Yes, because he was/is.
A Lamborghini is expensive, just because someone ridiculously hikes up the price of a second hand Cortina doesn't make it less so.

How much do we think United/other would have ended up paying for Pogba had he moved this summer rather than last?

Over £120m, I reckon.

If he'd had a season like his last at Juve, yeah. If Utd were to sell him this summer I'm not sure he'd outdo Mbappe in the silly money stakes though.

Transfer fees are all relative though, we got one of the best players in the world, years off his prime for less than double the prices being quoted for a journeyman winger turning 28,an average midfield clogger, a Right back with questions against him defensively again with realistically only one contract of his prime left, and a player already deemed not good enough for Spurs whose main attribute is being good at free kicks.

1 million is already a crazy amount of money for a footballer once we got past that point it's all relative value and the market this year makes a
Pogba look like the bargain of the century.

Potentially. If last season were the first anyone had ever seen of him you wouldn't think he's as special as his price tag suggested. You never know, that could have been the best season he'll have in a Utd shirt. Though all signs go against that.

50M for not even the best English defender that I've seen, called Walker.

I seem to say it every year now, but anyway, football has gone mad.

Sigurddson I think?

I thought he was on about a current Tottenham player.

Gylfi is great when he's got the ball but his overall game and work rate weren't up to much. Great at getting into good positions in the final third and good vision but compared to Eriksen he's lacking.

£50m for him is ridiculous but he was probably worth that to Swansea last season.

It really does not.

It's all a load of fucking awful bollocks, but £50m for Gylfi Sigurdsson specifically must be football's shark-jump moment.

Scruff going from 'United spending billions since Fergie left' critic to claiming Pogba was a bargain. The transformation is almost complete.

Kyle Walker. At least Gylfi can actually kick a ball.

Surprised it has taken Gylfi this long to get a big move. His second year at Hoffenheim and time at Spurs really stalled his career.

Not sure exactly how he fits in at Everton though, unless Barkley is off.

We'll take the £1.5m+ development fee though. Not bad for a player we haven't had for 7 years now.

Covered more ground than any player in the league last season.

Its no bigger than his move to Spurs.

Anyway it looks like we're leaving it to Everton now as Gylf seems to be interested in a move to Merseyside. I wouldn't mind throwing 20mill their way for Barkley though once it's done. Gotta be an upgrade on Okazaki. At Spurs (an apparent suitor) he's only going to be a bench warmer.

I have it on good authority that Gylfi has an allergy to PREMIER LEAGUE WINNERS MEDALS which our players are required to wear during all training sessions or be subject to a heavy fine. It was in his best interests to go to Everton for health reasons.

I'll flog that shit for eternity. Like Liverpool fans.
