Felt we were the better side in the first 45, while Lincoln were pretty one-dimensional (long ball to Rhead + flick on/control).

Second half saw the tide turn, our midfield disappeared and Lincoln built more and more pressure (granted the referee seemed to make some decisions that really favoured them). Still, to get to 93 minutes, have a corner, get countered and concede, is pretty gutting.

Lincoln will be up there I imagine, while we look a mid-table outfit this time out, which I'll take after last season's horror show.

Don't think we were overly long ball to be honest. We could easily have had a couple of extra penalties as well. As I said at HT would have taken a point, we probably just about deserved it with the late pressure in the last 20 mins. How bad were our set pieces though? The conditions were dealt better with by Torquay over us but if you can play averagely away from home and still win is a very good trait.

Our set piece deliveries have been generally shocking all season.

That's also 4 of our 8 conceded from set pieces, which is a slight concern. Perhaps to be expected, though, because we're not a particularly tall side.

Just back, in a different coach as first one broke down at Stafford services on the way up :D
Least we got there in time. Dominant for long spells but as has been said still liable to fuck about and present chances. First goal didn't get a great view of but looked like Chester's keeper should have done better. Carter took the second well as did Durrell for Chester. He got a very tidy cross in under pressure from just by us first half, can see why he's rated.
Noble class for us again and no-one poor, though Keanu does tend to do good work then make a bad decision IMO.

I swear every Rhead headed goal is the exact same. Always a floated/lofted ball up to the back-post, he'll barely jump for it, defender caught under the ball and he plants it right back into the other corner.

Rolls off the tongue! He's still a class act is Whitaker.

Is he unplayable against everyone else or just us? Hate playing your lot because of him.

Apart from the penalties though of course

Who cares? As much as everyone (bar maybe FGR) in this division hates to admit it, they'd kill to have him. Absolute top lad as well telling the Torquay fans how many he'd scored, great service to the public.

Rhead is certainly a character, i can see why opposition fans don't like him, fast becoming a cult hero at SB. Thank god he didn't go to Barrow.

What have we ever done to hurt you??

What you did again today, and keep on doing :-(
I loved it when we were SMASHING Macc out of The Trophy back in about 1894 but ever since then it's been a repetitive pain in the bottom whenever we play at yours.

I remember not so long ago when we were about 5-0 down at half time at your place, now that's a real pain!!

I agree. Would be really hard to replace those 140 goals.

If one of our strikers gets injured or sold, like Margetts, I expect the Cowleys to replace them with decent quality. Wouldn't cost bazillions either!!!!!

Didn't rate Moore today, came across as really ungainly. He also sulked his way through it. Tubbs is pretty much just a mercenary, no surprise he is where he is I suppose.

Some fascinating matches today, non more so than at the EBB where I really fancy the Shots, to de-rail, albeit temporarily the Rovers relentless march to the top.
Now Eastleigh are off and running can also see them recording the biggest score of the day against NF, the worse National side I have seen in many a year, and have a sneaky leaning towards FGR coming unstuck, if not beaten at Chester.

Bottom line is that perhaps it's not a weekend for the fixed odds coupons?

Equally fascinating for us. perhaps even more so than the result, is the team selection at Southport. The 'Agatha Christie' style mystery surrounding will he wont he play Miller and Moore, a conundrum that has riled even the biggest of club sycophants, has become almost as intriguing and probably harder to predict than the result. My view is he will play them both, but in doing so compound our frustration further by playing the former as a winger and have him spending as much time in Southport's half as he does ours, (and to ensure nepotism rules and his son keeps his place who knows, even have Moore as the other wing? :told:) which all in all would then turn a more than winnable ninety minutes into a draw if we're bloody lucky:ffs:

He most certainly has something about him...probably18 stone to start with!!!

Can't deny the man has a very deft touch, and strength wise, surely the equal of Parkin but was staggered watching last night, especially as one assumes his primary role is to bring others into the game, why Marriot does not play a lot closer to him. The lad for all his trickery simply doesn't look like a natural goalscorer at all, more a left winger in the making. One player I did think was head and shoulders above everyone yesterday, Amold, really looked quality

Our performance in horrid weather was okay yesterday, the three points though were extremely welcomed, but that was because of the debut of Moore who definitely brought some much needed calmness to proceedings and the return of Miller, who as predicted last week, Kinnear then slapped straight out on the wing as he did this time last year.. But for 45 minutes both were very influential and the latter was almost running riot in that period. Then he took him off after the hour, and no none of of the forty that went had any plausible explanation (except that her did that last year every time he put him out on the wing) and for the remainder of the match, Southport had us, if not on the rack, in trouble, and no-one could have argued if the match had ended all square

I know the Southport form is not good, but I can't believe yet another manager gets sacked after losing to us, its almost as though we have become the 'dire' benchmark that managers are measured against. You can almost hear chairman saying if you can't beat little Dover what chance have we got of beating bigger teams, you're fired!

Outrageous, are we really that bad. Accept we will never be known as the Harlem Globetrotters of the Conference, but give us some credit

Always see Lincoln fans saying "not bad for fat useless lump" but have never actually seen anyone say he's a fat useless lump.

If you don't think Marriott is a natural goal scorer I would suggest you look at all 3 of the goals he has scored this season, all of them excellent finishes.

There has been plenty, Barrow fans weren't keen for instance when they were linked to him. People just love to hate him, he is a definite thorn in any opposition sides. Looks well on his way to 20+ goals again this season.

To me he looks even better than last season where he got 23, in terms of his hold-up play and finding the ideal positions in the box. He has to aim for 30 if he can stay fit and with the better service.

Marriott didn't have one of his better games yesterday, but then neither did Raggett, Wood or Woodyard. We were poor yet still found a way. Doesn't bode well for the rest of the division.

I once saw Tony Adams run sixty yards and hit a half volley from outside the area, into the North Bank end but it hardly suggests they were going to utilise him as a forward if Ian Wright got injured does it.
You will know a lot more than me, and I know the lad has had a few injuries but from memory only, the only time he has scored goals with regularity was in the Southern League. How many did he score last season for example?
Look, tis but an opinion, but read what I said, because my comments were based on watching last night, where equally after similar observation I could suggest Rhead is hardly a sprinter, might be right, but none the less is still only an opinion. Hope the lads get 20 goals as long as none of them against us!!
