the crowd has been on his back and you've been losing, he has lost his cool. He berates your team, he demands the ball (calls for it to be thrown back to him from the half way line) and he never looked comfortable when we charged him down.

A comedy second goal yesterday, he spilled the header from Roofe that was right at him, and he managed to get sent off for being kicked in the face. Talent or no, the goalkeeper is the one position where I'd want someone to be able to control themselves.

Had the game not gone so well for us, his antics would have served to wind us up a bit more, and that's clearly to your disadvantage if your team struggles in big games.

If 11,000 Oxford fans can do that to him, he has absolutely no chance in (say) the Premiership.

Genuine question. Where will your extra 3000 fans from yesterday disappear to at your next home game?

It happens every time we play you. We never sell out at home for the simple reason we haven't got 3000 extra fans who only want to see Oxford.

It's very strange.

That was from about 1979/1980. Before that it was unsegregated or you had to take your chance in the London Road end. In those days Swindon never travelled to Oxford.
